I don't care what all these articles say. Whether he was medicating physical pain or a mental one, this will not change anything. I will always love the man and will miss him.

You've probably all read the article on Daily Mail today. Whether or not "Doctor D" is for real, if what he says about Prince suffering from extreme social phobia and stage fright are true, it just makes me feel more like a kindred spirit with Prince. We already share so much starting with musical talent and starting out at a very early age to being extremely shy to the point of phobia when it comes to meeting people.

To me it doesn't really matter what happened. It just makes me sad that clearly he was a lonely person who needed help and did not get it. I wish I would have had the honour to meet him. I wish he was still here. I wish people would have a heart and not judge him for his actions. I'm glad this is one of the places where he is simply loved.

oh bluey, so much love in these words. he gave us all so much. more than music, much more. he lived his life with his 'family' as he rather called them cause he thought fans has too much to do with fanatic.

same as you, I wish, I just wish... he would have not been alone (unless he wished to be) and that he did at least not suffer or was scared (which is even more important). and I wished so much he would have had a love in his life, taking care of all that beautiful soul of his and returning his love he had inside to give.

oh prince sad *sigh*

I honestly just wanted to know because it's safe to say, the globe, the enquirer, some of those brit rags aren't reputable enough to take seriously. so if something came from them, i'd just write it off without further proof.

Yep, exactly. I agree with you absolutely because of those reasons. nod

The thing with the enquirer, they have been sued so many times for millions...they no longer print things they do not have proof of. I tend to take their word over CNN. If there is no lawsuit....by the person referred to in the article and no one claims or denies...it is usually the truth. Crazy, but think about it.

This is heartbreaking. The description of his clothing was the same as what he was photographed in the night before he died. I hope he fell asleep fast too.. sad

I know I can't bear the idea of how he passed and try to convince myself it was peaceful. Still he deserved a much better ending. My heart is very heavy imagining his struggle. ๐Ÿ’œPrince๐Ÿ’œ I hope he knew and felt the love and respect so many of us had for him. I wish he was still here!

I am a nurse, and I administer Fentanyl quite a bit. We give it IV for pain control. So sad that he seemed to be suffering alone. We do not deal with the patches, so I do not know if they are time controlled release or not. However, he is gone and it is just too hard to imagine. bheart

The patches are time released. So it's true then eh? Prince died of an overdose. Drugs he shouldn't have been taking, which is also illegal!

So what?

And the only thing you can say for certain at the moment is that he died of an accidental overdose. We don't know whether he was prescribbed the drugs or not. And, it doesn't matter either way.

I am a physician.

Fentanyl is used to treat patients with cancer who are on their death bed. The real question is why was Prince being prescribed Fentanyl. It's not a medication used to treat persistent pain after hip surgery.

I have a family member who I believe is addicted to fentanyl or some other synthetic opioid. She denies, denies, denies, lies, lies and lies. And there's a wall around her protecting her secret world. It's impenetratable. You can't reach someone who will not allow you to get close. I think that's why I'm so affected by this. I'm so scared my family member is going to be found dead one day.

I know this fear, I lived it too sad I made a promise to myself that I would do all I could so that if the worst was to happen I would be without regret, and things I wished I had done or said. For yourself, please do this. Tell them, calmly and honestly and with compassion. Know that the reason for the lies, denial and anger is because that's how they're feeling towards themselves but it's easier to direct that at you. Love them anyway. Make it clear that despite all attempts to push you away there is no judgement or shame, and you'll be there when they are ready (if this is what you want) Email or letter is best to start the conversation, avoid conflict, and allow them the opportunity to actually hear you rather than fly into defensive mode.

I won't lie, I did all of these things and it didn't change the outcome. My brother still died. I miss him terribly but I feel no guilt as there was nothing more I could have done. He knew that then and he still does now. I hope things work out differently for you and your family.

Ctron, thank you so much for this. Truly. I am so sorry for your loss. cry bheart

Once you reach a chronic pain level that requires percocet or Fentynal, it is very easy to O.D. Especially if you only weigh 112 pounds, and work as hard as he did.
I have been on both, and there's days you think "one more pill won't hurt", or "maybe one extra dose will make the pain go away". That one extra dose could be the difference between being conscious and unconscious, or having a heartbeat and having your heart stop. These drugs are very strong, but sometimes, even those drugs can't dull the pain. You just want to feel better, and your mind isn't functioning well. So your judgment is clouded, and you take those extra pills.
This situation is terrible. Prince... that strong and powerful performer, was in so much pain and, in reality, made him weak. He pushed as hard as he could to give us his music and his performances. He may have come across like a jerk at times, but he truly did love his fans.
I know it was accidental, but it was his love for music and his fans that created this tragedy. Kinda gives "I would Die 4 U" a whole new meaning... RIP Prince

I disagree, especially about the his love for music and his fans created this tragedy! That's like blaming his fans partly for his death, now, I can't speak for every fan, but speaking one of them, I don't want that blame placed on me. There are many unanswered questions about this matter that needs to be answered, like why if Prince had supposedly overdosed just a couple of days ago, knowing this, why wasn't there more precautions placed around him, to prevent something like this from happening again? And yes, Prince may have loved his fans, but he was also rude to them at times, and even had them questioning if he cared about them. I can recall countless threads about him not caring about his fans on this board and elsewhere, so I don't like the blame.....just saying.

Prince overdosing does not mean he is a "druggie", it means he hs an illness due to the politics of the pharmaceutical world. Painkillers are lethal as they are, and more needs to go with ensuring the safety of its user. They are easy to get addicted to and easy to ur for self-medication. I know we see our Princey as the never ending face of purple youth, but we also must remember to see him as the older man he's grown to be, at 57. While still young, he's not who he used to be. A lot of those stunts and dances like Sheila E. Stated that he did for all of those years eventually had to take toll. (Surgery or no surgery) I also wouldn't rule out arthritis and so forth. It will always be a mystery until someone shares the ins of his personal life. There are many factors, RIP Prince. It hurts so bad to just know he could not have gotten the help he deserved or needed. He was a great human being and unfortunately succumbed to a painful end. Let's all just commemorate together for his sake.

There is no where in my post that blamed his fans. I simply said it was his love for music, and his fans... HIS love. That's not blaming us at all. It's not our fault that he had this passion. And I acknowledged that he was a jerk at times, but in the end, he did love his fans.

I am inclined to believe that as far as the manner and cause of death, what the ME has provided is all that will be released and should be released.

Like many others, the OD does not have an impact on my feelings/thoughts on Prince. Nor does it diminish the music or his legacy. I think people, including me at times, have forgotten that Prince was a normal human and had fallacies. I am not here to judge him or second guess his actions. While I am surprised and dumbfounded that Prince has passed, I do not live in could of would of. It will drive a person insane. His death does seem untimely, but in my opinion, when it is your time, it is your time.

Also, I do not believe we, the general public are entitled to know Prince's health history. If he was gravely ill, or terminal, it does break my heart. But, Prince was a grown man and made his decision. As private as he was, I am sure those close to him did not know everything. With that said, I am in no way saying he was an addict or speculating. I have the posts here and my heart goes to the family's and loved ones who have endured the addiction of pain killers.

It is sad that Prince has passed. I am with you. The world does seem a little out of balance. But, we have his genius through is music and art. With that, we can find comfort and know that part of Prince and his creativity is always here.

I think now that the only new information will be what ever comes from the police investigation. That will only reveal how and who, in my opinion.

In the end, why he died doesn't change my perception of Prince or my love for the man. It doesn't change the fact that earth benefitted from his presence here and that benefit was culled from many aspects of his humanhood, not just his music. But got damn is it hard to not be curious about why he left us prematurely.

Totally agree.

I too don't feel like we got a real result here - just a basic detail.

To me, it isn't a proper answer. And probably the family or even Prince himself don't want people to know ....otherwise, why not state plainly why he was on these medications.

Something is being hidden.

Nothing is "being hidden"!! How many people have to say that he was self-medicating because of hip pain before you hear it?!? The pain of a joint being "bone on bone" is EXCRUTIATING!!!!!

How could those close to him not know about his drug use, even after being with him on a plane where he supposedly overdosed once before? The same man that many of those that around him, claimed that he was just a clean living vegan, that they never ever saw do drugs, but now here we are getting a report that he died of an accidental drug overdose? Makes no sense at all! So Prince was not only fooling himself, but those close to him and everyone else, all this time by pretending to be a man that never touched drugs, only to be living another life of drugs in secrecy? That's the image being put out there now.

I assume people mean they didnt see him using the usual rock star drugs like coke, weed and booze etc.

If he was seen taking pills people might just see it as being his regular meds or vitamins.

However it would seem that people close to him over the last few years or however long must have recognised he had an addiction to pills, especially after the save shot incident.

From what we have heard and what Sheila said its apparent he had pain issues...hips, knees, so its feasible he was on painmeds and not unusual for people who begin using pain meds to become addicted to them. So he was possibly addicted or overmedicating as a result of starting pills for pain management.

As stated what is unclear is why he was on that particuliar medication if it is not typically given for hip, knee or arthritic pain.

If he had some other illness going on would we hear about that in the report or we only would hear about cod ?

Of course whatever the circumstances are, it doesnt change anything about how I see Prince, he was afterall human although probably a much more driven and gifted one than many of us.

GOD Bless his soul and may he Rest in Peace,

ThankYou Prince for All the Beautiful Music and All the Happyness You and Your art have given this thing called life. We will Always Remember You.

Something is being hidden.

Nothing is being hidden. There is still an ongoing police investigation. As the chief deputy of carver county said this reported cause of death is only one piece of the puzzle. A lot of the questions some people so desperately need will be answered.
I don't think his family knows any more than we do. They weren't that close to him. He obviously did a very good job at hiding his struggle until the last few years I'm guessing. But even he couldn't hide it anymore from his inner circle as they were desperately seeking help at the time of his death.
It does sort of explain some things - his extreme privacy, failed relationships, over-the-top antics while performing, erratic behavior towards fans - he seemed to equally loathe and adore them - the media's lack of access, his absence basically from MN and the US for some amount of time. Almost like he was trying to hide or run away from something.
It's totally understandable how this could happen. Whether he used drugs to ease mental or physical pain the man obviously had ample amounts of both he struggled with. I don't hold it against him. Takes nothing away from the things he did with his time here which was sadly cut short. I wish he would have found peace and conquered his demons before he left. I wish he would have had a happy ending. He was great tho. One of a kind. The very best at what he did. Uncomparable. Tragically gone too soon ๐Ÿ’œ It's still hard to believe just like that he's really gone forever.

It's a hurtful place, the world, in and of itself. We don't need to add to it. We all need one another. ~ PRN

Totally agree. I had jst gotten over his death in these last couple of weeks ...and now feel agitation over it once more. I too don't feel like we got a real result here - just a basic detail. The real question is why he was on these pills and this reason was not given. To me, it isn't a proper answer. And probably the family or even Prince himself don't want people to know ....otherwise, why not state plainly why he was on these medications. Something is being hidden.
Nothing is being hidden. There is still an ongoing police investigation. As the chief deputy of carver county said this reported cause of death is only one piece of the puzzle. A lot of the questions some people so desperately need will be answered. I don't think his family knows any more than we do. They weren't that close to him.
