I know what you are getting at (others here seem not to), but I assure you that my original post is not a joke. Read my second post on this thread and you will see I wrote:

"Everything was in sync -- his talents, his contributions from band members, his passion, his ambition..."

Note the italics.

But you open with mentioning this was the last great song Prince wrote. You even word it like this twice. It now appears you know he didn't write it.

The word 'contribution' here applies to Prince, not his band members, since the bulk of the song belongs to Wendy and Lisa. It's a W & L song with some changes by P, something that's not very hard to believe if you listen to their albums. I believe some people think the credit even now is a little unfair on the girls.

Taste and trolling aside, it's plainly not the last great song Prince wrote for the reasons stated.

Mountains is a great song, but it isn't even the best song on Parade. Try again.

No. I'm pretty hard on Prince's later output, but I think songs like The Breakdown and Black Sweat were pretty great. I don't really get the point of posting such a definitive statement on something so subjective. What do you hope to achieve with this thread? lol

Such a closed, blunt, statement. "I think", "I consider" or even "In my opinion" at the beginning of the thread title might have helped. A bit.

If you like Mountains that much, rock on! More power to you. It IS a great song. But he wrote many other great songs after that, right up until Hit N Run Phase Two.

Just curious, why? You actually want me banned because I feel "Mountains" is the last truly great song in Prince's catalogue? Well, write out what your favorite Prince song may be. But remember if we don't agree with your choice, according to your rules, you should be banned.

.

Wow, banned because my favorite song isn't the same as your favorite song. Unreal.

I happen to feel otherwise. I feel "Mountains" was his last most perfect tune. I don't hear anything on "Hit N Run" that is better. Why that bothers people I don't understand.

.

Every artist has a final great song. I ask the people here, do you really think that final great song is the last song on the last album? No, more than likely it is a tune that was at the beginning or middle stages of their careers. Look at The Rolling Stones. Anyone here think a song of theirs from, say, 1985-2016 is better than "Satisfaction" from 1965?

.

Why can't I feel "Satisfaction" was the Stones greatest moment? Why can't I feel "Mountains" was Prince at the peak of his powers? You have your favorite Prince tunes, I have mine. Wow, that's a tough concept to grasp, huh?

Please, please, please can somebody explain to me what you like so much about this song? Lyrics, beat, guitars, vocals, arrangement, what is it?

.

It shows a performer at his most confident. Prince knew he was it at that point and he unleashes a perfect hard driving song to confirm that. At the peak of his powers, and he knew it. That comes through loud and clear on the recording. Listen to how Prince leads his band - "Guitars and drums on the one." It was a whole vibe of complete control. Beatles had that in '66 and '67. Prince had it on "Mountains."

But what you're missing is the fact Prince was in complete control anytime he got on stage.

His call out for "Guitars and drums on the one" is something taken from his live shows. He had countless verbal and non-verbal signals for his bands.

So when you claim the song has "a vibe of complete control" - you say it as if this is the ONLY example. When in fact he did this kind of thing on stage every night for over 30 years (both at his concerts and then again at the after-shows). As far as The Beatles only managing to "have it" for two years - those are your words not mine.

Folks, nothing wrong with having a Prince song that you like that isn't on "Purple Rain" or "Sign O The Times" or "Hit N Run: Phase 2."

But what you are missing is this was on a record you buy in a store and play on your turntable...not on stage. That song "Mountains," as I said earlier, was a command performance. It wasn't on stage, it was over my radio, on my turntable, through my CD player. It was a man at the peak of his powers.

You weren't saying it's a Prince song you like or even that it is your favorite. You made a definitive statement that Mountains was his LAST GREAT SONG. That's a ridiculous statement, especially on the org. You're trolling, and if you're not, you chose your words poorly. This is the reaction you expected and wanted, no?

Don't hate your neighbors. Hate the media that tells you to hate your neighbors.
