That's the thing. People's feelings about the album are ILLEGITIMATE when the album wasn't meant to please you in the first place. Your feelings are hurt by lyrics? Fine, get over it. You have no right to try and act like Prince needed to seek your approval and kowtow to your feelings over TRC. He wrote what he liked and what he believed. If you don't like that, then it sucks for you. But, when we're talking about your opinion of someone's art - especially if it's negative, then yes, the opinion is irrelevant and right to be dismissed.

I'm sorry but that was just a bunch of nonsense you just spouted right there. Everyone's opinion on art is legitimate whether positive or negative. Technically, it's all subjective to a degree.

However, the idea that people's feelings about the album are illegitimate is something I don't think even Prince would have agreed with. You are obviously too young and uninformed to remember that he organized listening and discussion events with fans at PP for this specific album. LOL

The more that's elaborated on these listening events and discussions, it becomes clear that he was less interested in whether or not peoples' feelings were hurt about the album and more interested in converting those in attendance to his line of thought whether they felt uncomfortable about it or not. Sounds more like "educational" events where he tried to set people straight than him trying to take into consideration what was thought about the album, especially considering that Larry was with him. That itself at least hints that he felt negativity directed toward the album was illegitimate/unfounded.

But, whatever.

Thanks, for understanding, though to @thx185.

There is nothing to reconcile. The Rainbow Children album reconciles itself.

TRC=the lost tribes of Israel who traveled to west africa from northen africa (Ethiopia) The same were sold/ "banished" to The West. African chiefs dealt with off shore European traders, traded "foreigners" for various products brought to africa on their ships. These same are still wandering around west africa today (i.e.the fulani tribe) and spread through out the western hemisphere. Most black Americans if they did mitochondria dna testing will find their dna contains fulani dna. The entire album is a story about the exile and return of the lost tribes of Isr. Family Name? Why white folks so mad at black folks at least you still have your family name. Not only do black Americans not know their family name they don't even know who they are or their history past american slavery. The Creator (who created all the colors of the rainbow from white light) chose these people for a covenant, which has yet to be kept ("the covenant will be kept this time").

Wow, after all these years, you're the first person I've found here who was actually in the room.

I was the one who challenged him on the topic of him not liking people covering his songs, referencing the 4 covers on Emancipation, and the fact that the first single was a cover. "It's okay when YOU do it?" lol I'm glad I didn't get kicked out.

Whoa. You asked him THAT?!? Good lord. You got nerves of steel, man! Hahaha.

LOVE IT. It was a very his personal & daring statement to himself - even if he was preach, as contradicting as this may sound - whatever he believed in didn't take away from the feeling that the album sounded like it was recorded for himself first & foremost. I wish he continued in the same vein, I'm pretty sure the transition would've been as interesting if not more.
