I did. Almost broke down during the Purple Rain performance. Real fun night, though, and the whole theater was having a good time.

Going to Wednesday. A small community theatre in Auckland is having two showings.

They're not even charging.

I wasn't born yet when PR came out so I got to see it in theaters recently for the first time. I saw it three times last week and then I saw it a fourth time at the park (they showed a free screening here at "Fort Greene Park" in Brooklyn).

Each time I saw it was amazing. The first two times I saw it in the theater was so great. Everyone sang and danced along. The audience applauded almost every time Prince was on screen and there was thunderous applause each time he performed. They showed Prince so much love.

The free screening I went to in the park was also great. Everyone was wearing their Prince thirts and really into the film. We all stood out there in damp, chilly 40 something degree weather on a fri night. Toward the end of the film it started rain (yes it rained when P sang "Purple Rain") but most of us stayed to the end.

I've had so much fun seeing it in theaters. I can only imagine the excitement surrounding the film when it was originally released but I'm glad I got to see it on the big screen.

Great experience. I haven't had this much fun at the movies in years.

My wife and I took our two teenagers last night. The plan was to see Batman vs. Superman, but when my 13 year old daughter saw Purple Rain on the theater board, the begging began. They've seen PR a million times on DVD, but never on the big screen. Unfortunately there were only 9 people in the theater (including the four of us), but the kids really dug it. My daughter cried. sad

I was going to go...but I just couldn't. The last time I saw Purple Rain on the big screen was in 1986 but I just couldn't go and watch it in 2016 knowing he was gone...

saw it on the big screen for the first time last Thursday. great to see it the way it was meant to be seen, but also sad that it took this unfortunate event to get to see the movie at a theater. still such a strong movie, morris' comedy & appollonia's spontaneous acting were highlights for me this time around, next to the songs.

.

It saddens me to say that only 45 people turned up (I counted them since I was so disappointed with the lack of visitors) in a room that can hold about 250 I'd say. I'm in a non English speaking country, maybe that accounts for the low numbers. Also one of the main tv stations had shown PR on TV the day before as a tribute, so there's that.

.

I was going to see PR again today but instead I stayed home and listened to 'Small Club' twice.

Actually, Purple Rain has been lurking at midnight cult movie theaters over the decades along with the Rocky Horror Picture Show and David Bowie's Labyrinth, among others...

My mom was pregnant with me when she started listening to prince. I always joke to everyone I was born a prince fan. So growing up PR was a big part of me, I used to watch it alot. It only seemed right to finally see it on the bigscreen. So, she took the day off and we went together. She cried in the begining and I cried when Purple rain came on, I always do, I was lucky enough to see him in chicago during his "welcome 2 chicago" concert and I balled my eyes out.

I wanted to but I know I won't make it through without an ugly cry in the movie theater. Him singing Purple Rain, Him kissing Wendy on the cheek the last frame of him looking back at the audience with the light emanating from his head...nope.

Me!! I saw it last Friday in a packed cinema. I'd never been a massive fan of it on the small screen but on the big screen it blew my mind! The whole night was phenomenal. People were screaming and cheering and clapping and singing, I felt it was a really beautiful celebration of him. I thought I might cry but interestingly I didn't. I did well up a couple of times but I had a massive smile on my face the whole time. It was joyous. Afterwards we went out because we were so pumped from the movie and we danced for hours and hours... I haven't danced like that for years. Am amazing night filled with love and a beautiful purple community. I'm definitely going again 😍

So glad to hear that people who are seeing it on the big screen for the first time are having this experience. That's how it felt in 1984... cool prince

Nobody found it a bit interesting that he died on Thursday and the movie was in theaters by Friday?

I saw the movie for the first time ever the following Sunday (so last week). The reason I was holding out on seeing it was because I was hoping Cinespia would do another presentation of it at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery, I've been emailing them for months about doing it. I got a newsletter on the Monday after he died (so the day after I saw Purple Rain for the first time) and I saw that it was added to the schedule for this summer. I bought a ticket immediately and expected to get another one once I get closer to the date and find out who wants to go but the tickets sold out within hours

I did it was great the theater was sold out and I sat by a guy and we were singing all the songs throughout the whole movie funny thing was we both wore purple too for Prince. At the end of Prince singing Purple Rain everyone in the theater clapped I teared up . I even took pictures of these really cool older women who also wore purple for Prince and wanted pictures after they saw the movie with each other it was cute. Now I own the movie and saw it tons of times but was too young to see it in theaters when it came out , so I had to go and have the experience .

"Computer Blue" with the AMC Star movie theater sound system was beyond awesome. The bass groove of the song, volume and sound I could feel 10 feet away from where I was sitting. I saw "Purple Rain" twice today and when I went, there was no one else there. I geeked out by grooving to the music and visuals on the screen. Seeing Prince on the big screen was very special and I envisioned what it had to be like during 1984 when this movie was all the rage.

I was going to go see it in Manchester at one of the indie cinemas that was showing it but I decided not to because it royally pissed me off that they only saw fit to show it now- after his death. They had plenty of opportunities to show it in previous years (2014 anyone? The 30th ani) but I saw fuck all of any kind of tribute to him then. So I refused to contribute to the people cashing in on his death as they do whenever any big artist dies. All I can say is cudos to those cinemas that did show his films on the big screen when he was alive. Most of them were in America probably.

Me! I was 12 in 1984 and my God fearing parents forbid me to see the movie back then. So when I read that my local cinema was showing Purple Rain I bought tickets and took my 16 year ol daughter for some musical and cultural education. It was great, the theater was almost full and my daughetr really liked the movie. I teared up a bit at the end shot of Prince, but it was a joyful experience overall. And everyone applauded when the movie was finieshed. Unfortunately no singing or ddancing along, but still it was great!

RIP Prince: thank U 4 a funky Time...

I'm going to see in on Thursday night with my hubby. It will be the first time on the big screen and I'm bracing for it to be pretty emotional for us.

It's going to be my way of saying goodbye.

I went and saw it in Minneapolis, last week, after paying my respects at Paisley. I had never seen it on the big screen, as I was too young when it was released, and I have to say, it looks fantastic up there! Run and catch it if you can. Such iconic performances deserve to be seen on the big screen.

I did get a little emotional here and there. I was expecting it during the final performance sequence, but even the end of The Beautiful Ones was tough, as he's laying on his back, looking lifeless.

I hope they bring back all of his movies to the big screen, so we can see them the way they were intended. The only one I ever saw in the theater was Grafitti Bridge. I would kill to see SOTT on the big screen.

Yes! I was too young when it was first released. Even though I've seen it a zillion times, I'd never seen it in the theatre until this.

We have an Alamo Drafthouse in our town & they played it the Saturday & Sunday after his death. It was fantastic and a great atmosphere - sad, sentimental, even joyful. They encouraged singing and dancing & passed out glow sticks & had special cocktails. It was a great thing and I was glad I went.

I can't make it to the early show
mad just called the theatre to see if they 100% have no tickets left for the later one or if I can just lie in the aisle or something but I guess they aren't open until later. You'd think a theatre like Lido or something would show it.

I didn't. I know I won't be able to handle it. I'd rather watch it in the privacy of my own room. For some reason I can't get the nerve to watch PR at all. I've watched Under the Cherry Moon, but idk what it is about PR that I'm just not ready to watch yet...

From now on, 4 U I shall be wild 💜
