I dig what she means, but we're all entitled to avail of the stuff that gets out there, via various sources, it's such a joy to come across previously unheard material now, we need it especially at this sad time All u haters need to recognize, if u cant c right through these lies, good gawd!

U know what people? Don't be made to feel bad or guilty by others on here or elsewhere, to hell with social conditioning or political correctness, life is too short as we have learned over the last week, enjoy and share the man's music! He knew this would happen once he died. He knew he was dying. If he didnt want it out there he would have left instructions. He was comfortable with letting go once he left this earth. In the grand scheme of things do you really think that he cares that a concert from 1987 is on the internet? His legacy now goes way beyond his music and he is watching over us in ways that are way more important than this.

This is a discussion forum, we're discussing what she said. It'd be pretty boring if we were all a bunch of automatons just automatically agreeing with everything anyone associated with Prince over the last 40 years said or commanded. You make it sound like we're calling her up on the phone and cussing her out or standing outside her house yelling or something. ¡The Future Is Ours, If You Can Count! https://www.youtube.com/w...A_zTY0qWWk

No. We're not "entitled", as much as we might enjoy it. It's out there and we can listen to it, but we're not entitled to share it on youtube, or anywhere else...

I don't think she has a problem with unreleased stuff out there. . I'll admit, I feel weird about it too.

Both Susannah and Sheila E seem a little nervous about the content of the vault. I think there are a couple of reasons: 1. They don't want the material released before it is determined if they can profit from it. Writing credits and such. 2. They are concerned about their own legacy. They might fear that some of the material puts them in a bad light. Not necessarily anything embarrasing. But if we get to hear all of the material, we might learn that some players weren't as influential as they have made themself out to be. The wooh is on the one!

I disagree with both of U. . I think it's timing. To be honest, even on the org Prince wasn't even 'cremated' yet and people are foaming at the mouth to get everything out of the Vault ASAP. I think it's a bit sad. And shows a lot of peoples true intentions. Sheila's take is different than Susannah's. Susan is just saying, wait a minute. Sheila is saying don't at all.

It raises interesting questions- does an artist, Sheila E for example, have any rights to the material in the Vault that she appears on?

I understand her, but at the same time IF people are not making anything off of it then I really don't have issues with it. I for one have most of this stuff that is NOW being posted but I finally can share it through links to others that never got the chance or never knew that Prince did this much stuff. To the general public PRINCE is Purple Rain and 1999 and performing at the Super Bowl, but they don't know the "other sides of Prince". D'angelo did "Sometimes it Snows in April" and to most fans that is a top5 fave song of all time, to the public though SOME thought that was a new song by D'angelo, or never knew it.
So I get where Sussanah is coming from, but I am more upset with. or say, take issue with those now selling off things like CD's out of print like "Chaos and Disorder" for a 100 dollars or things like that just because people now want it. How do U know she is refering to YouTube videos?
When I first started saying all the stuff coming up on Youtube, I backed away as well.

With all due respect to Susannah & Sheila, Prince didn't want me to collect bootlegs but for 29 years now I have done it anyway. So, if I wasn't going to "respect" his wishes, why would I respect theirs? Don't hate your neighbors. Hate the media that tells you to hate your neighbors.

Yeah I agree 100%. The day after I was seeing people on Facebook who never post anything about Prince already talking about how he could have an album a year for 100 years. This story and tragic event is still to fresh in so many minds of people to really even wonder about this. I mean even when all the matters are settled and something is decided I can almost BET that you are not going to see any of this "vault" stuff for quite a while, and I really HOPE and PRAY that fans, don't question WHY isn't there more releases coming or who isn't this song out or that song out now. The man is gone, respect him. Same here, and we know people are doing it. It's a mad rush right now. And people who aren't so familiar with the unreleased stuff, dont understand that they may be able to buy it in a few months (legally) and for a decent price.

I don't think that has anything to do with it. Sheila E will forever been known via 1984-1988 and she doesn't seem embarrassed about it. She's talked about being half naked, talked about when her breast was out while performing with Prince, the picture is out there. Susannah has never had a problem with nudity.

It's possible to vigorously agree or disagree with Susannah or Sheila or anyone else without sniping at each other. Let's do that. "Drop that stereo before I blow your Goddamn nuts off, asshole!"

Yes, people are accusing Sheila & Susannah of feeling possessive or arrogant. But it's them and many fans who feel possessive and entitled. The attitude of posting a lot of this stuff in a rush is like saying "Look at me, look at what I have and what you don't have" or "I deserve to have everything in there 'in the name of respecting art'. Oh please, they are just greeding. . There are fans hardcore fans who can't even listen to the released stuff right now. I force myself to. . I agree, I want the people who work to release the Vault stuff to take their time. put together some quality special cd/lp booklets with photos and words of expression and such. Quality over quantity 4 me. . Just read the thread, there are people here ANGRY that Susannah or Sheila said what they said. I'm now able to sit back and sift through the people who haven't posted in a long time-and just needed to connect with other Prince fans and mourn with us, say some words of respect/remorse. and then there is another group that I'm seeing that he wasn't even dead 24hours before they were gabbing about the Vault, when where who how

When it comes to bootlegs, I don't see how it hurts anything. I really hope that the millennial generation can see why some scoff at today's "great artists." As for the vault, what were his wishes, exactly? All I've heard him say is "someone will release it. It won't be me." I can understand there being frustration from the ones who knew him in terms of the vault. There might be some personal stuff in there. Overall, I think his friends are being understandably protective of him.

Yeah Here in NYC there is a Used CD/DVD/BOOK shop that sells tons of stuff and I go there a lot to find things that I lost or never bought from artists, and since I have all the PRINCE released stuff I basically always skip going through that section, but most of the USED stuff sells at about 4-5$ per cd, unless it's a rare one, and of course the day he died that FULL section emptied out, but now I notice that this store when someone trades in something of PRINCE or say Bowie after he died, instead of them charging 4-5$ now that USED cd is suddenly 10-15 or even more, anything to make more money. I understand where she's coming from, and I don't necessarily disagree. However, the "protecting a legacy" argument is almost invalidated by the fact that Prince didn't even have a will. If he had left detailed instructions of his intentions for releasing the vault material after his death, I'd want to respect his wishes, but since that didn't happen .... I agree it took me a few to listen to stuff, and then it took me another few days before I could even look at a "news" report, now I don't watch them at all because they are at that stage where they have decided on who PRINCE was, they are shaping the story how they want it to be to make "interesting" tv and news. SO I back off that stuff, I will try to look at those like Stevie Wonder or Van Jones or whomever, talking about the Prince that "we" knew, the guy who'd play for hours than throw a party till 6am, or the guy that would do a cd a year, or my own experiences seeing him in concert 70+ times, or going to the "new power soul" release party in NYC at the Spy bar, I mean I could go on for a days, but that is the person I miss, the person who I did not KNOW personally, but because of him, i knew myself a little more. What exactly is the point of keeping the stuff off YouTube now? So somebody else besides Prince can make money off of it?
Prince had a point and a right to keep his own stuff offline - but it doesn't mean he didn't screw the fans in the process. He wasn't perfect.

I still can't watch most of it, I avoided radio stations playing all his music, and MTV and such.
But peoples greediness for the Vault is making me sick. And people on the org are getting a bit vicious. There are many others who have been changed for the better by Prince's passing. But peoples rudeness ... yes for people who were his lovers friends bandmates people who helped Prince present the music etc I think it's arrogant.

I hear ya, and I am on both sides I can understand your point, but at the same time there are people who go and rush to find something of someone who just died, buy it and then sell it to someone who wants it bad enough because it is a business choice. I understand a $ is a $ but at times it looks like taking advantage, to me that is.
