Well, i can agree on that.

So now to pretend this never was the case and get all moral about it is ridiculous. As if most of us had stick to only the studio albums.SMH.

Besides, the "good" side with YT is at least nobody's making money off it.But i never had a problem paying bootleggers anyway. They invested lots of dedication, money and time in (mostly) beautiful artwork, mastering and manufacturing, too.

Just don't be so hypocritical, folks. That includes Susannah, too.

Boots have always been a part of why people got fascinated with Prince.

The bootlegs I know of didn't start until The Black Album

gotta say, some of the comments on this thread are disheartening to say the least. I think anyone close to him would be a bit distraught over seeing the sheer glut of stuff getting out there. TBH, to me it seems like a big middle finger to Prince's control over his music/image/IP that people here railed about while he was here. Was some stuff going to get out there? Sure. But to see the rationalizing here around what Prince may or may not have wanted, all leaning towards his somehow wanting this to happen since he left no specific instructions, are just things people are saying to make themselves feel less guilty about it. I've seen a few things taht are new to me but out of respect to Prince, I'm not actively hunting down items to add to my collection. I think Susannah is right; It's been 8 days and what he fought so long and hard for and probably thought he had some support from his closest fans, is being tossed in the wind because, well, it's out there now.

I couldn't agree more

My two pence on the youtube... It is really helping me watching all that material, tonnes of which I have never seen. We all approach grief in different ways but for me looking through this "photo album" is helping and indeed celebrating. Perhaps some of the skeptics who dismissed Prince might view some of this and so "oh man if only I had known..."

And yes we will be hearing Purple Rain and Let's Go Crazy on all types of dumb commercials now as well. I just hope they don't use his image to sell too much crap.

I hadn't thought of this yet. Luckily I time-shift EVERYTHING I watch. Haven't seen a commercial in at least 5 years. So, unless I seek one out online I'll never see it.

Somebody's still policing the internet.

There is a popular torrent site that has had a bunch of Prince uploaded this week (discographies & bootlegs primarily), but they've all been removed within a day or two of being posted. So, somebody is still sending cease & desist I assume.

There are also a few bootleg blog sites that have posted that their rules have not changed, they still do not allow Prince material. These are blogs that have banned any Prince ever since the infamous fan/blog/bootleg lawsuit from a few years ago, merely announcing that this status has not changed...

So, somebody's still active in having this stuff taken down.

If those that stand to make $ off the vault material don't, they have no incentive to release anything. So, yeah, guess there is a reason. Just sayin'...

You took the words out of my mouth. I'm just now beginning to grieve and if not for the distraction of his music, I probably would have jumped off a bridge by now... extreme.. but I did contact my sister to discuss my funeral arrangements (for future).

Death just seems that much closer now that P was snatched at 57. Death just seems that much closer now that the James Brown lineage is gone.

I love you Susannah but concentrate on fDeluxe.

They have already made millions since his death! People will still buy enough to keep them afloat.

If they release Live Blu Rays/ DVD in the next 18 months they will do great. Syracuse is the one I want! I will buy that instead of watching on youtube for sure.

I guess what I mean is this:

Say WB release a deluxe Purple Rain, then say the fans collectively decided FK WB! They shouldn't make $ off Prince, don't support them, don't buy it... If such a scenario happened and sales were not strong then it's doubtful we would ever see a deluxe SOTT for example. Because of this, I will continue to purchase new releases. (That is, as long as it's not just bastardizations with remixes by others in the industry or reissues that are identical to the 1st run. Won't support crap like that.)

Yep, fair enough. Support official releases! That makes sense. Youtube vids will not harm that though.

I too will buy deluxe versions. I want the 14 minute Computer Blue with a decent mix. The bootleg sounds crap.

Not only will the youtube vids not harm it, I dare say they will help sell his music. In my not-so-humble opinion, of course... wink

The fricken bank overseeing his estate brought in a locksmith to drill into his vault for God's sake. Prince would be outraged!

Everything you buy supports a wealthy family... Why "single-out" Prince's?

(Again)

Everything thing you buy supports a wealthy family (in which one family member made nearly everyone in the family rich, and funded other businesses and endeavors)

Shelia E needs to be kept away from Prince's legacy for the safety of that legacy.

I understand most of us have a certain fondness for her based on her past cobtributions to Prince's music, but her behaviour since Prince's passing is highly dubious.

She's trying to appoint herself as some kind of spokesperson or 'guardian', when just last year she went to the press claiming Prince had left her penniless. She also criticised him on twitter and suggested his Superbowl performance used pre-recorded backing tapes.

Spirits don't have bills....

Spirits aren't tired from working or a lack of opportunity..

Spirits do not pay for education....One of his Neices or nephews may discover the cure for something--because his funds paid for their education. One of them may make good music--because the family was able to maintain control of Paisley Park Studios.

Artists needed to be paid too...

I don't care how "rich" Prince was... or how un-worthy people feel that this family may be to receive what he left them...

Shocking lack of respect being shown here for the woman who inspired Prince to write Empty Room, The Beautiful Ones and who knows what all else.

She should not have backed-down..

You're going to have unneccesary and unwarranted "haters" regardless..

She should have said

There's an incredible amount of unreleased material that's been posted the past week. I'm sure it will come down eventually, but it will take a long time because of the sheer volume ... and I'm talkin' 'bout just the ones labeled with Prince's name.

Just 4 years after her father, a very famous musician and President of the Recording Academy, passed away? hmmm

Pretty sure it had to be done to help determine the value of Prince's assets. I've read what's in the vault could be valued at half a BILLION ... that's not something the courts can just assume without actually viewing what was inside.
