Prince's worst dance performances?

prince's worst dance performances are as follows:

theives in the temple!

he does some of the stupidest shit in that video and he just looks like he is trying way too hard.

the horny pony dance was the dumbest shit known to man!

the wooden leg is another stupid ass dance also...

if he is a genius why can't he make up intelligent dances like terance trent darby and mc hammer?

His worst dancing by far was the American Bandstand show with Prince stomping around in moon boots.

Um...that awful dance he used to do with Cat...where they would both jump in the air and kinda glide...I can't describe it better than that. Also, I think he does it in the Alphabet St. video towards the end...

Pretty bad!

I don't know if you can call them "dance moves", but the ones where he pretends like he's smoking a cigarette or brushing his teeth. Those always looked pretty retarded to me.

If you really think about it, all dances are kinda stupid looking. Here's some old ones:

The Charleston
The mashed potatoes
The twist
The pony
The funky chicken
The camel walk
The old man
The robot
The point
The sanctified lady

They're just meant to be fun.

One that I still find fun to watch is The Lindy Hop or The Jitterbug. Now that's demanding! People don't dance like that no mo'! Not Michael Jackson or Prince.

i've never been of the opinion Prince was a good dancer anyway.Sure, he's good at a couple of moves (the splits, that ballet-type-jumpy-feet-flicky thing he does in Partyman) but that's about it.

I remember reading an Andy Warhol quote that Prince, while attending a Warhol party, started dancing and Warhols opinion was "he really was not very good".

I suppose technically Prince is not a good dancer. I think that the great thing about Prince is that he didn't seem to give a shit and just let his body get on with dancing, whether it was in time to the beat or not. That takes more guts, to not give a shit about making a fool of yourself in front of thousands of people.

And I still think that the windmill jump in the air, then into the splits and back up again, during Housequake on Lovesexy 2 is one of the wildest things I've scene.

Just to redress the balance, Warhol said that Prince's Parade Hit 'N 'Run gig at Madison Square Garden was "the greatest I've ever seen".

you all are tripping, the dancing in Thieves in the temple extended is dated but really good (can you do that?), I watched a lovesexy bootleg video from toronto, and he can dance... way better than in the official lovesexy videos...

check out hot thing on the sign o the times concert...

he is pretty good because he is so short, everything looks really quick...

his dancing is much more interesting than micheal Jackson's same 5 or 6 freezeframe moves...

But... jackson has the ability to do better, he just needs to come back into his right mind... is it impossible?

No, the worst, very worst thing I've seen him do is the dancing to Baby Knows on various TV promo performances. The horn embellishment ruins this song anyways, so Prince decided it would be a good idea to emphasis this cheese with some lame ass move. And hey, wouldn't it be good if instead of only me doing it, I got all three of us doing it in a line - shrink wrap me, label my ass and stick me in the chiller next to the milk, cuz I am cheese.

My god, he actually choreographed that - some level of conscious thought went in to that.

IMHO, Prince never really "danced", he was more of a shimmy-er, who is best just kind of letting his body move to the music.

Actually, this thread has reminded me of the New Year's Eve perfomance with Miles Davis @ PP in 87. During the Beautiful Night jam, Prince does some of the funniest dancing I've ever seen.

It's like "I've played every instrument on the stage, I've dueted with Miles and scat sung, what the fuck can I do now? I know, I'll hop up and down and call it the Kangeroo, I'll prance around like Mick Jagger and call it the Catwalk, I'll insult my band member's dress sense whilst wearing the ugliest belt I've ever seen, because I CAN!"

How about the little leap he did off
of one of the Game Boyz in the first
Arsenio performance. I think it was
at the end of Kiss.

The thing he did on Arsenio (or was it the MTV Awards) when he hit himself on the face with the mic and some black dude was doing a Mick Ronson/Bowie thing pretending to fuck P up the ass! WEIRD!

and a review of one of the Parade shows in London said that the dancing was so good that 'choreography isn't a big enough word' or something to that effect.

Having been there myself - I would have to agree. Parade and SOTT both showcased his dancing and I wasn't the only one who thought he made MJ look nailed to the floor
