Yes and this bothered me. I saw that discussion and the implication that many of them weren't there because they were NOT invited... Surely all of his notable bandmates should have received invites.

if you don't mind me asking, where was this discussion with susannah? i haven't seen anything from her.

So strange/sad to see Judith Hill there and not Wendy & Lisa or Andre C, for ex. I get the "no drama" desire but it all seems pretty thoughtless.

I agree. I'm certainly not in a position to judge but it almost feels disrespectful to Prince himself to me. It would have been one thing if it were only family but it wasn't... Sheila was the one handling invitations so who they excluded seems even more strange.

Sheila has done over 30 local interviews - take that as you will. I don't know what's going on but it gives the appearance that she wanted to be in the spotlight on this one.

From my understanding there were alot of people who were uninvited. Supposedly certain people just "showed up". No invite. Like Damaris Lewis. Given the extent of how many friends Prince may have wanted there, it seems rather odd that so few people were thought to be invited. I chuffed at the headlines saying Prince's "nearest and dearest". nah, more like the most opportunitistic. Sad [Edited 4/25/16 13:23pm]

[/quote]That does seem suspicious. I imagine that would upset Prince. How he rolls he would want one interview and thats it. Why do the same interview 30 + times? And is anyone else sick of hearing the media refer to Sheila as his former fiancé?? Mouthing "marry me" on stage is hardly a proposal. Did she have a ring? [Edited 4/25/16 13:46pm]

That would certainly explain things. I'd hate to think that all those 20-something girls who knew him a hot minute were invited and Morris Day was not. Makes more sense if the people who just showed up were allowed to attend - still doesn't look great but I am sure they were all shocked. It does kind of indicate that Prince really left no instructions, don't it?

I'm not gonna pretend I know anyone's mind. But for one second put yourself in Sheilas shoes. It's possible there was a small handful of close insiders tasked with picking up the pieces. I show hell wouldn't wanna be in the kitchen during those discussions. It's been prolly 3-4 days straight of people running around with their heads cut off like a bunch of chickens. Sheila was given the task of making a guest list for a funeral & was told no more than "enter any amount here" of people. Let's say it's 30, she had to decide who to leave in & who to leave out. She's under duress & will forget a few people. She was probably doing her best to add people he's close to now, not people who we (people who don't know him) think he was close to a long time ago in a galaxy far away. Why is this an issue? Maybe Sheila is a take charge type personality. Alot of women we remember around Prince grew up & became moms. Becoming a mom will turn the hot & quite girl you remember who when prince said jump the response was how high into a drill sergeant. I don't care that someone didn't get invited. I care about a massive influence of my youth has been removed. Let's focus on the police investigation & find out what happened. Chuck Norris can kill two stones with one bird.

Wendy & Lisa were there. TMZ caught them in the airport walking quickly to catch a plane to Minneapolis.

I had to giggle when I read this because I thought the same thing about the whole mouthing of "marry me" on stage and being referred to as his former fiancee. Let's face it, the man had a lot of lovers and she was one in a loooonnng line of them. Does anyone know when this quasi-proposal happened? Have U had your + today?

I don't believe that's correct. The video was taken/posted after the service and they say they are going to grieve with the rest of the Revolution. It doesn't appear any members of the Revolution were at the service, and no pre-2012 musical collaborators other than Shelia, Larry Graham, and Kirky J. [Edited 4/25/16 15:07pm]

I think he had it all arranged when this took place? I had to personally arranged my father's funeral the same week he was passing and it takes some time to get things together. The purple boxes for keep sake memories (too many to be passed out to fans), the flower arangements, food preperations, cremation, service the next day...I hate to say it again but it seems everything was to be executed once it happened. Since invitations where given out, a list was probably already together. Remember he didnt want a fuss just a small gathering of his close friends and family and the ones who wasn't there, he probably already reached out to them, chopped it up, and made peace.

I have to say, (now that someone else has already said it) I also don't like the way they keep referring to Shelia E as his "former fiance" and she's sitting there like she was. I agree, him mouthing Marry me onstage is a cute moment they had between them, not a wedding proposal! I have never heard Prince refer to her as his former fiance and I find it tacky that she is referring to herself that way. I mean, apparently he has a girlfriend now (or did at the time of his death) and no one is mentioning her. Some of this I don't like at all.

*THIS*
I always liked Sheila but this bugs the f*ck out of me... Were his ex-wives even at the service???
I could even understand referring to Susannah Melvoin as a former fiance but Sheila?
She's presiding over everything, inviting (or NOT inviting) people to the service, etc... It's odd to me.

It seems like there are control issues. Sheila even said she would be the musical director of his fan gathering celebration. Who appointed her? Herself? And she said she would reunite all the originals??? Would Prince have even wanted that? People are doing what they want. I feel people are taking it upon themselves to call the shots. Everyone is trying to run things in their own way saying they were his best friend. Really?? Shrike the shepard and the sheep will scatter. The one person who controlled everything is gone and everything is a fucking mess now.

i wouldn't make much of it. i think Tyka, Maurice, Prez, Sheila and company are doing their best to follow Prince's wishes, and i'd go with Prince not wanting any drama and the private "memorial" wasn't meant to be anything big anyway... it was gonna happen quickly no matter who was there or not, and it was meant to be small and private. it was already announced before then that there's a planned memorial to be announced. that's when everybody can truly play their respects. + ∞ ʀ⁅VERB⁆я ∞

Angelsoncrack said: Just to clarify- I wasn't trying to insult Prince's personal decision on what should happen to his body, I just mean that I personally feel uncomfortable with the idea of Prince being cremated. I feel the same way about anybody, it's not just because it's Prince. Sorry. I agree I'm still in shock losing him, not knowing what happened to him. Then an autopsy it's a terrible thought. His public image will always be out there for us to remember. Our hearts are broken and our love is forever I just hope these wishes of his have been honored hard as they are to comprehend.

Exactly. I really don't get why folks are even having the audacity to complain. I really can appreciate that Sheila E and has stepped up and helped the family out with arrangements (or so it appears) when really she could've stepped back and said it was too hard for her to do and left it alone. This is light years away from the disaster of James Brown's funeral and the media circus surrounding both MJ and Whitney's funerals. So far, everything has been private and peaceful. I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

Yes Sheila might have stepped up to help out, which is good, but hadn't they fell out again not long ago? And if you are that upset, why let Et interview you on the day of the service or day after. I find that a little strange. Maybe she just knows the business well. And feels someone has to talk to the media. Even if it's to protect the family abit. I hope so anyhow.

I don't really like the whole fiancée thing either with regards to Sheila E, but maybe no one was excluded...I thought I read somewhere that flights to MN were booked and plus everyone has families so maybe the day after was the only feasible time W/L (and others, etc.) could get there. I dunno, maybe in my grief I just want everything to be wrapped up in a nice happy package

I don't quite understand why suddenly Sheila is in charge of things either. They might have still been friends with Prince but I guess he had several other (and possibly closer) friends too.
