It was around 9 PM at my house in India, I had just reached back from office and was going through facebook and suddently saw a post from my friend mentioning "Prince is dead". I didnt believe it at first and tried to reach the org, but once i saw it was unresponsive i knew it would be true, as it sadly turned out to be sad

I was brushing my teeth, about to jump in the shower and through the running water, I barely heard the guy on the news (from the t.v. in my bedroom) cut through the program and say, "We have some news from Paisley Park in Minnesota.." I cut off the water and thought, "Did he say Paisley Park?" , then he said, "Prince Nelson has died" --- I dropped my toothbrush and ran into the living room crying--- called my friend and she said, "yes, it's true.." sad

In a pub on Byres Road, having a bite to eat and a beer before heading off to see Noel Gallagher. I phoned my wife to check if she had picked my son up from after school and the first thing she said to me was "Is it true?"...

Did you go to the show where Noel had the stage in purple with a pic of Prince and dedicated Live Forever to him?

I was in a taxi on way home from work. Cabbie was chatting like they do but on the radio they made an announcement. I just froze and the cabbie realised I wasn't answering him anymore. He said "you like Prince" and I just couldn't speak!

I live in Europe, we just finished dinner, it was around 7 pm, and my 3 year old daughter was asking for some nursery rhyme videos, and there it was, breaking news on yahoo.ca... I was in shock, and I've been mourning since then. I really have the feeling I've lost a long time friend, I couldn't stop thinking about him all day. Prince and Dead are just two words that don't match together.

I was surprised, but not shocked, given the recent speculation and blogs over the last few weeks saying that Prince was sick and would not live past this summer.

Which blogs said that? It struck me as lighting on a sunny day...

At least, I was the one who read about the news first. I would not have liked until the end of my life, to remember that he/she was the one who told me the bad news.

I was at work on the phone with a client and my phone just started to blow up and my boss paged me.

When I got off the phone and called her back she said, "please say it isn't true" and I just knew (she is almost as big a fan as me).

We both just started crying.

Then we both ended up partying with Spike Lee, and that was the best way I could think of to honor him. With the Purple Army

I was on my lunch break when news of a death at Paisley Park was posted. Then I spent the next 30 minutes glued to my phone, slowly realizing that my greatest fear had come to light.

I was sitting ouside in my garden, it was a beautiful day. I was actually reading the org when I saw the thread about paramedics at Paisley, when nobody knew what was going on. And I am really happy that was the case, because I don't know how I would have coped if I had found out via a notification on my phone.

I was in a meeting at work ( I work at a university). My former boss who knew how big of a Prince fan I was and once bought me tickets for one of his shows texted me and said "Did you just hear, I think Prince died." I was floored, it was an informal meeting so I told my new boss and my co-worker that I just got a text about Prince and whereas it wasn't like losing a family member it was close. Still completely floored.

I was walking to catch a bus and was already upset as I had just been told my dog had been put to sleep when I got a message from a friend saying she was so sorry and sending me a hug. It took me a couple of minutes to realise the message wasnt about my dog as I hadnt told anyone. I went on fb to work out what she was talking about and it was everywhere. I then had to sit on a bus for an hour by myself trying not to cry too much - I failed massively at this sad

I was outside walking... Listening to a Prince "walking playlist" and my wife called to tell me. I dismissed it at first and then told her wait for a confirmation. She said its from The Huffington Post.. And I froze. I continued my walk and thank goodness I had on sunglasses. After "We Can Funk" went off, I changed my playlist and haven't listened to Prince song since.

I'll never forget that tweet, "It's him. He's gone". cry

I was in Detroit about to give a four hour presentation. Right before the presentation started I saw the TMZ report that there was a fatality at Paisley Park. I started hyperventilating. I made a point to stay away from my phone because I knew that there was no way that I could give the presentation if Prince had died. Immediately after the presentation, my phone had a ton of messages and I was devasted. I had to take my clients out to dinner and pull it together. Immediatley after the dinner, the floodgates opened and I sobbed like a baby and felt paralyzed. I found a church and said prayers for Prince. Remaining professional for that period of time was the hardest thing that I have ever had to do. I have avoided the internet, tv and listening to his music because it is just too much for me.

At work, just beginning to play around on GD of the Org. Went to click KingBad's weird thread about Paisley Park, and *poof* the Org went dead and I couldn't log back on to see what he posted. So I wandered off to some other newsie board, and there it was. Then suddenly my phone started buzzing from people who really know me, asking if I was ok. I went into shock mode at that point.

I was about to leave a work seminar when I got the news.

In an effort to make us network at this event we had to choose a smiley sticker thing and then talk to people who had the same sticker. I choose a purple one and then when I met someone else with the same sticker I explained that it was purple for Prince. Then just as we were about end the seminar someone on my table read the news off her phone "Prince is dead". I felt like I was going to burst into tears and left quickly. I phoned my sister from the car (also a fan) and she advised not to listen to any soppy Prince ballads on my 30 mile trip home late at night. I listened to 1999 which I think was probably the first Prince album I bought. That was a night I'll never forget. I've often wondered how I would cope and now it's happened.

Similar to you Angel. I was home from uni around 5-6ish, and I was making cups of tea when my friend messaged me saying 'Have you heard about Prince?'. With his recent flu and hospitiliastion my mind went straight there, and I quickly went on the internet to find out for myself before my friend could tell anymore. At the time I was reading that the body was uncomfired, and I was really hoping that it wasn't true or (as selfish and horrible as it might be) that it was someone else, some nameless faceless other, but by the time I'd finished making the drinks it was for certain.

I didn't listen to Prince straight away (though I'd been playing the SOTT vinyl yesterday morning). Last night, some friends and I stayed up listening to Prince albums and watching concerts and drinking until about 3 AM.

I was sitting in my car at work eating lunch when my first wife texted me. I didn't believe it at first, dismissing it as an internet hoax (how many times has Morgan Freeman died now?). I googled "Prince" and learned of a death at Paisley Park but no details as to who. I kept reading articles from various websites while I finished my lunch. Shortly after returning to work I received a text from a friend who said it was reported by CNN. I went to the bathroom to check for updates. That's when I read that Prince's publicist confirmed that it was Prince who had died. Needless to say, I lost it and still can't believe this is really happening.

On my way to a Jett Rebel concert in Antwerp.

As Jett is heavily Prince inspired, he did a 3-song piano tribute to Prince's work

I opened a thread to record all other artist Prince tributes.
I posted a link to Jett's tribute performance there.

At work, doing what I love-uploading some images of Prince on a FB group I'm a part of

working @ listening to the recent 1985 soundboard leak

Someone came and told me 'did you hear Prince died'? I brush him off, this was after I just shared a link about an ambulance called to Paisley Park

I swear I'm still in denial.
