Prince opening up more....

So it's become clear that Prince is opening up a bit more at these Piano & A Microphone shows, which is of course a very good thing.

At the Paisley shows, he spoke about Lisa and David Bowie...... last night he spoke at length about Vanity and Big Chick.

I notice on Facebook that some fans are surprised at this. It's definitely a good thing. Prince is coming to terms with his own history and reflecting.

Prince opening up more is exactly what he needs to do and this amazing tour is finally his outlet to do just that.

Only P could pull off this type of tour of just a mic and piano...I had my doubts but this appears to be a true home run of a tour that hopefully will turn out to be a worldwide tour!

RedRocks Amphitheater is waiting.....

The greatest live performer of our times was is and always will be Prince.

the tour could be a home run, but he needs to stop doing the 2 shows a night. Each show has been under 90 minutes, i heard that the second show was just over an hour! The price of the tickets is way too high for an average 75 mins show.

He will discover how healing it can be to open up sometimes. I've always felt that Prince did not realize how strong he is inside. Maybe now he does.

This tour will put more millions in prince's purple databank! 4 being more open & being the sole payee with NO band. Eye've always prefered his keyboard playing over his guitar.

Eye would pay no limit 2 C....Plus every real fan will b in attendance with the new MEGA ticket system 2 stop ticket scalpers...

Pic takes up waaaayyy too much bandwidth - luv4u][/color]

eye will ALWAYS think of prince like a "ACT OF GOD"! N another realm. eye mean of all people who might of been aliens or angels.if found out that prince wasn't of this earth, eye would not have been that surprised. R.I.P. prince

Have to agree with you 100%! It should be only 1 show per night to really let the music experience be about that one performance. Plus people really should be allowed to get their monies worth from a full show!

Bruce manages to do 3 1/2 hour shows, still. But we know P is all about that money.

I think this is a good thing and concertwise it is one of the best ideas he´s had in a long time. I like the concept because it is something he hasn´t done before, yet with familiar songs with some newer songs sprinkled in between more wellknown songs, and he plays some rare songs as well.

I´m just worried that this more personal, more intimate concept, if it is a concept, is not something that can be done very often because of the highly personal nature of some of the anecdotes, stories and memories he´s sharing.

I like the spontaneous nature of these shows, with what sounds like adlibbed or improvised bits.

It never ceases to amaze me how Prince, after all these years, can still come up with such a simple, yet highly interesting concept.

I haven´t read of any mentions of Big Chick during the Melbourne concerts. What did he say?

True and it would be so much more if Prince would do this before the person passes away.

So he makes a somber statement playing the piano and draws some cheers and a few tears but how much it would have mean to Denise if he would have just picked up the phone to say hi sometimes.

From her comments and his actions flaunting Appollonia replacing her in PR it doesn't sound like 'love'.

Prince has wounded and parted ways with many over the years and you can hear it from W & L, Jesse Johnson, and especially the song One Day on Andre Cymone's latest album.

If we're all going to be friends and everything will be rosie in the aflterlife then what's the point of this life at all?

I hope this will be another step for Prince for healing and mending friendships.

honestly not wanting to be negative. but i think he will get some negative press and reaction down the line if he and the promoters continue to charge the amount they are for decent seats for 80 mins concerts. Maybe not in austrailia but certainly in europe and the states. The good thing is that it is early days for these shows/ concept, so hopefully, they will change it! Just charge a little less and play a little longer and watch this tour truly fly!

This.
I find it funny how people here dont see this as nothing but a quick $mash and grab. Hence the 2 shows per day.

Saw the second show last night and will see him again tonight. And yes it was fantastic to see just him performing on the piano.... and his tablet. lol
But it was short, and with 3 unnecessary encore call outs.
And much like his other live shows (with band), expect to see 80% of the shows to be striaght off a template.

I think the people on the first show were extremely lucky to get him fresh off the news that Vanity had passed away, but you don't want to be wishing for the Kiss of Death in hope of getting a "better than the norm" show.

Was it worth the $400 I paid for it? No.

Is it worth half that? Yes.

My problem could also be that I know him too well (live wise), so out of the whole 80mins, Id say that maybe 3 songs REALLY did it for me. The rest was great, but I already know that P can do great, so.............. wink

Paisley Park, because of the mere fact that Ive never heard this song live.! But it too was amazing.

Yes The Beautiful One was cool And played in full which made it even more special.

And although Ive heard this 1,000 times, and it was only a short version of it....... Purple Rain was breathtaking.
Hearing it just on the piano brought back memories of him playing it in the movie.

And the woohoohoohooo at the end, was sung in such a way, that it sounded like a plea of some kind. Almos like a cry. And not sung in the same tune as it normally is. Very Tori Amos like.

No one made a noice during it, which added to the amazement.

Like I said, breathtaking.

The thread is about Prince being more open is his performances. It has nothing to do with Wendy, Lisa, Andre, Jesse or any other projections you throw in the mix.

Hell just froze over because I agree with you Kool.

There is a whole concert forum where people are discussing the short duration of the show. That's a legitimate issue but it's not the topic of this particular thread.

I wasn't trying to 'shade' Prince and if Andre cared enough to write a song about his feelings and sadness then I'll comment on it.

Prince and Andre were practically brothers while we've seen how the women in Prince's life turn out so if he hasn't reconnected with Andre why would anyone think he did with Denise?

Seems you're forgetting that Denise disowned everything Prince put upon her.

She was disgusted by it after her devotion to Christianity and she spent the last years of her life distancing herself from that persona and lifestyle.

On topic don't ASSume facts not in evidence and project your own SPECULATIONS onto strangers in order to facilitate venting your own spleen of the venom it contains.

Thanks for the answer, I´m glad that you made it to the show and enjoyed it.

My first guess was actually Paisley Park, too, because it´s such a rare song among his live sets but then I thought that you probably already heard the Paisley Park piano recordings from a few weeks ago, and I thought The Ladder and The Beautiful Ones must have been very special because I had read about the way he played those songs, and how he had changed the lyrics a bit and put a lot of effort and emotion into his performance.

-

-

The first time I heard Paisley Park live was at Paisley Park during the 2002 celebration, and Prince walked right through the crowd, right next to me before he got on stage. It was a surreal experience to witness that and to hear one of my favorite and rarely played songs in Paisley Park, of all places, considering the song´s name is Paisley Park.

-

-

I never would´ve guessed that you´d find How Come You Don´t Call me so special because as a live song, it is not that rare that he plays it but yeah, a full version is always a treat and very reminiscent of the early 80s when he would play very long and extended versions of that song during the 1999 tour, often with slightly different endings each night he performed it. I love that song in all its versions. It´s perfect for this kind of piano tour.

-

He also played Purple Rain on the piano during the 2002 celebration and also a few weeks ago at Paisley Park , and I think it´s great that he plays it during this tour. Sounds so good on the piano, and makes it sound fresh and different compared to the guitar version (which also sounds very fresh every time he plays it because he changes it a bit almost every time).

Glad you had fun.

This tour sounds very exciting.

Perfectly understandable that you really, really, REALLY want to see this concert lol....and so do I. But hey, it´s so rare that he plays in Australia and New Zealand, I am just very happy that they get to see such a special tour now.

It really took me by surprise that he decided to play in those countries. I thought he´d start in Europe, or maybe the US because of some of the rumors and speculations that I read about (for instance about his guitars being flown to Europe etc. etc.)
