Prince inspired by Mac Davis??

I caught some of Mac Davis's "Hooked on Me" today. All throughout there is a bass part that sounds very much like the beginning of Diamonds and Pearls that P plays on the piano. Does anybody else hear this? Wow, Prince digs Mac! How (non)funky!

Mac Davis! Wow! Haven't heard his name is years. I used to like some of his songs back in the day.

I saw him recently on a show on some Country TV channel. He told some stories and played some songs. He was really good.
