I was feeling bad about Vanity's passing, but reading Prince's comments... idk. I think it's a distasteful tribute to reminise on the day of a friends' passing, about the time he... domesticaly abused her. 'Called me short. I had your azz thrown in a pool. RIP Vanity'. That's Prince ghetto azz for ya'! biggrin Seems like everything in Purple Rain has an element of truth to it.

he was all about celebrating the fun they experienced together, not the darkness of death

Oh I get it. In the context of their relationship, there might have been no hard feelings. Still I don't know if there is ever an apporpriate situation, in which one guy can have his bodyguard assault his GF for talking back to him. IIRC, I read that Vanity left Prince due to general mistreatment and disrespect. For all we know, especially given her Pre-Prince history, this might have been a traumatic experience for her. Thrown away like trash. For me it's more evidence in the 'Prince beats women' pile.

The "You can't, you're too little." sounds like Vanity was getting hers in too. They didn't always bring out the best in each other, it seems.

Rhianna was chippy that night with Chris Brown too. Doesn't make what he did ok either.

Big Chick, and I believe there is a Dez or Terry Lewis interview somewhere referencing this, was known to carry shotguns and handguns. He was a very intimidating figure. I'm just putting myself in Vanity's shoes there and realizing that Prince had enormous advantage over her. He's her boss. He's her lover. IDK. When he has her thrown in the pool, at that moment, she really has no other options really than to nervously laugh it off, or play along with it, which I assume she did. Her career is over if if she calls the cops. But internally, was it another 'I'm nothing moment' for her?

I don't think Prince was telling a story about something as serious as Chris Browning her. More like she was pissed at him about something and he said he was going to throw her ass in the pool to cool off. 'No you can't', 'Then Chick will.' But joking, because Prince wouldn't be telling his audience that he was doing anything but that. He may have been scared.
What?

prince is always so misunderstood. Eye never once believed he would actually have his bodyguard throw her in a pool. It was just a playful threat between two lovers.

eye will ALWAYS think of prince like a "ACT OF GOD"! N another realm. eye mean of all people who might of been aliens or angels.if found out that prince wasn't of this earth, eye would not have been that surprised. R.I.P. prince

honestly not wanting to be negative. but i think he will get some negative press and reaction down the line if he and the promoters continue to charge the amount they are for decent seats for 80 mins concerts. Maybe not in austrailia but certainly in europe and the states. The good thing is that it is early days for these shows/ concept, so hopefully, they will change it! Just charge a little less and play a little longer and watch this tour truly fly!

Not really....If Prince was doing an arena or stadium tour you would have a point. But whenever a superstar act does small venues you can expect high ticket prices. As for fans balking at the 80 to 90 minute shows? Given that Prince is the only musician/vocalist onstage (he's not being backed by a band which would give him the luxuary to take a breather from time to time), its a no brainer that such a show would be shorter given he's doing two gigs a night.

Totally agree. Not like it's a run of the mill greatest hits show with medleys that we've all seen before. Looking at the set-lists and the clips floating round, its so unique I'd have no problem paying more than usual.

It's all options of course, but I would prefer a longer show than 80 mins for 200 quid. Make it a fuller 2 hour show once a night and it would be a whole lot better.Just my opinion. The show would have an even better impact overall I think. Whatever anybody thinks, There has been a bit of negativity towards the shows because of the prices and length of shows. My thoughts are that it could be adressed and put right for future shows quite easily.

If you have a longer show (1 show a night) the price of a ticket would double, and half the amount of people would see him.

Since he's said this is something really new for him, I don't know if he could do a 2hr show yet.
He playing song on piano(no band) and trying to talk about time/events/people. So this might be a bit harder for him.
I just think he could bring the price down.

But I don't see the thing about Vanity as a bad character flaw for Prince
People do that stuff all the time.

I remember watching Dancing with the Stars when Lelia Ali was on(with Maxim)

and he was hanging out with her and family and they were by the pool and she acted like a coy innocent girl and hip bumped him into the pool...

Well you could add a extra night. Most people just want to feel that they have had value for money these days. As great as the concert might be in the time hes on. I would feel a little short changed and im a big fan. Long term, hardcore fans are going to lap these shows up with all the probable bootlegs that are going to surface if he keeps touring with it.

Cmon, this is a joke right... you call playfully throwing your friend in a pool
ABUSE???

Prince never really acknowledges how short he is.. never mind someone poking
fun at his height lol he was being real.. in her honor.

but to play along with your wacked view point. . Maybe prince was just retaliating
frrom Vanity's horrible and traumatic verbal and mental abuse by making
fun of his height lol... gtfoh...
in all reality i found the sentiments he shared touching

For sure he like the money. But in this scenario 2 shows a night seems warranted. 90 minutes seems appropriate for this style of show, it's just him doing all the work/vocals. Seems like a lot for one person.

//// You were not in attendance but you think you know he meant the comment in a mean matter. eek. He said she would not want people to be sad and he tried to tell of humorous moment. Most sane people do not see a person being thrown into a pool as domestic violence. Stop trying to make Prince out to be Ike Turner or some pimp that put the Jedi mind trick on these woman. Besides by all accounts she did not take s lot of shit off of him which his probaly the reason they did not make it as a couple.

No just being realistic. Something you are incapable of being. But thats fine, because hopefully you will get an invite to paisley park for all your arse licking, which does seem to happen to fans from time to time!

/-- You knew the format of the show and the cost before hand so your comments are negative just to be nagative. I am sure he will work out price and pacing as he goes along dude has been doing this for over 30 years.

Did you know BB King who died last year at 89 still toured year-round? Prince is young compared to that and he could easily take this tour around the world for the rest of the year. But I don't think a concert like this sjould last too long. Even the most diehard fan would get tired of seeing Prince sitting behind a piano for 3 hours. The length of the shows is just fine. And if a celebrity like Prince plays in a small theatre, you just know it's going to be exclusive. And that you're going to have to pay for that.
