First PRINCE Songs You Didn't Like What were the first PRINCE songs you just didn't like?
For me the first songs that I didn't feel right away when I listened to had to be:
PAISLEY PARK | |

My name is prince. I like most songs on the symbol album, but this song is terrible. [Edited 12/11/15 11:55am]

Hot Thing. Back in 1987, I didn't have any Prince albums just yet, but I did buy the single of I Could Never (etc.). I flipped it over and just couldn't get into the b-side. And when I did start buying Prince albums the next year, I never really got to like this tune.

Never skipped a track on a Prince album from Prince thru Graffiti Bridge then came "Jughead" and "Push"

7 is the only one I listened to and immediately wondered if it was gonna be over soon. Idk what it is about that song, but it feels empty to me. I could be wrong, though, and love it next month, who knows? you can do anything

New Power Generation. Seeing that title on the back of the Graffiti Bridge album, I was so excited to hear it... I expected the realization of the whole Lovesexy idea rolled into one song. What I heard sounded to me more like P was courting Pepsi-Cola to do some commercials.

Yep, the Grafitti Bridge title track. That was the first stinker for me. Ronnie Talk to Russia wasn't great, but the guitar kind of saves it and makes it at least interesting. "Love & honesty, peace & harmony"

I never listen to "Courtin Time," and I'm not a real fan of "Strollin'."

I love Strollin´ but can´t listen to Courtin´Time . How do you feel about We Gets Up? That one is almost unlistenable. " I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! I´m always funny dude...I´m hilarious! Are we gonna smoke?"

Every song on HitNRun Phase 1. Up til then, Prince had never created a song I couldn't listen to. But then he created a whole album of them!

This constant Mplsound harrassment is close to bullying, you know that? I like Mpslsound because I think it has great qualities as a work of art, qualities of which we could discuss if you were inclined to have such discussions instead of shouting "like" and "dislike" all day long. I don't "like" it based on a brainless gut feeling that would be based on little but my own subjective emotional response, even though my brainless gut feeling also tells me that I like it. Of course the fact that my opinion is that it's a great album doesn't mean it's one, but unless this can be debated with people who can give a more sophisticated argument than "it's turd" or "it's genius", it's useless to try and debate it. At the end of the day, it's all about like and dislike and personal taste. That said, I'd love to read why databank thinks MPLSound is a work of art. Or should we create a new thread for that?
