The 'Batman' album was the first time I was less than amazed by an album.
'Partyman' in particular stood out as less inspired & more 'formula' or something.

Fortunately there were still some great albums after that one, tho.

ummmm, by definition a fan loves everything, on every album since For you to Phase 2, NPGMC and side projects included (Carmen Electra is a female Eminem and Tony M is Rakim). Jughead is a misunderstood Magnum Opus!

"Little Red Corvette" They used to play it on KQRS the rock station in Minneapolis when the album came out. Didn't care for it. I wasn't hooked until I heard "Let's Pretend We're Married."

This constant Mplsound harrassment is close to bullying, you know that?

I like Mpslsound because I think it has great qualities as a work of art, qualities of which we could discuss if you were inclined to have such discussions instead of shouting "like" and "dislike" all day long.

I don't "like" it based on a brainless gut feeling that would be based on little but my own subjective emotional response, even though my brainless gut feeling also tells me that I like it.

Of course the fact that my opinion is that it's a great album doesn't mean it's one, but unless this can be debated with people who can give a more sophisticated argument than "it's turd" or "it's genius", it's useless to try and debate it.

Peace wink

I like MPLSound too so you're not alone.

I've realised that, during the vinyl years, I got used to, and often became to like, the songs that didn't click with me at first. A track would have to be especially bad for me to take the trouble to move the needle, which I why I was eventually able to discover the genius within songs like Tamborine.

Very good point. And it was even worse with cassettes, because you couldn't see where the next track began - you had to FF, FF, FF a little more... d'oh! Rewind a bit, rewind a bit more, aaaand, there we are. biggrin

Perhaps our primitive technology gifted us with a patience (and great music) that the kids today just don't have. cool

I still listen to whole albums, always. I never, ever skip a track. Either the tracks I don't fancy so much will grow on me or won't, but when I start playing an album, I'm in for the whole ride.

The first time I heard Kiss I thought "Oh no, this is not gonna be popular, melody is dull and production very simple". However It only took me about three more listens to appreciate it's magic smile

Some stuff from ATWIAD also comes to mind. I remember that Temptation and Tambourine did not get repeated spins rigth away!

But the first truly dissapointment for me was not one song but when I heard the Chocolate Invasion. Wow, that album felt cold, uninspired and dull, and included very few of Prince trademarks...

Take Me With U, never liked it..

This astounds me. To me, it's perfect pop. I guess if you preferred what The Time and previous Prince albums served up, it may have been too lite to your ears?

I agree about Take Me With You (not liking it, I mean). Yes, it's a lovely little pop song. But Apollonia's caterwauling pretty much ruins it. She's so flat, it actually hurts my ears.

New Power Generation. Seeing that title on the back of the Graffiti Bridge album, I was so excited to hear it... I expected the realization of the whole Lovesexy idea rolled into one song. What I heard sounded to me more like P was courting Pepsi-Cola to do some commercials. sad

yeahthat lol Me too! But I grew to like it and has become a guilty-pleasure listen of mine. First one I heard and just straight-up rejected and still pretty much dislike is "Live 4 Love." The percussion moves but the rest of the sound just grates on me--guitar squealing is just too much for me here which is weird because I usually like that sort of thing, but not this time! I didn't much care for the jet fighter scenario either and the silly lyric "Is it life? BOOM! Is it death? BOOM!" Reminds me of that keyboardist in the Graffiti Bridge movie who goes "Boom" after Morris and Jerome walk out of the Kid's club. disbelief Watch yer ass Prince, I might go BOOM with this disk against the brick wall! eek

Surprised me. Heh--lovers of this song, please do not flame boxed

Thunder. It was my first Prince album and I wasnt feeling that. Actually turned it down since my mom wanted to hear the whole thing loud. Even as a kid I was kinda embarrassed.

No!

I like the 4:20 mark of Push where they keep telling Prince to get on the mic.

"Nah, man, you don't me on the mike!"

The "I'm good to cream every boy and girl" line Prince declares is funny. batting eyes

Graffitti Bridge was the first song I felt I couldn't listen to more than a couple of times as it made me cringe. That album sealed the deal for me that P was on the decline and things would never be the same again..welcome to the 90's!

Not to say that he didn't hit great heights in the few years afterwards, but that track was when I felt the quality control took a serious dip.
