Sweet feathery Jesus, this album frickin' blows! It makes the six album stretch from Musicology to 20Ten seem like timeless classics by comparison. Phase One kicks the unholy hell out of it!!! Phase Two sounds like lame old folks music. It has the stink of "white man's overbite" all over it.whofarted

"Black Muse" was almost ruined for me immediately when I realized what other song it reminded me of after the vocals kicked in: "Joe Cool" by B.B. King.

If you don't know the song, do not go listen to it. You're welcome.

I dont get the negativity. This is amazing and far better than silence and nothing. He's finally embracing everything slowly and we get to hear things as they move through to their full commercial release, its AMAZING and I dont get the complaints.

I'M LOVING ALL OF IT. ITS FUN. F U N You guys remember FUN, right?

smile

I have to really dig deep, deep, deeeep into my memory to remember the last Prince album that was fun(k)... Think...think...think... It was 3121... Gon' be so much fun...

Well I'm taking this whole HNR era as just that... A DRIVE BY in the tweet, instantaneous consumption and move on spirit in which its intended. Some songs we know, but most people do not know them, some are new, or re-purposed but the more intreseting thing is that Prince is embracing different channels of distribution.

Its no big deal that the songs have shown up in other places before...ALL INTERNET CONTENT IS REPURPOSED IN MANY DIFFERENT OUTLETS NOW. He's really jumped into the internet pool again with both feet, and its designed to be consumed in different outlets by different audiences to reach a largely segmented listening base.

Whats fun is Prince on Insta and Twitter - it really is him most of the time, you can't fake his sense of humour and he responds and jokes around, posts and deletes and generally seems to be having a good time with all of it.

I dont have alot of time to track down the boots floating around, periodically I do, but releasing video like he did on Tidal makes Tidal worth every penny. I think everyone needs to let go of the old Prince box & the old style of record making and releasing and just enjoy watching and listening to Prince make his way through the slog of the music business on the internet.

Look we all have to find ways to keep ourselves in the game of our professions as we get older, Prince & Madonna however clunky they appear sometimes are inspiring in their dogged determination to not be pushed to the side. I am cheering Prince on, all the way.

Well said. Standing up for us in our 40s lol

Revelation

Revelation.....
Revelation.....

Its coming back to me now
You and I were meant to be together
And how

Revelation...
Revelation...

It seems like you've always been here
Now that you are
Stay with me forever my dear

Revelation...
Revelation

If ever, if ever there was ever
such a thing as time, oooh babe
It's useless,
so useless to me now
for in your arms is everything
in your arms
everything

An army of haters one by one
will do what they will to everyone
but the task at hand until we see the sun
is to keep doing you
until you come
to
Revelation...

Revelation ....

Can I play with you now...
Can I, can I play with you now....

It's all coming back to me know
Like it was deep in the ocean
I beat my sword into a cloud
Shared a heavenly potion
Future queen
Half east half west
The truth somewhere
Blessed in between

Through english glamour casting spell

through hebrew greek and roman hell
higher to the overstand
the color of the pharohs hand
the color of the pharohs hand
the color of the pharohs hand

i think that should be "I beat my sword into a plough", as in, turning a mean of fighting/war

back into a productive tool.

they used to melt ploughs and beat them into swords in times of war. so i'm sure they'd do
the reverse when the fighting was done and people went back to their daily routines.

Ya, I wondered that...but it real tough to make it out - makes sense though!

Black Muse could have been on The Rainbow Children. Lyrically and the sound of it. Highest quality track.

It's 2 songs actually. at 4 minute 19 a second song called "A Thousand Light Years" starts and was once part of the Welcome 2 America album. I have heard the album...don't ask me from who or how...just know that this was one of the songs.

White Man's Overbite

[Edited 12/13/15 7:08am]

10/10 for the originality of your opinion.

0/10 for what I actually think of the assessment.

First of all, HnR1 being better than HnR2? (there's like, one courageous other person that thinks the same that I know of here, I'm guessing it's about really liking dancey tracks).

Secondly, you're essentially saying that albums like Planet Earth, MPLSSound and 20TEN have better tracks? Original!

Thirdly, this is supposed to have "white man's overbite"?

But it's ok, takes all sorts to make the world go round.

Have a feeling this is gonna end up a cult fave of more than a few fans. It's the right mix of P horniness, deep love, compassionate politics and a good touch of silliness. I don't usually like him in this jazz/musical mode but tunes are solid here

I'm loving this album myself, but I also loved phase one and AOA. I think Prince has had a pretty decent run these last couple of years. Out of all Prince albums I very rarely listen to Rave un2, New power soul, MPLSound, Twenty10, Planet Earth and Chaos and Disorder, now those are what I consider to be poor slbums and these most recent releases aren't anywhere near that level of rubbish.

OH is that why it's $27 for FLAC?! I was like, "Well, good morning! But also...fuck you."

Both for that price is a little more tolerable, but I've already purchased Phase 1. I wouldn't buy it again, even if I did like it. I guess I'll have to hear an unauthorized copy.

Some of the snippets are promising. Look At Me, Look At U sounds really cool. Black Muse and Big City sound awfully similar to me, but a nice sound. I had a feeling 2Y2D would be included, as it's a perfect fit sonically. It will be nice to finally have. When She Comes gives me a Satisfied vibe. Baltimore and RnR work well together. Screwdriver seems like the only odd man out.

Seriously. I'm not buying Phase One again. I'll need to wait for the CD.

I somehow missed this thread yesterday, saw it a bit ago, rushed to tidal to buy FLAC (even though I've already purchased 1/2 the tracks), saw you have to buy both albums... No thanks! I'll buy CD or vinyl, I'd even pay $13 for Phase 2 on FLAC. I will NOT pay $26 for digital copies when I've already purchased 75% of the tracks.

I just hope Prince wil continue as he does. Four albums in one year, is better that 1 in 4 years.

I agree, it's great to get new music on a regular basis.

But on the other hand, can you imagine the strength of the album if Prince did wait 4 years?

But we all know Prince doesn't work like that, and that's fine by me.

I had a chance to listen to the new album last night. A few immediate reactions...what the hell is Screwdriver doing on this album???? It should have been on PlectrumElectrum...terribly out of place and the track never seemed to find the right groove. Other than the glaring omission of Free Urself (hopefully phase 3?) I am LOVING most of the tracks! Black Muse,Revelation, Big City, Groovy Potential, Stare, Baltimore are all top notch!!! The rest are really good wink

That's a little harsh. Maybe the Gent thinks that buying Phase One and half the tracks on Phase 2 once was enough and doesn't want to buy a bundle that is only 25% new. How much integrity is there in that?!? Just sayin'...
I rushed over to Tidal to buy, saw the bundle, decided to wait. Wait to buy that is... listening now! wink

they used to melt ploughs and beat them into swords in times of war. so i'm sure they'd do

It's Biblical, ultimately--Isaiah 2:4: "And he shall judge among the nations, and shall rebuke many people: and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruninghooks: nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more."

Of course, it has a life outside of that original context. The whole turning from war and anger to peaceful constructive activities. It's a common metaphor--and the same verse is behind "Down by the Riverside"'s references to "lay[ing] down my sword and shield" and "study[ing] war no more."

WHEN SHE COMES is my top track here, in fact the only one worth listening to. A far superior slow jam to recent efforts like On The Couch or Satisfied. This is a little weirder, and like someone else said, a slight distant taste of Parade. Prince is stretching himself here a bit, I think, unlike the rest of the album where he treads safe ground. Listen to that opening vocal line, the melody is crazy. And always nice to hear Prince drumming, too smile.

.

The rest of the album, well, hmmmm, nooooo....

PIPS! Eurgh...
