I have only listened to it once, as background music, but it certainly seems better then Phase One:

  • No guest artists

  • No random noises

  • No slooooowed down vocals or autotune

  • No Welton (if there is, he isn't doing his usual tricks)

  • Horns

  • Funk

U been bamboozled, hoodwinked, took.

I'm hoping that Tidal will soon add an option to download only the new album, or that it will be available on iTunes. I'll buy the CD when it comes out. But I want to hear it before then. Organic funk? That sounds like exactly what I wanted after I didn't like Phase One.

You can download it now in the Tidal store without a membership, along with Free Urself, If I can get your attention and Chocolate Invasion, etc.

Well shit, this is bloody good stuff. Screwdriver on here is a bit weird, but I find it very hard to believe if you're a long term Prince follower there isn't something on here you like. It's high on quality from start to finish. Sounds full. Feck me even RNRLA is cracking now.

I'm sold. Now I just need to hear this fucking thing. Come on, Tidal. Release it without a bundle!

Is it available without being bundled to Phase One?

That's great about If Eye Could Get Ur Attention (or whatever). I don't have that in high quality yet. Thanks for the heads up!

btw. if the 4 images on twitter prince page are the 4 cover of 4 phases...

phase 3 could be the "lovesexy" icon with "Free Urself", "if I Could Get Ur Attention" and other '80 songs.

Then again, mister "I'm not looking back" is also rehashing tracks that were recorded years ago. And previously he released a video of the first twenty minutes from a concert from a year and a half ago, and all of the songs they played were thirty years old. Yet expanded and remastered editions of his classic 1980s output are not on the table.

You complain about Prince's music too much. You should just give up on listening to His music. Why keep on listening if you don't appreciate his output anymore?????

Yay, flop album number 4, in basicaly one year, is sort of on the market! Has PRINCE ever released 4 flop albums in a year? Way to harness the power of the internet, as ONLY YOU can Prince!

#PrinceArmy rolls forward, baby!

Stuck that OLIVE BRANCH right in Warner's eye just 4 days after announcing you'd offered it! WHODAYPLAYINWIT??? You??? Definitely not you, right?? HELLNAW, you aint groveling, to THEMAN, to do NUTTINFO' YA! biggrin

Glad he got this album out of his system. Maybe now, he can get over himself and get back to the business of remasters and outtakes.

Can we let BVH do these things? You're not very good at it.

Not literally the same music but the same kind of instrumentation and beat -- I noticed that too.

I very much like all of the tracks that were not previously released.

This does feel more like a compilation, but that is just because half of the tracks are quite old.

BUT if he just kept the new 6 tracks and expanded from there, then this would have been a beautiful sounding album.

But overall this has a good feel and it's good to have previous releases bundled together just to tidy up the last couple of years.

lol lol lol lol

Man, am I late to the party... lol I guess this means there won't be a physical CD down the line to purchase? (I'm assuming the abrupt release of Phase 2 means that Prince couldn't find a profitable deal to do so--I may be wrong, of course.).

I'm really digging this album! With that said, this is just lazy... The sources for Groovy Potential and Screwdriver are the lossy internet files. The other track, I don't understand.

Bart's point is ridiculous. By putting out releases in different ways, he is not denouncing the album format. Prince will continue to release albums, individual tracks, live clips, underground remixes and whatever else gets his fancy, for the rest of his life. You would think after 40 years, 50+ albums, 100+ singles/remixes and dozens of side projects, his critics could at least work from an educated principle.

Plus, this "Hitnrun Series", isn't so much serious albums- its kind of a side project of odds n' ends and just for fun stuff--as a concept he can keep it going for years as a unique way of clearing the Vault. Cool.
