I really like the Phase 1 album (since day 1),

Phase 2 = big yuck... Baltimore gotta be 1 of his worst album-openers ever!

RnR LA & Screwdriver etc... no not my taste. The crappy remake of Xtralovable..

Unfortunately there's no track on this Phase 2 which I like at all.

Safe and middle on the road music, and very very boring.. neutral

They are two completely different sounding albums so I suppose it's only natural that they'd appeal to different people. I really didn't like phase 1. There were 2 or 3 songs I liked but the rest of them were awful. But, that could be because I don't listen to modern chart music and phase 1 sounds like modern chart music. If you like modern pop, then you'll probably like phase 1. My sister hates Prince. She hates everything about him but she likes phase 1.
In my opinion, phase 2 is his best album in years. There's only one song on it I don't love and that's Baltimore but it's growing on me. To me, this is a Prince album. Phase one felt like a modern day Prince knock off.

Also, I don't know if this has been mentioned, but is it just my imagination or is there actually 13 songs on this album? Around the 4 minute 20 seconds mark on Black Muse, does it change into a different song?

I think Prince tried to hard to sound current on Phase 1 and that's why it doesn't feel like a real Prince abum, I only enjoy 1000 X's and O's and June. I'm glad he released phase 2, this album is so good biggrin I don't care that some of the songs are a 2-3 years old cuz he always put older songs on new albums. The tracks on Lotusflow3r was from 2005-2008 for example

Well, I owe Miss Prince an apology for shitting on the album, "HitNRun (Phase 2)", that he released today. When I received the download and opened the folder, I noticed several songs had been released before. What I didn't realize until later, was that the tracks in the folder were in alphabetical order with the tracks from "ShitNRun (Phase 1)" combined. Some of the tracks from Phase 1, I had forgotten about because I lost them when my main computer died on me about a month ago and believe me, I didn't miss them whatsoever. Hell, I only skimmed them once or twice because they made me taste vomit in my throat. So as I skimmed through the tracks in what I downloaded today, I thought to myself...... "What the hell is this shit? He's all over the damn place from shit hop, to Fisher Price drum machines, to kiddie cheerleader sounding shit, to rock, to jazz. Boy howdy, this bitch is REALLY trying to sell out and play every end of the stick in hopes of making a sale.".....

.

Anyway, when I got ready to burn it onto a CD, I saw that the length of the entire thing was over 90 minutes and it was then that I knew something was wrong because he sure as hell can't sell a CD if all the tracks won't fit on it. I went online and saw the tracklisting for the latest and then realized they were in alphabetical order. I placed mine in the right order and burned only the newest one onto a CD and have been listening ot it on the stereo while I'm drinking my beer. I've got to hand it to him, at least the entire album is actual real music with not even one sellout track on it because I'm telling you, I was getting ready to drop Miss Prince like a hotcake if it was more bullshit. It's a little too "jazzy" but hell, I'll take jazz over shit hop any day. "Too Young To Dare" is the one I keep playing over and over. I'm loving that one. "Black Muse" is OK, I need to listen to that one some more but I keep going back to "Too Young To Dare". I'm also liking "When She Comes" and I need to listen to "Revelation" a few more times if I can ever stop listening to "Too Young To Dare". As for "Extraloveable", if I had never heard the original unrleased 1982 version, I would like this one. But this version reminds me of one of those fundraiser concerts that the rich attend and everyone is dressed in tuxedos and evening gowns and the artists don't perform with their own bands, but with a Vegas type house band. Another description, it gives me flashbacks of Donna Summer performing "Bad Girls" on Johnny Carson's "Tonight Show" with Doc Severenson and the show's house band. LOL

clapping I knew there would be somehting you would like. Yeah Phase 1 I havent listened to in months, this is a real return to form

Alright!

This is a very solid collection of tracks indeed!

I did like Phase One too, but this one has just made me realize how much I have missed a grown up Prince (in the vein of Old Friends 4 Sale, The Truth, etc.)

BTW: I'll buy it when it's on Google Play or in the shops smile

I liked about 60 % of HnR1 (which has three tracks I always skip: Million Dollar Show, Ain't About to Stop and Thiscouldbeus, plus Shutthisdown. Like a Mack and FILT have parts I wish were edited or fixed), but this one I like entirely except Screwdriver doesn't really fit though I like the song (always did).

Even Xtralovable (which I bought something like four times now) is great -- while I love the original, I never had it in good quality so the reloaded versions at least sound great especially with the horns he has added in the two last versions.

It's a horny album done right with better arranged and better mixed brass instrumentation that complements rather than overpowers the other instruments.

All the tracks I heard before are some of my favorite from the last few years, but tweeked with touches that make sense and sound lush (Baltimore/RRLA/Groovy Potential in particular).

The tracks I wisely chose not to seek (note: people sent me links and would you believe I did not hit play?) sound great though I will need a few more days to properly assess them and say if I love or just like them. 2y2d, When She Comes, Black Muse, Revelation and Big City already sound better to me than almost any track on 3121, Planet Earth, MPLSound and 20TEN.

Overall, HNR2 sounds like TRC decided to throw a block party on a Saturday night. I don't agree that Hardrocklover, 1000xs/os and June would fit here -- those are great songs but they're just too digital for this album and would only lessen the cohesive feel the tracks have (again save for Screwdriver, which sticks like a sore thumb right now to my ears).

HNR1 was a 6.5 to me, HNR2 is more like a 8.0 (as a modern Prince record).

You may like or hate Prince's recent output. The guy relased 4 albums over the course of 14 months. And I like about 80% of the songs. HitnRun phase1 suffers the most from, what I consider, filler.

Yes, perhaps he could have made just one album with hitpotential or "stellar" music. We will never agree on what these songs will be.

I can can only enjoy things for myself...not for any other. Groovy Potential is in my opinion his best song in a decade...I love it and I'm glad it finally found its way on an album. But I'm sure there are many that will wholeheartedly disagree.

I just hope Prince wil continue as he does. Four albums in one year, is better that 1 in 4 years.

6 albums if you count the Allo/Prince acoustic set and the Judith Hill project.

Great analogy, I'm also getting a TRC vibe. Some of these new/unreleased tracks are top quality.
.
When She Comes is liked Satisfied Part II with a Parade twist.
.
Revelation is simply stunning - his vocals, classy music with smooth horns and nice bit of guitar
.
Love the laid back groove of Look At Me, Look At U. That voice again and the Ray Charles and Stevie mentions are clichéd but make me smile.
.
All is forgiven for Phase 1 Mr Nelson.

Black Muse is a fave of mine too

I have issues with lyrics tho sometimes...

Black Muse
can I talk to you
what I got to share
is mighty good news
a brand new day is dawning
U and me know what to do
so much work to do

Black Muse
we've been so abused
our mothers work-a-looking??
and our fathers work too.
if they don't stay together
we can walk no better in these shoes
Black Muse

long ago 2 men held one of us down
another took a whippin'
the terror sound??
a baby watch her father
falling down to the ground
that was you...and me.

Black Muse
can I share with you
just came this morning
and it's mighty good news
they tipped the hour glass
now everything is past
it's true...

they gave the world back to u and me
the faces on the mountains
and the dirty sea
a trillion dollar bill
and no currency
still will we believe

Black Muse
we gon' make it thru
surly people that created
rhythm and blues
rock & roll and jazz
so u know we're built to last
it's cooool, it's cooool, it's cooool
black muse

a new day is coming
black muuuse
a new day is dawning
black muuuse

now that I got your attention
I think its 'bout time I mention
the reason why i wrote this song
like a UFO sighting
from my heart I am writing
the next close encounter
well, tell me how long
will it be on land or near the water
will it produce the star
of a black moon daughter??
or a pillow covered with all our tears
one thousand light years away from here
one thousand light years from here

no yesterday or tomorrow
no better remedy for sorrow
then why the fifth held forever
will make you cry
I don't know why

one thousand light years from here
one thousand light years from here

two unbroken circles
joined together
make a butterfly
little darling
don't u wanna try
there ain't nothing better than
looking for me and seeing u in the mirror
one thousand light years away from here

why do we always seem so far away
when u know I really
wanna be with u night and day
running out of ways tibsay how
so I think I'll just close for now.

Anyone care to help me out with this stuff...anywhere?

Love how he seemingly goes a bit off the deep end near the end....nice and crazy...I like it.

Very uplifting... Makes me feel good about the future. Sure did have a lot to say here...

Revelation

Revelation.....
Revelation.....

Its coming back to me now
You and I were meant to be together
And how

Revelation...
Revelation...

It seems like you've always been here
Now that you are
Stay with me forever my dear

Revelation...
Revelation

If ever, if ever there was ever
such a thing as time, oooh babe
It's useless,
so useless to me now
for in your arms is everything
in your arms
everything

An army of haters one by one
will do what they will to everyone
but the task at hand until we see the sun
is to keep doing you
until you come
to
Revelation...

Revelation ....

Can I play with you now...
Can I, can I play with you now....

It's all coming back to me know
Like it was deep in the ocean
I beat my sword into a cloud
Shared a heavenly potion
Future queen
Half east half west
The truth somewhere
Blessed in between

Through english glamour casting spell

through hebrew greek and roman hell
higher to the overstand
the color of the pharohs hand
the color of the pharohs hand
the color of the pharohs hand

[Edited 12/12/15 21:06pm]

i think that should be "I beat my sword into a plough", as in, turning a mean of fighting/war

back into a productive tool.

they used to melt ploughs and beat them into swords in times of war. so i'm sure they'd do
the reverse when the fighting was done and people went back to their daily routines.

and true love lives on lollipops and crisps
