Well, I owe Miss Prince an apology for shitting on the album, "HitNRun (Phase 2)", that he released today. When I received the download and opened the folder, I noticed several songs had been released before. What I didn't realize until later, was that the tracks in the folder were in alphabetical order with the tracks from "ShitNRun (Phase 1)" combined. Some of the tracks from Phase 1, I had forgotten about because I lost them when my main computer died on me about a month ago and believe me, I didn't miss them whatsoever. Hell, I only skimmed them once or twice because they made me taste vomit in my throat. So as I skimmed through the tracks in what I downloaded today, I thought to myself...... "What the hell is this shit? He's all over the damn place from shit hop, to Fisher Price drum machines, to kiddie cheerleader sounding shit, to rock, to jazz. Boy howdy, this bitch is REALLY trying to sell out and play every end of the stick in hopes of making a sale.".....

.

Anyway, when I got ready to burn it onto a CD, I saw that the length of the entire thing was over 90 minutes and it was then that I knew something was wrong because he sure as hell can't sell a CD if all the tracks won't fit on it. I went online and saw the tracklisting for the latest and then realized they were in alphabetical order. I placed mine in the right order and burned only the newest one onto a CD and have been listening ot it on the stereo while I'm drinking my beer. I've got to hand it to him, at least the entire album is actual real music with not even one sellout track on it because I'm telling you, I was getting ready to drop Miss Prince like a hotcake if it was more bullshit. It's a little too "jazzy" but hell, I'll take jazz over shit hop any day. "Too Young To Dare" is the one I keep playing over and over. I'm loving that one. "Black Muse" is OK, I need to listen to that one some more but I keep going back to "Too Young To Dare". I'm also liking "When She Comes" and I need to listen to "Revelation" a few more times if I can ever stop listening to "Too Young To Dare". As for "Extraloveable", if I had never heard the original unrleased 1982 version, I would like this one. But this version reminds me of one of those fundraiser concerts that the rich attend and everyone is dressed in tuxedos and evening gowns and the artists don't perform with their own bands, but with a Vegas type house band. Another description, it gives me flashbacks of Donna Summer performing "Bad Girls" on Johnny Carson's "Tonight Show" with Doc Severenson and the show's house band. LOL

Andy is a four letter word.

I really like the Phase 1 album (since day 1),

Phase 2 = big yuck... Baltimore gotta be 1 of his worst album-openers ever!

RnR LA & Screwdriver etc... no not my taste. The crappy remake of Xtralovable..

Unfortunately there's no track on this Phase 2 which I like at all.

Safe and middle on the road music, and very very boring.. neutral

no problems here.

I'm listening to it now and i gotta say that I'm digging the heck outta it. I thought phase one was good, but phase two is much more to my liking.

Big City, Revelation, TY.TD. Nice. I'm gonna take time to digest it all, but phase two could be the most enjoyable(for me) Prince album since 3121. Even though some of the songs have been previously released.

Go on ahead and do your thing Prince...

Oh, and i gotta say this. We're all entitled to our opinions about Prince's recent musical output, but some people seem to never be happy with anything.

Take a chill pill and try to enjoy the ride.

Official press release from Tidal:
PRINCE DROPS SURPRISE NEW OPUS, HITNRUN PHASE TWO, AVAILABLE NOW ON TIDAL

EXPANSIVE COLLECTION OF SONGS FEATURES THE NEW POWER GENERATION AND WAS IN THE MAKING FOR 3.5 YEARS

Multi-platinum music icon Prince has surprised fans globally with the unexpected release of a new 12-song album, HITNRUN PHASE TWO. The expansive collection of songs, many featuring his super-group The New Power Generation, appeared exclusively on TIDAL today at 9AM ET. The album was meticulously crafted over a nearly four-year period – gradually adding songs until the sequence was perfected and ready for release. A 16-member horn section is featured throughout the album, combining Prince’s NPG HORNZ and Minneapolis’ HORNHEADS, the latter a frequent addition to his larger studio ensemble.

Prince’s quintessential songwriting and inimitable vocal abilities are on full display in songs such as “ROCKNROLL LOVEAFFAIR,” “LOOK AT ME, LOOK AT U,” “WHEN SHE COMES,” and the breath-taking ballad “REVELATION.” Also included in the sequence is the protest song “BALTIMORE,” which received rave reviews upon release earlier this year. NPR’s Ann Powers noted: “BALTIMORE is truly a Sly protest – that is, in the style of Sly and the Family Stone, specifically the band's early, joyful, genre-obliterating anthems like "Everyday People." At its peak, "BALTIMORE" presents itself as a new "Dancing in the Streets” – a song that offers a brand new beat in the name of real change.”

HITNRUN PHASE TWO was recorded fully in analog, giving it a lushness and human quality that defies the current computer-driven trend prevalent in practically all popular music today. PHASE TWO follows on HITNRUN PHASE ONE, released September 7th, 2015 to widespread praise. Entertainment Weekly described the album as “an invigorating, eclectic modern pop record… equal parts hedonistic arena rock, chugging funk, and art-mutated pop.”

For those who know and love Prince's past work – his otherworldly musicianship and obvious respect of the craft – HITNRUN PHASE TWO will be a very welcomed addition to the collection; a gift to Prince’s Purple Collective and an instant standout in his already unparalleled 38 album catalog.

4 those keeping count, that’s FOUR Prince albums in the past 2 years! Those people dissing the songs as "old songs" we know already, keep that in mind...and yes we know them cause we are ALL fans enough to stay on top of all the purple fun (we 're here aren't we?) ....HEY everytime he dropped a new jam on us, we said "when is that going to be on an album?"...well here it...its great. Just enjoy damnit.

On first listen (a lot of which was heard before) of this piece-meal collection, what's missing is passion, conviction, urgency, and soul. Get back to the basics, Prince. You know how to do it. Let it loose.

Phase 2 is ok, but I enjoy Phase 1 more. The tracks that were singles over the last few years could've been left off for some unheard music. I'd keep Stare and Revelation and hoped Prince added FreeUrSelf. Waiting on Phase 3 in 6-8 months.

a) Happy to have a new Prince album in 2015

b) It is a good album. Good sounds, very cohesive

c) I'm happy Prince seems to have closed the "see me I'm good as '80. I have a great past!": the "plastic" Prince from Musicology to 20ten was -sorry - often boring

d) I think this way to release songs is better for him. I'm not waiting for the next Purple Rain. I want to hear Prince music, any kind of Prince music. Better if I can choose. I really love the Chaos & Disorder - NEWS era, because he relesed a *lot* of *different* works. There was no masterworks? It is not a problem. The masterwork is an obsolete conception. AOA, Plectrum Electrum, HINTRUN 1&2... not counting Oui Can Luv, well thank you. From dubstep to rock, from gospel to jazz in 2 years.

e) Free Urself and If I Could Get Ur Attention are still "free". Maybe a Phase III with the "Lovesexy" cover we can see in Twitter account? And what about the Phase IV with the Purple Rain icon? A remaster?

f) All the news songs are interesting. Black Muse and Big City are very very mature songs. Rich of sounds, colors, change of rhythm and a big vision.

g) Detractors of this period maybe have lost the sense of the measures . Prince has made some promises and has incredibly maintained. There are those who still is licking the wounds of Crystal Ball II and Roadhouse Garden. Here we had four operas in two years collecting interestingly though discontinuous work that Prince is doing. If you do not like , maybe you do not like Prince today. Is not a crime, happens. I dislike a lot the Musicology/20ten era (3121 over all), so it happens.

h) it seems "The Vault Old Friend 4 Sale Phase II"

Not sure what the folks complaining about cohesion are on about.

Horns throughout, organic drums (opposed to the plastic sounds of H&R p.1) and a soulful sound makes for a solid album, regardless of how long it took to make or that we've heard a lot of the songs before.

If ppl heard that 2Y2D was a Revolution outtake, everyone would be salivating. That's the bias that's pervasive about the org. Most ppl mentally check-out when they hear so-called new material but cream themselves when garbage from the 80s vault leaks (and believe me, they're NOT all good).

Good on Prince. New album. Good sound. And much more listenable than H&R pt. 1

You may like or hate Prince's recent output. The guy relased 4 albums over the course of 14 months. And I like about 80% of the songs. HitnRun phase1 suffers the most from, what I consider, filler.

Yes, perhaps he could have made just one album with hitpotential or "stellar" music. We will never agree on what these songs will be.

I can can only enjoy things for myself...not for any other. Groovy Potential is in my opinion his best song in a decade...I love it and I'm glad it finally found its way on an album. But I'm sure there are many that will wholeheartedly disagree.

I just hope Prince wil continue as he does. Four albums in one year, is better that 1 in 4 years.

They are two completely different sounding albums so I suppose it's only natural that they'd appeal to different people. I really didn't like phase 1. There were 2 or 3 songs I liked but the rest of them were awful. But, that could be because I don't listen to modern chart music and phase 1 sounds like modern chart music. If you like modern pop, then you'll probably like phase 1. My sister hates Prince. She hates everything about him but she likes phase 1.
In my opinion, phase 2 is his best album in years. There's only one song on it I don't love and that's Baltimore but it's growing on me. To me, this is a Prince album. Phase one felt like a modern day Prince knock off.

Also, I don't know if this has been mentioned, but is it just my imagination or is there actually 13 songs on this album? Around the 4 minute 20 seconds mark on Black Muse, does it change into a different song?
