Naw I didn't say that D'Angelo "never written anything memorable" but they are few in far between his mumbly indistinguisible tracks that fill his LPs. His latest album sounds like a bunch of work in progress demos. It's all style and groove and no songcraft. I'll take Prince's worst album vs. "Black Mess"

LOL. I don't get "great enjoyment" listening to 20ten or HNR. I get bored and my finger gets twitchy for the skip button. I was trying to look at it objectively. I am wise enough to know just because I think something is utter shite it might still be a work of art and/or have some value. Something that is utter shit or "lousy" to go with the thread's theme is Kevin Federline's album, Andrew Ridgely's solo album, Carmen Electra, Chunky A, Deon Sanderss' album, etc... you know truly awful music with no rdeeming value. Prince has just released stuff that is subpar. It's not really terrible music. It's just uninspired. Still the singing is likely good, the bass part, the guitar solo, etc...

Right on. No he peaked in the 80s and that stuff is hard to live up to. Yes we should hold him to a higher standard but sometimes I think -and I speak for myself- that this standard has caused me to not enjoy so much of his work. Sorry I misread your initial post. It's clear now that what you're saying is even his more lackluster albums are bottom of the barrel shit like so much commercial baggage. Agreed. He has albums that suck and suck hard, but they're not cultural crimes against humanity like some of the crap you mentioned.

Despite "Head" being a great track, "Dirty Mind" is pretty weak. The Madhouse albums are kind of thin, too. Also "Kamasutra." I can't leave out "Planet Earth," either.

I agree. I love everyone of Prince's albums, yes some more then other. But I always know when Prince releases an album it will not be like the last or Past. It's always something new and different and sometimes experimental. I love this about Prince. His genius is my drug. And I'm always wanting more and more and more.

BUT Kamasutra and NewPower soul were both lousy albums, although one is muzak and the other is credited to the New Power Generation.

Most are good, great or the best things ever recorded, otherwise why would we all be fans of him. Hitnrun Phase2 is Art Official Age Part2 and its restored my opinion of him more after the slight disappointnment of phase 1.
