You'd think this assertion was wrong the way some of us criticize shit we don't dig BUT....

I know we all have our favorites and may dislike some of the projects but can we honestly say the man has put out a truly lousy album? There isn't any single album that I honestly think is crap. I would say he's done some average for the industry type albums and contractual fillers but not lousy.

This doesn't apply when it comes to "associated artists". If the artist has negligible talent (TC Ellis, Mayte, Carmen Electra) it don't matter who writes and produces it.

HitnRun is the only album I consider bad (lousy, crap).

Prince has infinite talent at his fingertips and HitnRun is so beneath him, imo.

I really scratch my head over that one. I should like it since it's basically him doing his 80s sound but something just doesn't click. The songs just aren't that great. Still I wouldn't call it lousy, just mediocre.

true. but a lot of his later albums suffer from a bad start or a bad/non end.

like

come: way too long first track, ends on orgasm [love the album though]

newpowersoul: shitty opening track, 'ends' on shitty track, then whoops great hidden track. [couple great tunes on it though]

Mplsoud: 2 really bad tracks to open with, after that too many ballads

20Ten: shaky start (compassion), doesn't really end, just fizzles out and then whoops a hidden track (some great songs though)

AoA: silly opening track and too many ballads in the middle [still good album]

HnR: non prince vocal opening track. too many remixes.



other albums that i like less, like, say "musicology" have decent tracks to
bookend the disc, and thus they feel more like albums to me, if that makes
sense at all.

his sequencing just seems a bit off and his choice of what to include or what
to leave off.

he's still got tons of good tracks just seems to have a bit of a hart time with

the sequencing of cohesive albums these days.

I'd agree he never made an album with at least two good songs, but on the whole he definitely made some albums that were lousy for him.

Well He's only human so that answers that lol, I can't think of ONE single artist that has made 30+ PERFECT albums... That would b super creepy...

News, Xpectation, C-note, newpowersoul, For U, Rave Unto and Into, and MPLS are lousy albums to me. I agree that most albums are decent but he has stinkers. It will be different to everyone as everyones taste is different. Some people may really love these album but I hate them. HitNRun Phase 1 is one of my favorites and most people here hate that one so it s subjective. Most of his albums are very good to great though.

20Ten is one of my favs. People are sleeping.

Hate to be a stick-in-the-mud, but I think Hit N Run qualifies as a lousy album. Probably the only one of the standard Prince albums I'd say that about.

I don't think he's made a completely lousy album. There are indeed some lousy songs on each album, but there are always a gem or two to make up for it.

NEWS and PLanet Earth are the ones I never listen to at all so I'd put them in the "lousy" category. ALthough, in the case of NEWS, it's probably more a matter of taste then plain old terrible music.

There's usually two or three songs I can go to that keep the albums from being total wastes but, man, PLanet Earth is just...dull.

I agree. PLANET EARTH is the most boring Prince album of all time... First album I listened to and got bored with.

I was very disappointed in NPS and Rave and have not been able to revise my opinion on them.

I haven't have a problem with his output since, really. I agree that the NPGMC releases aren't good either, but I'm not sure if I'd even include those in his official discography as albums in the same sense as SOTT, or whatever.

Tons of worse albums imo. I personally think half the tracks are pretty damn good. No huge classic or anything, but beats most of what I hear today. And I actually like some of the music out there today also.
