Prince's career has taken a nosedive, is he desperate now

Well Prince can fill a stadium and play live no problem...

Talking albums though... Prince's career is running badly.

I don't have the figures for Art Official Age and Hit N Run.

But..... Prince is selling zero copies, afaik...

Can it get "any worse"?

Is he desperate, or does he have a plan.....?

Take a guess, what do you think will happen in the near future, has he given up.. question

Well, considering the zero promotion for AOA and Hitnrun (apart from a few interviews for the latter) I would think he just doesn't care.

If he does indeed become desperate he will announce a big tour where he will play the hits for the last time, or start releasing the remasters.

I genuinely thought, a couple of years ago, when he did New Girl and the Arsenion show, as well as dueting with Janelle Monae and Rita Ora that he was trying to get back in the game, but it didn't really pan out.

Anyway, he jsut released (for 12 hours!) Oui Can Luv, which I'm really enjoying, so I'll go back to that now lol

Nobody is really selling records anymore let alone an almost 60 year old rockstar with 30+ years under his belt.

I think Prince only cares about getting paid upfront for each album he releases by any distribution outlet, whether it's TIDAL, Target or the Daily Mirror. I also think Prince wants to have commercial success but wants to do it on his terms. He is not willing to do what other artists that either top the charts or have high selling albums in this day and age like shoot a music video, allow his videos and performances to be on YouTube, interact with his fans genuinely and give advanced notice of his albums and shows-all of these things have to be coordinated well in advance of the release of an album in this day and age. After all its the business of music and for P, that means purse for him as opposed to satiating fans meaningfully with promotion that gives fans what they want.

Well for one thing I see orgers haven't given-up in the weekly Prince is over and done thread.

Sad beatdeadhorse

And very disconnected from reality, too.

He's definitely not financially desperate. Musically? I'm sure he'll keep throwing things at the wall until something sticks. I'm not sure he's able to stop making music. He'll be in his 70s doing his thing.

My main knock on Prince has been this strange relationship he's had with hip-hop. If he likes Kendrick Lamar why not collaborate? It doesn't make sense. A move like this can be done without feeling desperate.

He could have had Jay-Z Throw a verse on an 1000 xs and os remix (same music. Sit down, josh). What hip hop station wouldn't play that ad nauseum?

There's also the Vanguard option.

He has choices. Any musical desperation is a self-inflicted wound that won't do him much harm anyway. With that said, he seems like he would scan a site like this just to cross ideas off of his list.

Personally, I'd love to hear an all vocal project crafted with the help from none other than Bobby McFerrin. It could be a short LP (runtime- 31 min 21 sec). It's intro could be an extended cut of For You. Light guitar work could also be sprinkled in if necessary. Tentative title of project: The Voice of Truth.

It would not be the org without at least one or two weekly threads of Prince is done and over.

I bet they did. I also bet it's embarrassingly bad.

Lianne La Havas did some interviews over the Summer and in at least one of them she told how she would only send some of her music to Prince, because she knew what his reaction would be towards the music she didn't send. Isn't that sad?

Why u all up in dude's pocket's? lol....

All jokes aside, nobody with any ounce of sanity is worried about Prince not moving records...Same way they not worried about Paul McCartney's low album sales for his last album....

Like for real...can we give posts about album sales as it pertains to Prince a rest? In 2015 u can count on one hand the artists moving actual albums....

Prince is a legacy act now who stll has a foot in pop culture world's consciousness (hence the write ups about something as trivial and light as dude posting on Instagram...)

In other words, it ain't that serious....

Define "failing" or "going nowhere". I dont see how that applies to Prince who has been the business since 1978-9, or even before that before getting signed.

^ Yeah. And this isn't even specifically about Prince. His status is beyond the tradition musician. At this point, he's a "professor emeritus" of the music industry. He still pulls in royalties. But he works for for himself, so his career isn't something that can be define by album sales or chart position.

Honestly, if Prince was somehow desperate it might be a good thing, musically. But really, think about comparing the musical output of a truly desperate teenage to mid-20s prodigy to that of an established statesmen who chose to buck the system 20 years ago. In that sense, he's been "unemployed" for decades.

At this point, he's FREE. But admittedly, too much freedom isn't always good when it comes to musical output. I'm shocked at 2 things: 1. The fact that he even has the drive to make music. 2. The fact that even with his latest efforts, his age has never been the target of any scrutiny. It sounds like he wants to recapture his youth. I don't think he can do that without finally truly embracing hip hop. Box o' Choco-shits, much like most of Tony M's work, was embarrassing. Tony was never a better rapper than P. Q-Tip obviously is, but he was put into a position to fail.
