There's a lot of truth to this but I wouldn't want it any other way except wish that he make his music more accessible to the masses. Suffering and unhappiness are the reason his best/my favorite songs were composed.

Where's the like button? This is what I'm talking about. If he's going to do a song like that, just do it with an artist that will actually move the needle. Or at least give the song a chance and release a video. The girls are beautiful. Another example, is FIL2N... When I heard that I was wishing he had just done remix video with David Guetta (no worse than josh). Would I like it any better? Of course not. But he definitely would get 100 million hits on YouTube. Then he can just ride the wave from there. At the end of the day, I honestly think we're seeing Prince's musical mid-life crisis as opposed to actual desperation.

Last year:
Prince lands two concurrent chart-topping debuts as Art Official Age crowns Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums, while Prince & 3rdEyeGirl's Plectrumelectrum awards the musician his first No. 1 on Top Rock Albums. Art Official Age arrives with 51,000 copies sold in the week ending Oct. 5 (according to Nielsen SoundScan), logging Prince his sixth No. 1 on the list, and first in five years.
The rock-driven Plectrumelectrum debuts on at No. 1 Top Rock Albums with 23,000 copies sold.
The dual-chart showing is the first time an artist has posted two different No. 1 titles on both lists in the eight-year history of the Top Rock Albums chart.

He can literally do whatever he wants, whenever he wants, where ever he wants. If that's not the definition of "greatest career ever" then I don't know what is.

^ Got to agree.
I don't see him trying hard for the charts, so I fail to see any desperation.

in fact this thread is all about the OP's constant need for drawing negative attention and has nothing to do with prince's career.

Ok... I agree to the point that this thread was bad timing.. Prince 4Ever.

As the kids would say "Girl Bye" It wouldn't be the Org without something about how Prince sucks and all that.... I mean shit guys why are y'all even here if he's so over now? It's the reason why we still get news about Prince. ..it's because despite him being an well known asshole (he is, there's no cure) he's still revered and respected in the music industry. Hell if we take the 'its Prince" aspect out of HitnRun, it's a fun album he's experimenting with modern sounds. He's going to fail at some things (thigh highs and thongs, rapping, trying to make his dances happen) but with each failure he moves forward and tries something else. Let's be real here, if Prince kept reliving his peak point of Purple Rain he'll be in the heap of forgotten 80s memorabilia along with Neon, Madonna's youth, and Vanitys relevance. He lasted 37 years because he changes constantly for better or worse, his mind won't let him be stuck in the past like some y'all I Just Came To Dance and Shade for Yall

Has anyone cited an example of Prince doing something that seemed desperate?
Prince had a sweet deal with Tidal, fans complained saying they wanted a CD. Prince had to start re-negotiating the "exclusive" part of his deal, a CD was rushed out and nobody bought it. Proving once again the worst thing Prince does is pander to fans.

Even if/when he does release the remaster, 'fans' here will hate it & cite that it's not enough or it wasn't mastered properly & continue their b!tchfest about what should have been.

So am not the only one who thinks some people here are waiting for the remaster of PR to come so they have another excuse to shit on Prince, hoping it sounds crappie and saying the original sounds better. [Edited 11/9/15 13:03pm]

So now its suddenly a "bad" thing for a Prince fan to wish for the Purple Rain 2cd remaster... Prince 4Ever.

thedance said: So now its suddenly a "bad" thing for a Prince fan to wish for the Purple Rain 2cd remaster... Exactly this. I'm astonished at the arseholery of some posters. We were told a Purple Rain remaster was on the way, it was not unreasonable then to look forward to that and it is not unreasonable now to want it to finally appear. "Desperation"? No,desperation would be Prince doing a song with Jay Z.,or Prince doing a song with Beyonce.Remastering one of his classic albums (and adding bonus material)is NOT a sign of him being "desperate".That album is part of his legacy....what's the harm in celebrating it?

Exactly. The Purple Rain remaster was promised to us,and we're expecting it.We're excited about it.But now that Prince is dragging his heels with it,some fans are trying to downplay the project, and act like it's not really important anyway....lol....some of y'all are hilarious

No, Prince didn't "renegotiate" his deal with TIDAL, nor was the CD "rushed" out. The same week as the initial announcement of the TIDAL deal, Prince said to reporters at the NABJ gathering he had at Paisley Park that a physical release was coming, people just ignored him (also the billboard TIDAL put up in Times Square mentioned the physical release date alongside the streaming premiere date).

Only thing that happend in 2004 was that Prince actually toured and acted like a professional for a while anyway. It didn't take long though before he was twice sued, evicted from his home, behind on taxes... I mean sheesh! Musicology flopped, even after he forced it's purchase on ticketbuyers coming to see him play a greatest hits tour. He ended up with ZERO hits even he was omnipresent in the media like never before. WHAT HAPPENED IN 2004 BESIDES A PROFESSIONALLY PLANNED AND EXECUTED TOUR?????

Please explain how this would be desperate in comparison to working with Curly Fryz, Rita Ora, and Josh? Why wouldn't it just be efficient? I respect Prince's musical merit, but can we stop acting like he didn't perform in a thong to get people to take notice? Do you want him to do that again? It's never been JUST about the music. For anyone.

I wonder if you guys ever stop the petty bitching and enjoy him for what he is. .....a musician. Before the fame, fortune, sales, acolades....he is musician. I Just Came To Dance and Shade for Yall

No I don't think Prince is desperate. I think he truely doesn't care. He makes the music for himself and I think he is genuinely trying hard to make his fans happy with all of the free music he is giving us and internet pressence pretty much just for us. He doesn't have to do anything at all but he has given us ALOT over the past two years. I think its his die hard fans who are desperate. For some reason they want him to be big like he used to be. I don't know why honestly. I would rather have heavy music output that noone but us knows about rather than one big album and promotion per year. I don't care if it is Purple Rain type quality or not. New music is new music. I enjoy getting it. HE will have stuff I like and stuff I don't. The thing I like is that he is putting it out there whether we like it or not. Its a fun time for me being a Prince fan. ITs too bad most of the fans here don't appreciate it. They seem like they would rather him just retire and not release anything. As soon as he does that though they will complain that he is not releasing anything. To me its the fans that are desperate, not Prince

Agreed. Some of these fans can't stand that Prince isn't the center of the music universe. So Prince doesn't sell a lot of records - who cares? We get new music and we get bootlegs and we get live performances. The glass is most definitely half full.

I don't care if he's selling lots of records, but what I do care about is that the new music you're referring to is mostly shit. You IMAGINE that Prince doesn't care about record sales because you don't. Prince has a twenty year history of bitching publicly about record sales and airplay. My point is that 2004 was a media comeback, not a musical comeback, even though he had a megaton of hype and goodwill within the indutry to drive the singles from Musicology.
