Riiiight. And me and Prince were running drugs from Paisley Park to keep Paisley Park from going bankrupt. I love how folks scream "homophobia" when their conjecture gets challenged and put into question. If someone yelled "this guy killed so-and-so" in front of police officers and because the guy might fit the description and gets arrested, then later tell the cops that he was only joking. Even if he's cleared, the guy will never be seen the same way again. It's cowardly and unethical but hey anything for the sake of a laugh, right? 3121 #1 THIS YEAR

But Boy told an off the cuff joke in a setting where he was expected to improvise. He really didn't do anything 'wrong', and it's actually difficult to come up with a scenario from this where he DID do something wrong. The homophobia part comes when people make the angry denunciations, complaining that the merest inference that Prince is anything other than 100% heterosexual is 'slander', and more. It's all very telling.

"Boy told an off the cuff joke in a setting where he was expected to improvise". If he was expected to improvise a joke then Boy George is also dim witted. What's interesting is that if Prince was in the same position he would have found a way to retort with a joke that was witty without name-dropping and casting aspersions on someone's orientation for the sake of a laugh at someone's expense. I guess Boy George figured since I can't get Prince in the same room as me, I'll make Prince's name appear in the same headline as me, since that's the only way, Boy George would ever make headlines nowadays. 3121 #1 THIS YEAR

The word "phobia" implies fear of...the people that speak against homosexuality arent scared of it...they just dont condone it for one reason or another...the word "homophobia" doesnt even apply to most people who disapprove of the lifestyle

I agree completely, Boy George was just having a bit of fun with a salacious joke, it's the fucking Daily Mail which is deliberately misleading people with the headline. I guess you could argue that they're merely replicating the manner in which the joke was told by first giving us the "I slept with Prince" shock comment before qualifying it later with "it was just a poster", but given that many people don't read past the headline, as others have pointed out here, this is irresponsible journalism at best. i need to borrow kcool's super eye roll for the homophobes in this thread. You guys need to listen to what JudasLChrist is saying and adjust your views on homosexuality. It's definitely on you to be more accepting of gays and not on Boy George to stop "casting aspersions".

Stop using the word lifestyle. Out of all the homophobic remarks that is the most insulting: you cannot refer to the nature of people as their 'lifestyle'.

When people can stop hiding behind terms like "homophobic" for crass remarks the world will be better for it. At this point, "homophobic" has become the new "Only God Can Judge Me". Whenever someone says or does something they have no business doing, the first thing that I will sometimes is "who are you to judge me", "only God can judge me" etc. Personal responsiblity is not a hetero or gay thing-it's a human thing. 3121 #1 THIS YEAR

a typo, thanks for picking up on it
You must have missed the thread last year when some d-list chick called Lil' Mo made an untrue statement about Prince at the Essence Festival and got dragged to within an inch of her life on her instagram. Did that happen because she was gay?

You have only proven my point. If a man regardless of orientation said something that wasn't true in the guise of a joke about another man, much worse would happen than caping for the man that said the joke. No point of arguing with you because regardless of what I say, you will turn your response into a GLAAD crusade for a guy who is a celebrity troll for press no matter how dishonorable it is. 3121 #1 THIS YEAR

Yeah... The way I see it, Boy George said, "I played with Luther Vandross" and then Paloma Faith said,"I played with Prince" and then Boy George thought, damn, I gotta say something to get the attention back to ME! And so he said what he said. It is all just a storm inside a glass of water. (As we say in Holland.)[img]

To say condemnation happens because of fear is to have a very vague understanding of condemnation and shows that someone can't see beyond their own convictions
