Ahhh yes...I remember bringing this video to school to show the homies(and homettes) in the T.V. in band class. The good ol days when u could buy parental advisory stuff w/o a parental. I see this poor 17 y/o get carded for a video game....flippin sad.

It's criminal that 3 Chains has never had a dvd release shite though it may be. That and all the other cassette only releases.

I agree, It's neither criminal nor sad, it's perfectly normal that there is no dvd release for promotional films for 20 year old albums that nobody (except a few orgers) remembers.

It was much appreciated though.

I'm too tired to type at length right now but *THIS* is my Prince album. If I could only have a single album of his with me, I think this would be it. It's one of those rare albums that I can listen to from beginning to end with little complaint. I think it's his last truly GREAT album and in it he creates his own wall of sound across a myriad number of styles. I loved this era at the time, as well.
The marketing was horrible, though, sadly. I think there were NUMEROUS potential hit singles here if it had been handled correctly.

I always thought it was mistake to release "The Morning Papers" (a decent but unremarkable tune) as a single. If they wanted a slower, mellow single, they should have chosen the excellent "And God Created Woman".

ready??? Can you all please delete those nude shots above? The Org shouldn't be NSFW. I started this thread to have some positive discussion of the Symbol album. I'd really like to avoid having this thread get killed, okay? "Drop that stereo before I blow your Goddamn nuts off, asshole!"

The marketing was for this album was no better or worse than for other Prince albums at the time. There were singles, videos, an appearance at Arsenio Hall, an American tour. Sexy MF was a big hit and was controversial for using the f word and then came the news of him signing that multi million dollar contract. So Prince was all over the media in 1992-93. People here often complain about Prince not promoting his album, but you can't say that about this one! But at the end of the day an album has to sell itself.

Fair point. Prince's fan base does reach further than this place though, I'm sure you're aware of that.

This was his fourth, and last (so far?) flawless album as far as I am concerned. It joins the ranks of Dirty Mind, Parade and Lovesexy as peaks in his genius. Awsome album. Not a bad song to be found.

Gold was his last flawless album for me, I love it on par with the Symbol album. Both only got one track that I skip (I Wanna Melt With U and We March). The fact Gold has Shhh and Billy Jack Bitch maybe just shades it.

LOL....have to agree there. I have a bootleg VHS of the tour and Tony M. is the worst rapper I have ever seen.

I remember getting this on cassette and CD when it came out, and listening the cassette in my Pontiac Sunbird with a classmate girl that I liked.

"7" is one of my favorite songs.

For me, if its got a skipper then it isnt flawless. TGE does have a skip or two which makes it a little flawed. Not by much though. I dont feel the need to skip anything on Symbol, DM, Lovesexy or Parade. All his other albums upto and including TGE have one or two skips. After that the skipping becomes more of a game of hopscotch than the occasional skip. With PE and MPLSound I am pretty much skipping the entire way through, and not in a happy skip-to-my-Lou kind of way...

Its peaks and valleys is part of its charm. Days of Wild definitely should have been on the album. Strangely, I think She Spoke To Me or When the Lights Go Down could have found a place on the album. Always cry 4 love, never cry 4 pain.

either answer is ok | |
