Isn't this the exact same factor that made the Lovesexy album - with the naked Prince - into a hit in Europe (#1 in the UK), but this factor also made it a failure in America.... some could not handle a nude pic.. (?)

i don't remember any penis anywhere

there is an erect orchid flower "penis" on the front cover...... wink cool

I watched 3 Chains of Gold a few days ago and didn't hide my eyes from the nudity. But I respect the fact that pornographic images shouldn't be shared on the Org. That concept isn't hard to grasp.

the naked body has nothing to do with pornography..... wink

-- and those pics from the Prince film... showing some women taking a bath... those pics aren't sexual.

You sure sounds like that religious nut Tipper Gore.... just like Dodger did mention above...

Look at the way you and others talk about those pics above. You keep referencing "pussy" and Mayte and the others being hot. Those aren't artistic depictions of the female body like in classical sculpture. They're gratuitous full frontal nude shots intended to be pornographic. Anybody with an ounce of sense can see that. And you and others confirmed it in your discussion about the pics. Have a good day.

Once again a half decent org thread is beginning to descend into semi chaos. Personally I had no problem with the photos that were posted. It's sticks and stones. This thread was started by Mr Sausage and as a result his decision not to have said photos posted should and has been respected. This is supposed to be about (imo) Prince's last great album. Let's get back on course.

Thanks.

One thing I love the most about Symbol is the strength of Prince's vocals. The only album that I think has better vocals overall is Emancipation. But Symbol is miles beyond Emancipation in terms of music and inventiveness.

yes sir...easily one of his 5 best albums ever...

some timeless songs on that album..

My Name Is Prince

Love 2 The 9s

Sweet Baby

And God Created Woman

The Flow

The Continental

Morning Papers

Arrogance

Damn You

even a reggae/pop song "Blue Light"

such a diverse album without sounding cluttered..."Love 2 The 9s" is magic, despite Tony M's attempt to ruin the song with that Booty Boom nonsense, and "what sign you are?"and,"how many books you read?" stupidity

Nothing like a little T & A. I saw Mayte up close once in 1997 at an aftershow and could not take my eyes off of her. She literally became TMBGITW. She made it easier to accept the reality that Larry Graham was there too. Although I met him once and he seemed like the nicest dude ever.

I've always liked the Symbol album, but lately it's grown to be one of my absolute favorite Prince albums. I love its wackiness, its variety, its sheer creativity. Every song is great. The segues are bizarre but dammit that's just part of the fun. Prince's vocals are top notch throughout. The production is warm, organic, and aggressive. The slow songs are great, the fast songs are great, the funk is great. Most importantly, the Symbol album might be the weirdest Prince era. Have you seen the 3 Chains of Gold video? Have you read the 3 Chains of Gold comic? His weirdness is absolutely stunning. [Edited 9/26/15 7:52am] [Edited 9/26/15 10:19am]

It is the pinnacle of everything. It has tonnes of reverb. It is prince

it's so good, he named himself after his own album. what with arranging all those lovesexy tours and spinning trampoline light shows I reckon he deserved a break after this one.

It is immense, all powerful, unknowing - plus it has a tonne of reverb on it, and a guitar riff that sounds like a Diet Pepsi commercial.

It is the best a man can get.

I bloody love prince

I always thought it was mistake to release "The Morning Papers" (a decent but unremarkable tune) as a single. If they wanted a slower, mellow single, they should have chosen the excellent "And God Created Woman".

The marketing was for this album was no better or worse than for other Prince albums at the time. There were singles, videos, an appearance at Arsenio Hall, an American tour. Sexy MF was a big hit and was controversial for using the f word and then came the news of him signing that multi million dollar contract. So Prince was all over the media in 1992-93. People here often complain about Prince not promoting his album, but you can't say that about this one! But at the end of the day an album has to sell itself.

I agree, the promotion was aggressive and very effective.I just think a few of the single choices were questionable.

The Three Chains O' Gold movie is really interesting and it sorta explains what the album is all about, but it should have been released around the time of the album.Didn't it come out in late '94?

This is the first Prince album I listened to and from then on until now, it has been my most favorite one.

I absolutely adore MNIP, 7, Sexy MF, Damn U and morning papers.

In fact the only song I can't stand in the album is " The sacrifice of victor", which I guess is hugely popular amongst people in this forum boxed

Yes, the usual bad timing - why release it 2 years after the album. Was a great time to be a fan though - seemed to be videos, maxi-singles, associated albums and albums being released every other week.
