Exactly - we'll see "Prince-only" albums relatively soon.

I have liked most new pop music on the radio better than 95% of Prince's best music for a long time. Excluding his 80's work of course.

I can't feel my face when I'm with youuuu, but I love it. But I love it. music

I think the problem with prince sounding so old fashioned and using an inexperienced kid is BECAUSE he doesn't listen to good new music. He has built a bubble around himself. Limited his exposure to music to only acts from his past.

And that pretty much sums most people here too. Especially those who say his new music is better than 95% of new music and get off my yard.

Anyone listening to music today would have immediately have hairs stand up in the back of their neck in shock of how bad and amateurish AOA and HnR sound without needing to read that an inexperienced 23 yr kid gave producing a shot. It was the elephant in the room before I even knew that. I made a thread about it because it was so obvious and nobody mentioned how amateurish it was. If you are sophisticated enough about music, which dare I say most of you are not, it's blatantly obvious how childish it is.

Folks keep blaming Josh. Prince put this out. This Prince album is worse than Chris Brown, Justin Bieber, Trey Songz, etc. Experiemental is "The Undertaker," "Xodus," "The Truth," "The War," "The Rainbow Children," etc. Even if you didn't like The Rainbow Children, it is respected for it artistry. This was pure lazy under the disguise of "experimental" and is far from art.

Exactly. Though perhaps it was also just the least expensive solution. For Prince to book time with A-List talents, he's going to have to pay their rate, where Josh was probably just glad to be in the room with Prince and knew his way around some software.

I think Prince's pre-Hitnrun music is still better than 95% of current popular music, but there's lots of good music you won't find on the charts.

I have no idea whether if Prince's turd smells better than other people's turds because regardless of who the turds belong to, they're all still shit. Since I don't have a shit fetish, I'm not going to take the time to sniff each turd to see which one smells better because I flush the toilet as soon as the turds drop so I don't have to smell them.

no.

That's something Prince fans tell themselves.

Prince's worst music is substantially bad enough to be considered among the worst of pop music in general.

However, his best stuff bests anyone out there. So, it's a mixed bag unfortunately.

Nope. Prince's worst music is still better than most people's best. His latest album is bad by his standards (5/10) but it's still ok.

Most 'musicians' would struggle with putting together a full length album that's even that good. Like anyone- even the sausage guy- you can probably convince yourself of being a good judge, but unless you're genuinely hearing and appreciating music across all different genres, then no don't presume. But if your point is most diehard prince fans only really listen to prince then i'm with you on that.

What makes you think people who dislike HnR (like myself) don't listen to music across a wide range of genres?

There is no answer to that question...

It`s all depends on what you listen to or exposed to.

The amount of music released each year is phenomenal and if you are a music lover, you will research and find what you like. I`m a Prince fan...but I`m also a Zappa, Bowie, Yello, Kraftwerk fan and listen also current musicians like The Irrepressibles, Amanda Palmer, Peaches... the list is far too long. But to give you an idea, I`ve got over 1000 cds and 15000 tracks on my Itunes library. I dont do charts "easy" music though.

There`s a great amount of music snobs on here and they think Prince is THE genius.

Prince is not the only one, thanks God!

And to finish HnR is not that bad, I find it quite refreshing compare to his input in the last 10 years, but hey it`s all depends on tastes...

Pretty much the same analysis as mine. But I really do have fun with HnR. Why? Because the collaboration itself brings something to the table which makes the songs quite enjoyable and even a little bit unique. Is it a masterpiece? Maybe not, but a great effort considering his age and works of the last decades.

What I can't stand at all is the snobbish attitude of Prince fans like it is shown in this thread. Prince is a great talent, no doubt. But: he also has quite a whole lot of weaknesses some people are not able or don't want to realise.

Wow... How can you make that statement just because you don't like AOA you feel people who like AOA aren't sophisticated listeners...

I don't like Planet Earth because it is BORING and as a sophisticated Prince fan, no Prince album should be BORING... But I never make a statement that the listerns aren't very sophisticated and appreciate music just because they like Planet Earth...

I like hardrocklover and Stare and the remixed tcbu because they had life missing on most of Prince's recent work. But that was missing from most of the album. Too bad Stare went missing too.

Stare? Remember this one as a quite uneventful, typical funk workout. I'm glad it's not on there.

Btw: The worst songs on HnR to me are 1000 Xs and Os and Like a Mack. This is somewhat typical 90s Prince I'm so tired of.

What do you mean by current? You mean commercial music. Prince must like it since he is now imitating it.

He used to gloat about how different he was. No more. Avant Purple is now bleak.

Believe it or not, I think he's a little more humble these days,

His remarks about Kendrick and Esperanza are wonderful, Prince used to seem so arrogant and celf-centered. He still says that when he wants "real funk", he calls Maceo, that personally he likes it analog and organic, but that doesn't stop him from appreciating what others do in the formats they prefer -- which seems to me the essence of maturity.

Yes, he long said "Real music by real musicians". He also declared the Internet dead, and in a recent interview reminded the journalist he changed his mind about that.

Well I was just reading an interview with Grace Jones and in it the journalist asks her about the title of her book, I'll Never Write My Memoirs. She spoke-sang she never would in a song back in the 80s.

Her answer was that she's allowed to change her mind.

The same goes for Prince and everyone else.

How on earth do you compare music like that?

Production quality? Some of my favorite albums have poor production, and that doesn't matter at all.

Musicianship? Prince keeps getting better, that's my impression based on for instance his live performances.

Poor melodies? Well, that is not to be compared, since it is a matter of taste.

I very much like the new Chris Cornell album, but does it make sense to compare it to HitNRun? I dont see how. And I don't see the purpose. I happen to enjoy some of the new Prince album - and at different times than I enjoy other music.
