I dig it, it's different than anything else he has released, and I am grateful for that aspect of it alone, now throw in the mostly great songs. Ain't About To Stop is the only tune that has yet to catch me.

hearing it, I don't know how I actually feel

except I keep asking. How is a 3 piece band going to play that?
AOA and HitNRun are not back to basics albums
They are not even traditional Prince band music for some reason.
The music gives me the picture of Prince out front with a sheer curtain(like Vanity 6)

between him and a 10 piece electronica band that he will need to render the music

He will just bust out the keyboard and sing over the sampled song, much like he has been doing lately in his sampler sets.

Listened to it once. Recognized how little Prince is on it and never even thought about listening to it again.

the same. the songs i love, i love:

Shut This Down

Ain't About 2 Stop

X's Face

HARDROCKLOVER

1000 X's & O's

June

the other songs, i don't care for/dislike. but because they make up

such a large chunk of the album, the whole thing doesn't feel like

an album to me and i'm confident that it never will. it's probably an

experimental move to include those remixes/old tracks/non prince

leads but for me personally it doesn't click. but these 6 tracks are a

really nice EP for now. and who knows, i might be able to add them

to other future tracks or albums.

Less, which is hard to believe because I already didn't like it.

Props to the people who like this, but I just can't so far. And I'm not gonna listen to it 20 times just to make it palatable.

That is the cream for sure, and don't mind the other tracks surrounding these. Plays nicely as a piece, and prefer the new version of TCBU. AOA version is more a proper song but would rather listen to this one because it's harder and darker. Overall, album is about a 7 for me compared to other Prince. Compared to the music world at large, it's at least an 8. Sure there are elements and tricks used by lesser contemporary artists on this but I would still know immediately that any of the tracks were Prince. His uniqueness and stamp are still all over them. Funky, fresh, nice variety and energy ... what's not to like you bunch of curmudgeons!? 1000 Xs and Os should be a major hit; it would be if Justin Timberlake released it (since radio would play it and he would promote it). But I am dying for extended versions of that song, X's Face, Shut It Down and Ain't Gonna Stop. Bring it ON!!!

Honestly i didnt even kno this was coming out. confused Been kinda outta the loop lately. I was on itunes and seen it on there lastnite. From what i heard I didnt really like any of the songs. I used to love the original A 1000 Hugs and Kisses, and when I heard the Xs and Os song didnt kno it was a redone version. I just found it ok. didnt love it. I thought Hardrocklover had a nice beat, and bass, like most Prince songs, but wasnt feeling the production/direction i guess. This Could B Us was kinda dope, but jus a remixed version. The others are were jus Nahhh. The beat would be bumpin but the lyrics would be all wrong, and the tone of voice.

yeah i've been wondering this as well. If he pulled it off with a live band (whether 3 piece or 6 piece I don't mind) i'd be more into it. Is he even interested in playing anything from it live though? There's always U Got the Look -> Cream -> Take me With U -> Raspberry Beret -> Cool to play...

It has grown on me more and more. I found the remix of FixUrLifeUp on my hard drive and, whilst it isnt anything earth shattering, it is tons better than FIL2N. So I replaced FIL2N with it and then deleted any trace of that blood clot of a song from my hard drive. Its a shame the same cant be done on the CD and I will have to live with the fact that FIL2N still has to be in my life.

Stranger

I was monumentally underwhelmed when I listened to it on Tidal last week and I shelved it after I could not get through a fourt listen. Had already pre-ordered the cd, got it on Monday and listened to it again on my commute this morning:

Million dollar show: It was meh then and it it still meh. It is Beyonce by Judith Hill and not Prince, with the most agonising chorus 'welcome to the million, mil , million dollar show'. I terminate this after milliseconds. The millisecond show I call it. As an opener it not only eclipses Compassion as worst opener but makes Compassion seem like a stellar track in comparison. Embarassing stuff.

Shut this down: Some funk elements in here, nice bass line but wasted on this stale, one dimensional rather embarassing retake of My name is Prince. Prince sounds like he could be anybody else. Or if this is Prince, then anybody could be Prince.

Ain't about to stop: Quite promising opening actually, but then he starts to to talk about minnie and innie and the 'ain't about to stop' dead robot shout chorus. It is all dead from then on. Sounds like it could be anybody else. Blææh.

Like a Mack: Sounds like anybody else etc...Sad, sad stuff.

This could be us: Finallly back in Prince-land! One of the weakest track from AOA further weakened by this mix, nice guitar though.

Fallinluvtonite: Let's not. It is too cheesy. It is a B-side of a b-side.

X-s face: THis could have been something but it is rather stale, monotone and quickly gets dreary

Hardrocklover: Finally something we can like. New sound, passionate, great guitar. We like. This is where the album starts for me.

1000 hugs and kisses: This is good stuff again, not fantastic, but good. would have been a likeable filler on an actual Prince album.

June: Good, but it sounds a bit contrived to me. Vocals on occasion very good though. Musically it does not entirely convince, a bit pretend-haunting if you know what I mean

Funk n' Roll started with "Dearly beloved we meet at last" - a reference to Let's Go Crazy (and getting his masters back into his arms).

And now, Prince's first words on Hitnrun -

"The rain, the rain, the rain..."

And his word's on June - "you don't understand now, but you will soon".

Most def grew on me... My two fav tracks are 'The X's Face' and 'Ain't About 2 Stop'. The remix of 'This Could B Us' is perfect, and the addition of the Purple Rain like piano part lifts the song, as well as the jam at the end. 'Hard Rock Lover' is awesome too, especially the sequencing/transition from 'The X's Face'.

I did receive the CD from Amazon today and glad the case arrived uncracked, though.
