Ain't About To Stop is good for dancing... (I guess, so... maybe you should show her? Most kids love to dance with their mom, right?),

It's been driving me crazy for weeks, but I finally realized what song The X's Face reminded me of: Low Rider by War. (The vocal delivery more than the music.)

I may be way off on this, but I'm glad I finally scratched that itch!

If I understand well "HITNRUN" will be released in three part - "Phase One", "Phase Two" and "Phase Three". Correct me if I'm wrong.

.

My question is only for the CD release (obviously not for digital releases): is there no risk that all three Phases will be released on separate CD and maybe after two or three months they will be released all together in a specially-priced box with possible bonus content)?!?!?

.

I mean, on various site "Phase One" has a full price, like a normal CD release....

I wouldn't want to be joked by some commercial trick.

HITnRUN is brilliant, worship

Prince's best in a long time, since TRC in 2001, imo...

Million $ Show
7/10 (Great energy, but I did cut off the For You/1999/LGC-intro for my iTunes playlist)

Shut This Down 8.5/10 (Also a great energy, I love the bass and drums on this)

Ain't About To Stop 9.5/10 (Warning, I LOVE THIS! So edgy, really this is FUNKY!)

Like A Mack 6/10 (Weakest song on the album, those lead vocals, hmm the song does not sound like a Prince song imho)

This Could Be Us 8.5/10 (I love both versions)

FallInLove2Nite 7.5/10 (I loved this pop song when it was released last year, it's ok not bad, but it sounds a bit thin maybe "dated" in production? Great finally to have this on an album though, yes)

X's Face 10/10 (already a Prince classic, brilliant, rather short though)

HardRockLover 9.5/10 (Great rock song, I love this deeply, yes its another classic)

Mr. Nelson 7/10 (Not a real song, more like a seague, but the guitar is amazing and sounds like Santana doesn't it?)

1000 X's & O's 10/10 (Maximum, much better than half baked outtake from 1992)

June 10/10 (Omg this is good, in the same league as Sometimes It Snows In April & Joy In Repetition, big words maybe, but the whole atmosphere in this song is brilliant, magical)

conclussion.. this new album is fantastic: woot! boogie heart

After more times listening to it I was thinking a thing.....

.

If it was a "Maxi-Single or EP" in the kind of the "Gett Off EP" and "Cream EP" probably I would have looked at it with less expectations and with more goodwill, even tought it is evidence for me that it is one of his worst achievement.

.

But folks this is promoted and sold as "The new Prince Album".

.

[Edited 9/11/15 8:12am]

But still, it is labelled as Phase One. So I think you should look at it as the first of a 3 CD set, like "Emancipation". The whole set will be raw, non very selected but with some very good material.

Uhm, now that I think about it, I'd like to see Phase 2 and 3 coming out together as a polished, refined selection with a clear and unique new sound....

... Well, I guess I'm always waiting for the new Sign "o" the Times...

Anyway, AOA was easy to enjoy, more immediate, but it didn't give me such good hopes.

I see your point, BmoreJazz.

.

The only thing is that I see more similarity with "Crystal Ball" (1998) than with "Emancipation".

.

"HITNRUN" have samples of old tracks, tunes from 2 or 3 years ago and remixes of already released tracks, just like "CB".

.

Anyway, I hope you're right and that Phase2 and Phase3 will be reedeming for the Phase1.

OK, late review as I wanted it to settle in a few days. I thought it was shit on Monday, but now I can't stop playing it.

1. Million$ - Can do without the first 35 seconds thanks. It doesn't fit, so I've removed it and now it's the best Beyonce song, she never released. Not sure if I want it be a Prince number - 6/10

2. Shut this down - Hated it on Monday, but then I found my headphones and car and now I love it. It's like P Control, with serious funk face bass spazz out at the end. Just needs a 'My name is Prince' sample to make it epic. 9/10

What's happened to m'font?

3. Aint about to stop - Apart from the first 30 seconds again, this is a grower, not a shower. Is he really saying he's got a rock star salad crusher? If so, I want me one of those. 6/10

4. Like a Mack - Love the bloop bloop, bloop bloop of the song, and if it wasn't Prince it would be great, but it is and i'm not sure - fun enough and super catchy 6/10

5. This could be us - Prefer it to the original tbh. I really like it minus the stupid voice effect and telephone blips ffs. Why are the last half of these songs so much better than the start? 7/10

6. Fallinlovetonight - The best Kylie song she never released. Not sure if I want it to be a Prince number 6/10

7. X's face - Nasty 7/10 Kinda like the banana skit

8. Hardrocklover - In 83 it'd be hardcocklover and everyone would be all over it like a wet flanel. It's great, but I don't know why it doesn't really grab me by the nuts. S'alright 7/10

9. Mr Nelson - Bloody love this, but why in the name of all that is purple, didn't he put this on the back end of clouds. He needs to sort himself out ffs. 8/10

10. 1000 hugs - Get the feck outta town. This is dreamy melty chocolate loveliness that I can't stop pouring over m'self. Never took much notice of the original, but this is in my top 10 Prince tunes, I love everything about it. 10/10 you purple pixie little genial feckin fucker you. lol

11. June - Love the vibe again, screwy dreamy and drippy, with great vocals. More of these please 9/10

So, I actually really like it after wanting to bin it on Monday.

But..... This would have been even better if he'd put the best of this with the best of AOA. Then we'd have something remarkable.

Josh - less is more son. See songs 10 & 11.

I'm really trying to find something I like in this album..

A few of the songs seem like they'd go over really well live.. i.e. HardRockLover

For an artist that preaches about "real musicianship", It's hard to find on this album compared to his other work.

The songs are short, uninspired & meaningless.. Sounds like Prince just bantering over some beats that Joshua threw together & layering some guitar & bass overdubs to give it some flare.

Welton's production doesn't come off as "experimental".. It sounds dated & cliche.

I'm gonna give it time & let it marinate.. But, as of now, this is one of my least favorite Prince Albums

If not his worst.. sad

"Phase II" is Prince forgets about the whole fucking thing.

"Phase III" is Prince whinging about Jay Z and the deal they made.

Not gettin my hopes up for any more "phases" is what I'm saying.

...

What a boring CD. 3 or 4 days in and I'm tired of it already. Unlike most Prince albums, there are no new things to discover here on repeated listens, even with headphones. Maybe it's because I've heard most of the songs (HRL, Xs Face, TCBU, FILT and "Mr. Nelson" which is basically "Clouds"). Track one is a throwaway and hardly even a song. That's half the damned record right there and the whole CD is pretty short to begin with.

It's not horrible but there's hardly any substance to it.

Before HitNRun came out I posted that I'd be happy with at least one great track on it. He gave us two with 1000 X'S & 0'S and HARDROCKLOVER. Slap me twice and call me Sally! Songs like that are why I'm a Prince superfan. And most of the rest of the album is icing on the cake.

It started at 6/10, then 7/10, now it's crept up to 7.5/10. (IMO)

When you look up "perfect mid-tempo R&B song" in the dictionary, you'll find 1000 X'S & 0'S.

And I love Prince's subtle background lines:
"Page one" before verse 1
"Turn the page" at verse 2

He so clever.
