All I have to say about this complete piece of Rubbish is that the only song worth listening to (1000 Hugs and Kisses) is a COMPLETE destruction of the original , which isone of those Prince masterpiece pop-songs, in the vein of I wonder and Manic Monday...

TOTAL CRAP record, far far worse then last year's two albums

I seriously believe Prince is just testing the waters with this album..

He tends to do that when he is tip toeing...

I believe once he feels safe, he will release an album that will catch us all by surprise...

bought my copy of HITNRUN at target in richfield yesterday. looked all over the electronics dept. for the CD but couldn't find it anywhere. in the distance, i saw a target employee approaching so waved him down to ask where the new prince release was.

.

as he approached me, i could see that he was holding a stack of the HITNRUN album in his arms and when i snatched my copy from his hands he explained that target had sold out of copies and he was replenishing the pile of new prince CDs giggle

I just got it from iTunes finally. I am shocked that I like it as much as I do. Certainly not a masterpiece and totally over-produced, but its an enjoyable, upbeat, booty movin little album. I needed this today as work has been a nightmare. It's definitely helping me through the day. Of all the songs the two I am not crazy over is Shut This Down and June. STD (HA!) gave me a headache. June is ok...it just doesn't really go anywhere.

So it is on iTunes... so I am having a hard time wrapping my head around this Tidal exclusiveness then. But, I kind of like Tidal. It's like Pandora only better. Can create a playlist of whomever.

OK - I'm a lifelong Prince fan here. Since the 80's. He's the soundtrack to my life. I've been critical of his output in recent years. With the exception of 3121 and AOA think he's been spinning his wheels.

but I say...

HITnRUN is GREAT!!

It's not as solid as ArtOfficialAge - which I consider his best, most exciting album in years and the album I put on fastest now - it was the sound of Prince's sound expanding again - Futuristic Prince - thanks to Joshua.

I read a LOT of bad reviews for HNR here at the org, and I didn't particularly like the advance singles, so I thought "uh oh". But the glowing reviews in major media outlets had me curious.

So I listened....

I love the album. I can't say it's a "great" album like Purple Rain is great. But it's HIGHLY listenable. Here are my thoughts:

1. This album is meant to be heard all at once. Forget the individual songs, this is a 37 minute adventure in sound, funk, and fun. Put it on, relax and enjoy the trip. The strongest "Song" for me is 1000 Hugs. Everything else is just a part of the aural adventure.

2. To the critics who say it sounds like a Beyonce album - pfff - Prince has used female vocalists and rappers of ALL kinds for decades. The vocalists on this album complement his style, perform extremely well, and don't stand out in a bad way.

3. It's EXCITING. It's a thrill ride. Prince is adventurous again.

4. He's weird again.

5. There's not one "Do Me Baby" or "Scandalous" Prince by-the-numbers slow jam which is a GOOD thing. His recent ballads have been unusual, beautiful, different, hypnotic. YES.

6. Some have dismissed this as a "remix" album. Ah - no. There's a LOT of inventiveness here - and a thoughtful cadence between the songs. And really solid vocals, grooves, and musicianship throughout. Granted, I could've lived without another version of This Could B Us and Fall in Love, but within the scope and sound of this album, they WORK as part of the whole.

For me, this album is among my favorite "small gem" Prince albums: like Chaos and Disorder and New Power Soul. Yes I know many of you HATE those albums. But see, I found myself loving those tracks in spite of myself. That's what's great about being a Prince fan.

To my ears, his worst albums of the past 15 years are "Musicology" and "Planet Earth" - why? Because we'd heard it all before only MUCH better. The songs weren't that great and he was repeating himself. One could argue the songs here aren't that memorable either, but like AOA, they flow and segue together beautifully as an exciting listening experience.

I LOVE Prince's use of keyboards and synths. Joshua is revitalizing Prince. Kudos to Prince for loosening his ego and letting this young man help him make great music!

I thought the same thing. It's a shame A.O.A sold so little since it was a much much better album.

It's trend chasing horse shit.

Dated production, over produced, extremely immature and embarrassing. Nothing experimental, artistic or challenging about this remix EP.
The Rainbow Children, for example, was experimental, challenging whilst being simultaneously musically complex and fresh, complete with a personal artistic statement.
Now, you don't have to do that with every album, but some of these descriptive words were used to describe this new and dated remix EP before release, so therefore it needs comparison.

This is an utter tragedy of an album.

Please refer to D'Angelo, Van Hunt's latest albums respectively to hear fresh new ideas that challenge their fan Base without dumb down.

Also, search Jamie Lidell's new single "Pink Light" to hear technology merged with real instrumentation correct complete with a recognisable prince vibe.

Lastly, remember Bobby Womack's last album, The Bravest Man In The Universe? Electronica music produced expertly with mature lyrics.
.....meanwhile prince is like "blood clot! My Ice is cold! I'm from Minnie and I ain't scared of any!"

Depressing.

With Prince, it's usually a hit song with emotional highs and lows with different funky or rock rhythmns. You get a variety, usually.

This album is all about the party.

Million $ Show: Judith can sing...but this is a Prince album. So...it doesn't thrill me, but it's still upbeat. So, I listen.

Shut This Down: Electronic Dance Music. It doesn't thrill me...but I listen. How in the heck would you dance to this anyway? There's no real groove here.

Ain't About 2 Stop: Electronic Dance Music. Once, again, no real groove. Towards the end of the song with the bass and keyboard interlude should have been the main groove along with some other sounds.

Like a Mack: Like the guitar! Don't mind the rapping but...Prince's voice should be the main attraction and it isn't! Not a fan of a lot of saxophone on tracks but it's alright here.

This Could B Us: This one I like. Like the sounds. The first guitar solo is too short. The other funky guitar after the solo is pretty good, though.

Fallinlove: I never did like Zooey's voice on this song. It's super corny anyway but I don't mind it now, for some reason. I do like the swirling keyboards on this one.

X's Face: I didn't like this one, previously. Now, for some reason, I don't mind it. I don't know what it is about my mental state now...where I'm not trashing songs.

HardRocklover: Different type of song for Prince. Like the basic keyboard in the back of the track. The guitar throughout doesn't...wait for it....wait....thrill me.

Mr. Nelson: Mostly instrumental. Relaxing music, though. Til the middle of the song when it gets more upbeat. Alright to listen to while your busy working out or typing or whatever.

1000 Hugs and Kisses: Dope as fuck beat! Prince should do more of this! My favorite song on the album!!! This should be the single........P! Are you reading?! Don't care for the shrieks...just sing it in your man voice, P! The only real groove on the album...

June: Real atmospheric. I dig it!

Overall, it's like Prince's strategy when he toured during the 1999 album. Get in real quick...thrill em and leave. Only this time, I'm not sure how thrilling it all is. As far as the AOA comparison, I liked several songs on that one. This album doesn't jump out at me with killer songs but the upbeat nature of the songs coupled with the different musical direction has me intrigued, I think.

No Eye DIDN'T say that! It's just a different type of energy pouring from this project. prince still having a fire like it's his first album is intoxicating! Eye can't get enough of it. The energy from it, puts me in OVERDRIVE @ the gym. Listening to it on my MEGA Beatz By Dre headphones.

Changing his sound up again with Josh is the BEST thing he has done since AOA!

Eye can't wait 4 PHASE 2!!!

eye will ALWAYS think of prince like a "ACT OF GOD"! N another realm. eye mean of all people who might of been aliens or angels.if found out that prince wasn't of this earth, eye would not have been that surprised. R.I.P. prince

I kinda like this one. It's yet another throwaway title to add to the pile and is not changing the musical landscape but it's got some energy and I find it quite 'hooky'. I find myself singing it when I'm not listening to it. I will get the cd when I see it.

Sorry, Im sticking by it. You said it. To be rejuvinated you have to be "un" juvinated as in worn out and tired. You cant back track now. Its on record. Anyway, now that you have been exposed, you dont have to gush over everything anymore, you can be free! smile

Now I need to find a back handed compliment from Bart and I think we will have bought balance to the force!
