First off I do not review albums with a detailed track by track rating system. I judge an album by seeing if any of the songs seem out of place (is the album cohesive), do I have to skip any tracks and lastly the overall quality of the music. That being said. I like "Hit n Run" It is cohesive, I don't have to skip tracks and I give it a 7.8 rating. It is a solid album. Prince takes you on a musical journey if you let me. For all of the fans waiting for Prince to release Purple Rain part 2 you are going to be greatly disappointed. So either buy another copy of Purple Rain or become a fan of another artist.

I had a dream last night that Prince dropped a surprise album, a la Beyonce. It was titled Chicken Grease & Squirrel Meat: Vol. 1 -- with all songs in the vein of "Stare," "The Gold Standard" and "Time." "The password is what."

You mean what YOU really want. I can do without having more of those songs. Although Time is a very good song. The others? Meh. Nope, dont want funk by the numbers. I want him to go down the rabbit hole that this electronic sound could take him if he only let go of the commercial aspect of it.

Yes I hope Phase 2 will be that kind of album, I want it to be an enjoyable listening experience with a new Prince album Welcome 2 The Dawn

On paper sounds like populist crap. Avoiding, like I should have done on AOA, also garbage.

I'm satisfied with the new album, continuing on the AOA arc which I'm happy with as it was his freshest statement in a long time. I'm still surprised that AOA got such high praise generally on the ORG, yet Hitnrun hasn't. The main complaint was that AOA was too slow, this seems to be have been addressed with a more aggressive tempo and faster beats. . There's some very good stuff here - June & The X's face - lyrically and musically, for me top-notch. One a woozy lament based around 2 notes - (c'mon!) and the latter a dark Princely nugget. The rest, pretty good, there's no tracks I dislike here - although their longevity is doubtful. One thing I don't get is people moaning about tracks like Mr.Nelson. Sure, it's not a "new song", but all this whining "Why can't Prince include another song?!" and stamping their feet. Sheesh!! Hasn't he written enough songs? If he had another he'd consider worthy enough - don't you think it'd be on the album? 'Mr Nelson' is one of those instrumental 'ditties' that he does from time to time, which I enjoy more often than not, and gives 'space' to an album - or a musical breather between songs. In this case he has a nice 'revolving' beat with the 'Clouds' refrain, then switches the tempo up, throws in an eastern vibe and whacks in a Santana-esque guitar solo. Doesn't sound that musically offensive to these ears - I like his instrumental noodlings. . Not his best by a long chalk - but a fun ride which I currently enjoy as well as Josh's production. I'm a big fan of electronica and find that it's the only musical field which pushes the envelope and dares to cover new ground. So, Prince has provided the ingredients and Josh has fed them into his AOA Robosonic blender. And why the fuck not?

On third listen it's actually pretty good. I think it works best if you turn your head at least 120 degrees from the incident device that's emitting it at the time - that technofascist Ora-chant can get a little oppressive - but ultimately the Prince musicality we know and love shines through (once again, 120 degrees away from the incident device, I cannot stress this enough).
Fallinlovetonight is classic Prince. Who knew? Pretty sure he is on a horse by the end though.
