Does he respect Madonna?

There are pics of P and Madonna together in late 1988-1990, 1999 and 2007. They even wrote a song together for Madonna's "Like A Prayer" album.

What is P's view of Madonna? I used to think he didn't really like her and found her overly sexual ways too much for him. I heard he wrote the song "Dinner With Delores" about her, saying she ate like a "brontosaurus" and shared porn around "like some kind of whore".

Are there really pictures of Prince and Madonna any time from the 1980s? I've seen the '07 Oscar one and the '99 Versace party one, but none from the 80s.

Madonna and Prince dated for a short time in 1985, at a time when both were pretty much on top of the world. From several different biographies (of both stars), it seems it was mostly fucking. There was also an entertaining story I read where the both of them got super drunk and started performing a striptease on top of a table at a restaurant. And something about Prince taking her panties with him lol Supposedly she was dating Sean Penn at the same time and he became wildly jealous, smashing a hole in her apartment wall. Prince came the next day and helped Madonna fix it. J. Randy Taraborrelli --- who's documented people such as MJ, Madonna, Cher --- claimed in his biography about her that Prince wanted to become serious, but she rejected him. However, this is the only place I've ever read that... in all other Madonna (and Prince) biographies, it seems the two just became bored of each other and both moved on. After all, Prince had something going on with Susannah at that time and Madonna was falling for Sean Penn. But regardless of the fact she wasn't very interested in Prince anymore by the end, she was still pissed at the fact he suddenly broke off communication with her and stopped responding to her calls. I think her quote was something like, "nobody breaks up with Madonna" LOL... they sort of clashed even whilst dating. Madonna was much more down-to-earth and, dare I say it, normal. Prince was still in his whole "too cool to eat, very mysterious" kind of phase and this annoyed her.

I've heard some say that they rekindled their romance in 1988/89, but I doubt it. However they did work on Like a Prayer and Prince contributed electric guitar to a few tracks. IMO, their duet "Love Song" was highly disappointing, though. I expected so much better. Prince sounds best in his deep bass voice when collaborating with a female artist. Ah well..

I find it interesting that you said "he didn't really like her and ofund her overly sexual ways too much for him" lol I mean, this was the man who wanted to "fuck the taste out of your mouth" and made a video of him getting whipped by his female bandmembers. He also encouraged his female protegees to push the "sexual yet independent" look, which is similar to Madonna's at the time. I think you may be confusing him with Michael Jackson and even Whitney Houston (who both had an issue with Madonna's -- and Prince's -- rampant sexuality). As for the "Dinner with Delores" track, PrinceVault says it was recorded in April 1996... I'm not sure why YEARS later, Prince would write a song about Madonna's eating habits. I'm pretty sure this is just one of those rumors that's flown because a few people believe it. As far as I know, there's no evidence proving that the song is about Madonna. I've heard that the song "A Love Bizarre" was written about his sexual exploits with her ("it gets kind of rough in the back of our limousine").

I think the only time Madonna really dissed him was in 1994, when she supposedly called him a "dwarf". I'd love to see somebody back this up... I've never seen it in print, but if she did say that then well damn LOL. Other than that, she has always been corteous when speaking of Prince. In 2007 they took that pic at the Oscars, and 1 year ago she posted a pic of the two of them together in 1991/92 (Prince had his Diamonds And Pearls haircut/beard) with a cool caption.. something like "no kingdom is complete without its PRINCE". And let us not forget that ill-fated 1999 letter lol But bad blood? I highly doubt it.

----

"NEIL: How did you get to be managed by Michael Jackson’s manager (in those days) Freddy DeMann?

MADONNA: I thought “I must have a manager.” I thought ‘Who’s the most successful person in the music industry and who’s his manager? I want him.” I went out to L.A. to meet him and at the time he was Michael Jackson’s manager. He came out to New York and saw a show at Studio 54 (famous disco club in the early ’80s) I did for Fiorucci and I was so nervous because Michael Jackson’s so incredible live and I thought “If he thinks Prince is terrible — which he did — what can I do?” Then he liked the show."

----

Interviewer: You, Prince and Michael Jackson were all born in the same year, 1958–

Madonna: I know. Isn’t that weird? And I think Michael’s birthday is right near mine, in August…there are so many Leos in my life. I’m August 16.

Interviewer: The three of you have had such an enormous effect on popular music. Yet recently it seems that both Prince’s and Michael Jackson’s connection with the world has weakened while yours has strengthened and become more intimate and personal. Do you feel that?

Madonna: Yes. I think because I stay in touch with the world, and I think that Michael Jackson and Prince have really isolated themselves. And they live very isolated lives. There’s so much fearfulness and so much inhibition that comes with when you become a celebrity and you’re in the public eye all the time; I think you really have to fight that temptation to go into hiding and surround yourself with people who protect you and keep life out from you. I don’t want to live that way. I don’t want to crawl into a hole. I don’t want to go around with six bodyguards, you know?

----

Spin : So many of your contemporaries have hit the skids, and even great talents like Prince, Michael Jackson, George Michael, U2, and R.E.M. are not so selling huge numbers, are not getting the same respect they once did. You’re still selling records, still moving ahead creatively. Why is that ?

Madonna : Everybody you mentioned is extremely talented, so I don’t think it has to do with talent. It’s a tricky life we lead. You really have to find that place of caring but not caring what people think. Where you are desirous of things and you want to be successful and you want to make music that reaches people but you also can detach yourself from it. That’s really hard to do.

----

But going back to Prince and Michael Jackson, it’s never too late to start being a human being. If they could just try being something close to that, then that would be the way to … I mean, f**k salvation in the public eye, I’m just talking about being happy in your private life. Just being able to go to a basketball game or for a bike ride. I can’t imagine either of those guys putting on sweat pants and sneakers and going for a run, playing outside with a dog or just being silly and hanging out with your friends without your make-up on. You know what I mean? I don’t think they do that.” - M, 2001

---

Madonna picked When Doves Cry as her alltime lifechanging track on Radio 1 where she’s currently the guest host with Jo Whiley. She muttered something about not wanting to take her shades off, then spoke about how she first heard Doves listening to her walkman while cycling home to her new NY flat when she ‘was just realising what the world may have in store for her’. They played the full version, a few callers sent emails to say ‘Wow, Madonna’s a Prince fan, it doesn;t get any better’ and ‘That song send chills up my spine. Fantastic choice, Madonna’.

Wiley then asked about her about meeting Prince, she said he was very shy, but called him a genius.

---

AP: You, Prince and Michael Jackson turn 50 this year. Will you be throwing a big, joint party?

Madonna: If there is, I am not throwing it. I am tired of throwing parties!

AP: Maybe you all could do a Rolling Stone cover together.

Madonna: Really? (smiles) I don’t know. Ask them. I am a little bit tired of being the one who always has to ask everything. You are going to have to go to them.

So they've been snarky here and there (like her making fun of Prince's eating habits and him making fun of her.. er.. brood), but I think they do respect each other. He listed her as one of his "favorable mentions" in the '90 Rolling Stone interview.

Yeah, there's a pic of Madonna and P circa 1990 - my mistake, I thought it was sometime in the 1980s.

Yeah, I mentioned that P didn't like Madonna's X-rated image. I heard Madonna's whole Erotica/SEX period would have exhausted even Prince. The lyrics in "Dinner With Delores" include "damn, Delores, pick another subject, please. Introduce the carpet to something other than your knees... Dinner with Delores, no more, that's the end".

They've dated before, but I think Madonna would be an excellent wife for Prince right now biggrin She's strong, independent and extremely wealthy. In other words, she would be his equal. He's dated alot of young airheads that he can control....he finally needs a strong woman for a change.

I agree with you, but not Madonna....Madonna quite frankly acts like a dude in a relationship...you can be a strong woman and leave space for a man to be a man, and still be an equal partner, you know?

I see him with a chick like George Clooneys wife, Amal...someone smart, beautiful, sophisticated and with her own career thats NOT in entertainment.

Misty is really my top pick for Prince smile as far as someone in enterainment...its complematry without her needing him.

Interesting. Is there any bio or quotes to back that up? Never heard of it. But maybe it's true... Madonna may have been selling big numbers back then but from what I know she was looked at in a negative light in the early 90s (until ROL came). But the Dinner with Delores thing... I don't think there's a single shred of evidence pointing it to be about Madonna. There's a lot of sexual women out there, not just her lol

I agree with this. I think Manuela was kind of strong and independent too, even though she was a fan. I say this because I've heard a lot that she was the one who orchestraed Prince's 2004 comeback and 'took control' of his career. supposedly, this caused conflict, though.

But if Prince marries Madonna... media will have a heydey and Prince's next album will sell 1 million within a month lol

Actually if you look at the men she's married, she likes tougher guys, and when you look at her during those periods she becomes the 'wife' easily.
I just think she is the type of woman who has had to deal with men trying to run over her and she's not putting up with it.

Great Post
Did not know some of the 1980s dating stuff

She attended a lot of his 1980 tours and on one particular in LA along with Bruce Springstein joined the Revolution on stage for Baby I'm A Star

Prince also went to many of her concerts.
.
Also I believe she was his first choice for co-Lead in Graffiti Bridge

.

He reached out to her during his battles to get ownership of his music(?)
.
I've seen mid 1990s interview when asked about his expression of Sex through his music and gave a very complimentary comment about Madonna taking up where he left off opened the door and pushed it off the table (something like that)
