Dark: such a great song! I just played Dark from the Come album and was once again reminded how great this song is. One of his best ballads in my opinion, such a treat to hear it again. RIP Prince: thank U 4 a funky Time...

True! I was thinking the same thing listening to it. Good song, good mix, tasteful production. RIP Prince: thank U 4 a funky Time...

The COME album is the album from the 90's that has aged the BEST till this day...
It has aged better than over rated Gold Experience, better than Emancipation, better than Diamonds & Pearls, Rave, etc...

This album doesnt get nearly enough love - its really really really good.

It's very underrated by the general Prince fans and also the members here on the Org.
If u listen 2 this album from start 2 finish, everything has aged so well, the production, sound, just sounds fresh... When you start to listen 2 albums like D&P and Gold, even though both albums contain some great songs... It just sounds very dated, especially a mix of those corny segues, and 90's stylized house music rap.

I have no he as to why he was talking so much head about that silly dumbed down remix on cb. The original is superb and evokes emotion VERY effectively. Beautifully organic and dynamic.

Come..So underated. If any work of art should be compared to greatness it should be this one. Dark is such a haunting ballad and is one of his best ones. I just wish he would perform it live again. This Could Be Us But U Be Playin...

Great song from a great album. I love that classic 93/95 NPG sound - the keyboards, organ, horns and of course Michael B and Sonny T drum n bass. Brilliant vocals, harmonies and screams. Cannot fault it. . Was also a break up song for me at the time - 'I never knew a bitch so mean'

Come has aged better than any of his albums. He could release it today. Always cry 4 love, never cry 4 pain.

I actually prefer the remix on cb. They are both great songs. Never heard prince so vulnerable.

Yes totally agree... Not saying COME is better, but COME has aged better than 1999 and a lot of his 80's albums...

Exactly. It's a bit of a shame that this album as only really gotten the recognition it deserves in the last couple of years. But then again, 3121 was kind of the same and some people are only now just getting Lotusflow3r. Always cry 4 love, never cry 4 pain.

I agree...
I think fans here under rate Come and 3121... Over rate TGE and Lotusflow3r

Come is a cool album for me to play all in one shot. It sets a mood. I did not like it at first until a ex girlfriend would play it all the time. It really grew on me.

He played Dark at Montreux 2013 and it was gorgeous. I sort of forgot about the album until I heard this song and was all what is that? Agree with previous posters that Come has aged far better than TGE
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Yes I agree... This is his best aged album of the 90's IMO...
TGE is a great album, has great songs, but there are many things on TGE that haven't aged at all. I think for the time Prince fans were praising this album due to the mediocracy of the albums of the 90's... But now in 2015, I listen to COME overall as a whole album and think it's far more superior than TGE, even though TGE has better quality single songs, overall as an album it hasn't aged well.

So Dark is fantastic. Dark is just decent. The stripped down, cold, stark sound of the CB remix fits the lyrics and mood perfectly. The Come version isn't as emotionally powerful with instrumentation undermining the serious lyrics, especially the corny horn stab during the first verse. I generally like a more organic sound, but not in his case. "Love & honesty, peace & harmony"

Dark was just one song on a disappointing follow up to the love symbol album. That corny horn stab derailed it early. But like folks say, Come has aged well, so I like Dark more now than I used to. So Dark -- I first heard it on a bootleg. It blew me away. The mood is just pitch perfect. Like Toejam said on Peach & Black, I didn't even connect the two at first. I hadn't played Dark for like 3 years. "Love & honesty, peace & harmony"

Great musicianship Great vocal Sophisticated songwriting I've always Preferred "Come" over "TGE", it's nice to read so many people coming around to that same opinion. It's like the dark "Parade"

i like the crystal version a lot better but i wish the guitar playing at the end of the "Come"version was on the crystal ball version. There's Joy in repetition

Top 20 P The inferior CB version was so not necessary.

90s P is so underrated with a lot of hidden gems. I feel bad for all the critics stuck in the 80s.

Have always loved Come except for two disappointments: 1-The remixes for Letitgo. The remixes for Space were fantastic. Letitgos were not. 2-Only the two singles. Should have been more singles and remixes and some b-sides. Other than that I like Come much more than The Gold Experience.

I totally agree! I looove So Dark. It has a totally fresh vibe and a wonderful tone to it. No version is better than the other imo. But I hate that So Dark is so overlooked as just a throwaway remix. It is as memorable as a remix as Space Universal Love or Eye Hate U Extended. This Could Be Us But U Be Playin...
