I finally listened to the song over the last two days -- after one listen over bad PC speakers the day it was posted on Soundcloud -- AND while everyone is entitled to dislike or like whatever the hell they want, I think you have to be pretty clueless to not like this song at least a little, whether you're a fan, an ex-fan with a giant chip on his/her shoulder or just someone out there looking for something to listen to.

Where to start? His vocals are just classic Prince from the full throated parts to the screams, the guitar is out of this world and the whole thing is wall to wall emotion. The lyrics? They don't need to be worthy of Dylan or Joni when the music is this evocative.

A longer version would be nice but this is compelling enough

(BTW I get that one should always retain one's critical faculties, but sometimes some of you make me laugh out loud with you all-knowingness and taste-arbitrer-riness -- nice to see some of the usual suspects giving some props in this case.)

Completely agree... A good song is a good song, this is a good song. I'm not saying it's on the level of Joy in Repetition, When Dovesy Cry, etc... But for 2015... This is a damn good song.

There are some people who made their decision about this song in 1994. If we ignore those people, this has had an overwhelmingly positive reaction. Of course you can never please everyone and that's fine, but I agree with you that whether this song is to your liking or not you have to give it some credit, if only for the vocals. Maybe not a MASTERPIECE, but certainly not abysmal, pubescent or pathetic. Somewhere in between.
Personally I find myself wanting to play it again and again, which didn't happen with Baltimore, The Xs Face or the repent you sinner song...

There is some clipping as it gets loud in the climax. I would like him to work further with this in the future because it happened as well with Breakdown. Still a great track I am singing in my head.

Some of us have loved Prince along with many other greats becasue we love music and have high standards, ...set by the artists themselves. Of this track I said from first listen that this is a great track, along with tyhe earlier snippet of Stare.

I laugh, when people compare Breakfast Can Wait or Clouds as something worthy of Rebecca Black, much less a lengend like Prince. It boggles my mind really, that people have such low standards in their music that they are perplexed and can't tell why anyone would cringe and say out loud how bad something is. When the king has no clothes, people say it.

At least it isn't as bad as it was on Breakdown. They played that over the PA when he played his Birmingham gig in the UK last year and it just sounded terrible at that kind of volume.

Roberta Black is no less a legend that Prince in my book, it's all part of humanity's potential for musical expression and everyone contributes their own greatness. Prince is famous for having a great range, for singing in different ways and for manipulating his voice, what you hear is always exactly as he wanted it. As you can see from Hardrocklover, your theory that he has voice problems because of his bad hearing doesn't hold water -- whatever nasality your hear is what he wanted and he can sing it any way you would wish but it's his call Clouds is probably a better track than Hardrocklover, time will tell.

Rebecca Black sings the hit song Friday. Being confused with Roberta and Rebecca is probably also why some would not taste a difference between drinking a tea or water from the sea.

I meant Roberta Flack, this is hilarious. My brain must have declined to remember who sang Friday, but on the other hand this is a most unfortunate typo from my part.

Yeah I liked how the song started but it kinda fell off afterwards. It also sounded like his screams weren't the same as in years past. I'm not one of these fans who only likes his old music. I dig some of his newer stuff too but this song didn't really strike a chord with me.

Still holding out for a non-iTunes way to purchase. I have a psychological aversion to buying anything that's not physical or not lossless.
Hoping 7digital (zdigital here in Australia) get it as they have most other releases.

Make'em scream? Make'em scream turn that shit off, is more like it! I'm sorry, but this is more rushed/half baked filler music. It screams (no pun intended) of being unfinished! Prince is all about how much money he can make off his music, instead of actually putting out decent or great music anymore! Prince is basically music's fast food merchant. Shitty-cheap music for the masses, to make a quick buck!
