Slave 2 The System is an unreleased song recorded on 15 May, 1994 at Paisley Park Studios, Chanhassen, MN, USA, during the first day of sessions for the New Power Generation's second album Exodus (on the same day as Get Wild, New Power Soul, The Exodus Has Begun, Hallucination Rain, Count The Days and It Takes 3). The track includes lead vocals by Sonny T. The song, as Slave, was included merged with Acknowledge Me as the third track (second song) on the 2 December, 1994 configuration of Exodus, but was removed from later configurations. The reason for the tracks being combined and tracked as only one track is not known. In early-to-mid 1995, re-recorded the track at Paisley Park Studios using entirely different music, including gentle strings, probably provided by Clare Fischer's orchestra. A marching drum pattern from the track was sampled from Ain't No Place Like U, and was also used on the released version of Slave, which contains some lyrical and musical similarities to Slave 2 The System, but is otherwise a different song. This version was included as the second track on a July, 1995, configuration of the Emancipation album, and the third track on another 1995 configuration, but was removed as work on the album continued. The track remains unreleased.-PrinceVault

Slave)
Slave, yeah [x2]

Slave 2 the system here before I was born
Slave 2 the master, workin' me till I'm worn
The only penthouse I can count on's a big black ball and chain
Slave 2 the system, the future's all arranged

Oh, U better fetch that water, boy [x2]
Slave 2 the system

Thompson's my last name, but my daddy's name is Lloyd
The farther back I trace it, the more it becomes null and void
All my life I've struggled just 2 be called a boy
Slave 2 the system, oh what a joy

Oh, U better fetch that water, boy
Hell if I do!
(Oh, U better fetch that water, boy)
Oh, I'm just a slave 2 the system

Here before I was born
Slave 2 the master, workin' me till I'm worn

Slave 2 the system

Q

0{+>
The Gold Experience

Unwieldy names, contract disputes, the jaw as mobile billboard, speaking through intermediaries, wearing Vivienne Westwood's idea of a bee-keeper's mask on stage ... the antics of Prince continue to confuse. And it's hard not to wonder just how much all the messing about affects the little fellow.

After a succession of breathtaking albums in the '80s, his output has been characterised by aimlessness, by LPs that relied on a couple of jewels to distract from the surrounding fluff. Gold Experience, then, brings mixed news; it is still no Purple Rain, Around The World In A Day or Sign O' The Times, but the gem-to-lint ratio is altogether healthier.

Gold Experience is the New Power Generation's finest hour. Whether tightened by their recent touring, or inspired by their apparently unanimous love of early '70s Sly & The Family Stone (loudly proclaimed in Q last year), their playing here is never short of excellent. They brew a seemingly effortless mesh of taut, springy music that reminds of the days when bands like Earth, Wind And Fire, War, the inevitable Parliament/ Funkadelic/Bootsy Collins agglomerates and tons of others honed their particular thing to a nicety. Those people had the funk and, cheerily, the New Power Generation have it too.

All of which would be rather wonderful if Prince's songs had a bit more to say. If this is the New Power Generation's LP -- and it is -- they've a right to feel slightly let down by their guvnor's continued insistence on dick-waving as a substitute for real lyrics.

The opener, for instance, makes the heart sink. It's called Pussy Control and it is tedious. Elsewhere, though, are the best Prince songs for many a cherry moon. Familiarity hasn't blunted the sheer loveliness of The Most Beautiful Girl In The World; Dolphin -- perhaps about his problems with The Man -- is a thrilling glide; and Now, Shy and the weird We March are well up to Prince scratch.

All in all, a good record, but still a feeling persists that, for whatever reason, he's not quite giving of his best -- where, for instance, is the brilliant, live-tempered Days Of Wild? Others would be glad to make Gold Experience but you just know that if water-treading were to become an Olympic event Prince would be first to don the star-spangled Speedos.

"Days of Wild" was premiered live in concert in February 1994 along with other new material to promote Prince's new on-stage persona, performing all new material. Shortly thereafter, the studio version of this song and others were played as a promotion on European radio stations and began circulating among collectors. "Days of Wild" became a crowd favorite at concerts, despite it never being officially released. The song was originally to be released on 1995's The Gold Experience but ended up being pulled for unknown reasons. Comments by Prince and associates suggest that he may have simply been dissatisfied with the studio version, which pales in comparison to live performances.

Break down
This is a bust (hold onto your wits!)
All u sorry motherfuckers up against the wall
If u don't play, bite the dust
Cuz in a couple of simple fuckin phrases
Im gonna hip u 2 the fuckin place of
The brand new mad style, uh
Cuz these are the days of wild - hit me!
(hold onto your wits!) {x2}
.
Pop guns and weed? brother please!
Were 2 wise 4 now, since the other 90s was better suited 4 that biz
Back when dick was fuckin liz
Before soda pop had fizz
Don't blame it on a jockstrap full of jizz
Mentality so insane
I got a tech-9 2 and it's called my brain
Shoot another brother? not 2day
Death from envy is the only way
Here I can tear shit up cuz that's my style
And these are the days of wild - hit me! (hold onto your wits!)
These are the days of wild (hold onto your wits!)
These are the days of wild
.
Hooker, bitch and ho, I don't think so
I only knew one and never told her though
I thought about many times (diss me? )
But that's the kind of shit that make u check your mind
Is your blood type the type that flows
Or is your blood type the type just stereo?
A woman every day should be thanked
Not disrespected, not raped or spanked
And if a woman ever said I did
Uh, she's a motherfuckin liar and Im a set-up kid
And I can tear shit up yall cuz that's my style
And these are the days of wild - hit me! (hold onto your wits!)
These are the days of wild (hold onto your wits!)
.
Oh oh oh, by the way, I play guitar!
.
Tennis shoes and caps, now that's phat
Up until the day another wanna laugh behind your back
Sayin we all look the same, huh
God bless america, home of the brave
Id rather dress 2 make a woman stare
Im puttin on somethin that another wont dare
Its a freezer burn compared 2 cool
And if u still got loot, then whos the fool?
Everybody wanna take the stand
Mind your own motherfucker, let a man be a man
I can tear shit up yall cuz that's my style
And these are the days of wild - hit me! (hold onto your wits!)
These are the days of wild - hit me! (hold onto your wits!)

The Most Beautiful Girl In The World was the first single to be released from Prince's 17th album The Gold Experience, the first album to be credited to (although no album was connected to the single at the time of its release).

It was also the first single to be credited to , and the first to be released independently of Warner Bros., as well as the first release of any kind from NPG Records (the replacement to the defunct Paisley Park Records).

The single was released only five months after The Hits collections, and was clearly intended as a break from the past. It became Prince's first UK number one single, although there were allegations that Prince's organization had bought thousands of copies of the single around the world to ensure its success.

Three months after the single's release, an EP called The Beautiful Experience followed, containing several remixes of the song, each with separate titles (rather than remix names in parentheses). This release contains different artwork also, but is included here, as it was not the only variation. CD singles were also released of the Staxowax and Mustang Mix versions, also included here.

Prince wanted to release different tracks independently, but Warner Bros. had required that only one song be released independently, so his response was to put out several different versions of the song, some so different that they could be considered separate tracks.

The single's originally-planned b-side, New World, had been blocked for release by Warner Bros., so Prince instead recorded the Beautiful version of The Most Beautiful Girl In The World, which uses many of the same musical elements as New World.

SoulAlive

the one bad thing about this era: Prince looked way too skinny and pale. And that Liza Minnelli hairdo was unflattering,as well confused I remember buying that 1994 Vibe magazine with Prince on the cover and a friend of mine made an interesting observation. She said "Prince looks like a pale lizard!".

God, I was obsessed with The Beautiful Experience maxi. Great mixes, great cover art direction. What every maxi single should be, minus the fact it didn't have a non-album B-side. As a teenager, I used to call the NPG Store after hours and listen to the hold music, which was The Beautiful Experience at one point. This was before I had the money to buy it. lol

Hey Soul....I always thought he was going for the Halle Berry hairstyle during this time. I think he rocked the Liza hair in the "Raspberry Beret" video. The "Gold" era was definetly an interesting time. It's almost like he went back to being underground...I agree with you that he looked too skinny and pale. He looks much better (and happier) now.

The fan-made triple album "The Dawn" is probably the best catalogue of the era. A very well constructed peice of work with some fantastic mashups like the Crystal Ball version of DOW mashed up with the guitar solo of the same song that was released by NPGMC. Also the version of Space mixes in the several of the remixes. All in all, the "album" is a fantastic document of the era.

Released: 22 July, 1994

The Most Beautiful Boy In The World, Mayte's version of 's The Most Beautiful Girl In The World, was the first single to be released from Mayte's first and only album Child Of The Sun.

It was released more than a year prior to the album, and therefor no forthcoming album was listed on the single's artwork. The a-side was the track as later released on the album. The b-side, ¿Quieres Ser El Mas Bello De Este Mundo?, is a Spanish version of the track, using the same backing tracks, which is not available elsewhere.

The single did not enter the charts.

Could you be the most beautiful boy in the world?
It's plain to see you're the reason that God made a girl

When the day turns into the last day of all time
I can say I hope you are in these arms of mine, of mine
And when the night falls before that day I will cry
I will cry tears of joy 'cause after you all one can do is die, die

Could you be the most beautiful boy in the world?
Could you be?
It's plain to see you're the reason that God made a girl

How can I get through days when I can't get through hours?
I can try but when I do I see you and I'm devoured
Who'd allow, who'd allow a face to be soft as a flower?
I can bow and feel proud in the light of this power

Could you be the most beautiful boy in the world? (Could you be?)
Could you be?
It's plain to see you're the reason that God made a girl

And if the stars ever fell one by one from the sky
I know Mars could not be to far behind
'cause baby, this kind of beauty has got no reason to ever be shy
'cause honey, this kind of beauty is the kind that comes from inside

Could you be (Could you be?) the most beautiful boy in the world?
So beautiful, beautiful
It's plain to see (Plain to see) you're the reason that God made a girl

Could you be the most beautiful boy in the world?
you must be beautiful
It's plain to see you're the reason that God made a girl
So beautiful

If the stars ever fell one by one from the sky
(Could you be the most beautiful boy in the world?)
I know Mars could not be to far behind
(It's plain to see you're the reason that God made a girl)

Could you be the most beautiful boy in the world? (Could you be?)
So beautiful, beautiful
It's plain to see you're the reason that God made a girl

By God, come on, let me see, you oughta

My camera's gonna get you when you get it good and wet
You oughta let me come and pet you so it lasts, baby 319

Can I see it, baby? Mm, ow

I got a good shot, put your leg on the chair, like that?
You know you're too hot when you play with your hair, I like it

I just wanna holler, scream and shout when you let
Your fingers do the walkin' in and out and all about, 319

Ah hoochie, don't do that, you, you
You make me wanna dance, now watch this

Lock the door and kill the phone,

my camera, you and me alone
Will make a picture, all will see and go, ow, 319

Oh baby, how'd you get your legs to do that? Ooh shit
319, 319, 319, you're just too mean, 319, 319, 319
Yeah, yeah, go on girl, 319, 319, ain't gotta tell you
'Cuz you already know, 319, girl, you in the house
So keep runnin' that show, go on girl, 319

Yeah, 319, come here, 319, have you ever kissed
Another woman on the dance floor? Come here
319, where you goin'?

Come here, 319, 319, 319, oh

This was a great era to be a Prince fan. I had recently become a fan with the prince album so all the antics during this time period had me entranced Prince seemed like he was some mystical music demigod seen to earth. It was like he was on another level and no one could understand what was happening.

P.S. does anyone know where I can get hard copies of NPG magazines?
