I'll be surprised if this is remembered years from now...I guess we shall see. [Edited 5/9/15 16:45pm]

ColAngus said: "if there is not justice , then there aint no peace" ...
that line just bugs me ... cus my opinion is ... the officers
will be found NOT GUILTY ... at least some will ...
then what ? rioting again for weeks ? Yea, I thought most of the song was stupid and irresponsible. Prince should NOT be encouraging no peace until "justice" is served. Why are all these racially motivated riots always so one sided? It's annoying. And it's getting out of hand. Most of the time, the black people crying victim are not saints. Most of them have extensive criminal records and resist arrest. Nobody deserves to die, but where is the responsibility of these victims actions leading up to these incidents?

I like the song. It is breezy and almost U2 like. Sounds like I came back to the palace of Negative Nancies in here, but anyway the chant part was a little off. The rest of it is nice in my opinion.
And who in their right mind said Rick james would have done better?
Anyone heard Wonderful, The Flag or Deeper Still?
Seriously you know you need to quit lol Straight Jacket Funk Affair

This song is singable and mainstream media friendly and that is exactly perfection for its intended audience.

he is getting blasted on some conservative sites. But many do not seem to know much about him or his career. "Keep on shilling for Big Pharm!"

They also blasted Tim McGraw for simply playing a concert that benefitted the Sandy Hook Promise group, whose mission statement is to "protect children from gun violence so no other parent experiences the loss of their child." Conservative idiots found a way to relate it to somehow endangering their 2nd Amendment rights and basically Dixie Chicked him. Fuck them. Their go-to response for anything they disagree with is to cry and then then inevitiable threats of violence follow.
Others who are more sensible about the world we live in need to call out these fuckwads for what they really are; cowards that are the exact opposite of anything approaching patriotic.

Who gives a crap what names the conservatives are calling him. Their comments do nothing other than contribute to the spread of negative bs and ignorance they spoonfeed to their audience, then they go home and feed that same negative, ignorant isht to their kids for dinner. Its nothing spectacular but its not as bad as most the shit he's been releasing over the last decade. The Most Important Thing In Life Is Sincerity....Once You Can Fake That, You Can Fake Anything.

I said the song Mr. Policeman by RJ is so much better than Baltimore. Mr. Policeman was released in 1981 and is the song that Prince 'lifted' the term 'funk n roll' from. Rick James never had half the talent that Prince does and that only makes the song Baltimore that much more disappointing. It stank!

Prince has been talking bout gun control since what Controversy's Annie Christian? It's not like this view has appeared out of no where. Plus Im sure the gun loving conservatives have more things against prince than his views on the 2nd amendment. making them universal. I think if you're going to sing about deaths, whether justified or not (41 shots?), just because oh the poor man, he spent like — figure this! — three days of strong work, someone said earlier? The Colors R brighter, the Bond is much tighter

I highly doubt that many here grasp your concept of your arguing either. I never said that you couldn't opine. I simply gave my opinion on how obtuse your musings were, hence freedom of speech was maintained for both of us.
Just because you can't grasp the nuances of what the song is saying doesn't mean that your opinion is correct. Had you proposed it in a more coherent manner, maybe there would be something to discuss. But you keep trying to come off as witty and profound; you're accomplishing neither. I happen to think, given my knowledge of Black America, and the violence that has been perpetrated on it for numerous years, that this is by far Prince's most heartfelt and poignant message song I have ever heard. It's right for this situation. So just because in your mind it doesn't rise to the level of Lovesexy, SOTT, anything by Bob Dylan, etc., is irrelavant.
But again, in reading the remainder of your post, you are saying absolutely nothing. You are obviously trying to come off as artistic or something to that effect, but it's falling flat. The GIF isn't helping.

My take on the "gun control" comment in Annie Christian was not that it was calling for gun control, but the line was questioning the knee-jerk reaction of gun-control after said shooting; and in general, the fact that it takes major incidents for people to react and ask for common sense measures to anything in America.

What about the thousands of more songs that has written more than Rick ever wrote. Don't those count?
Also since your going to bring up "Street Songs" album? That very "Street Songs" album Rick recorded with 's oberhiem synthesizer! That he STOLE from while touring with him. He used it to make "Mr. Policeman" and all the other cuts on that album. Then stole the guitar riff on "Pass The J" from 's "Sexy Dancer".
If U going to use Rick to bring down ? Vice versa!!! will ALWAYS think of like a "ACT OF GOD"! N another realm. mean of all people who might of been aliens or angels.if found out that wasn't of this earth, would not have been that surprised. R.I.P.

here's a thought; Maybe it's not a literal reference to taking guns away; maybe he's commenting on the influx of illegal guns in the AA community, that has to come from somewhere, and how if there wasn't such easy access to weapons, then maybe there wouldn't be so many black men killing other black men in these communities. Smart comment. It amazes me that after all these years Org fans still dont get P. Prince grew up on 60s-70s political theatre. Some people are too literal for his brand of art. He is more Sly than Public Enemy.

I guarantee that if this track showed up on Blast From The Past 3.0 with a little in-the-vault audio hiss, everyone would be clammoring for the best quality version around and commenting on how he doesn't make great music like this any more.
Most of the vaulted music that's been released lately is not even close to this song, but hey, those songs came from the 80s so they MUST be great because HE was great in the 80s. It's a terrible bias that exists on this pathetic little org.
This song doesn't have to be the greatest thing he's ever recorded, but it's a song he cares about and according to the non-org critics spanning the web over the past 12 hrs or so have also raved about this song. Wanna know why? They don't start by immediately hating a song before even listening to it like so many ppl here do.
