Surprisingly, at least for someone who bitches about Prince a lot, I LOVE Rave. Both versions, but especially Rave Un2. I think he could still write strong pop tunes back then, and I really enjoy the wide range of styles on the album. I'm not being sarcastic. I love Rave.

I too like Rave. When it first came out I thought it was okay but lately I've found myself listening to it a lot. Undisputed is terrible. But Sun, Moon and Stars is a great ballad. I Love You But Don't Trust You is such a heartwrenching song that speaks to many people in that situation. It's rare that Prince gets that emotionally visceral. Baby Knows is a simple pop track that I listen to more than It's Gonna Be A Beautiful Night. Overall this was a strong pop album for Prince and didn't understand why people hate it so much, maybe because of all the guest artists? I know up until this album that had never happened.

I know for me, the guest artists weren't such a big deal. It was the plastic production (Hot Wit U is the worst offender), flat hooks and juvenile lyrics along with a cringeworthy sound of Prince trying way too hard to be popular again. So far, So Pleased, the title track, the awful Everyday is a Winding Road cover - you can almost hear Prince begging people to like him again.

Sun, Moon and Stars has a pretty sound to it at least, and I agree that I Love U... is a powerful and beautiful song.

Prince loved him some Sheryl Crow. I don't think he covers just anyone.

Kamasutra by far in my case. I used to love it, then I discovered contemporary music and realized it made no sense at all.

The Truth is THE worst. Prince's version of MTV Unplugged? Bad idea!!! lol

Kamasutra get a pass from me only because it was inspired by happier times with Mayte years ago, not to mention the classical instrumentals are OK as daytime background music. But The Truth get no mercy at all. I never want to see OR hear Prince do a full-brown acoustic album ever again. A Prince album without electricity is NOT good for business at all.

Not an album, but I've just started listening to 1999: The New Master. First time I've listened to it since, well, 1999.

Oh dear. It cannot be as bad as I remember, can it? So far, so terrible.

Under medical advice, I had to take a break between some of the songs of 1999: The New Master. I cannot think of a good thing to say about it - it has lyrics to rival the infamous Lemon Crush rhyme, is full of filler, with pretty terrible remixes and rapping and scatting.

One of the worst things is that it is billed as an EP from Prince and The Revolution. As a "look at me, I am free!" statement, it is almost worthless and surely damaging to his credibility as an artist.

Its more an extended single than an album, but it is dreadful. Did you know that the "Keep Steppin" remix on it got #477 out 477 Prince songs ranked from best to worst on the Peach and Black best Prince songs podcast.

Both have a few tracks that I can listen too but if they disappeared they wouldn't be missed.

If he ever releases an album with that pos Balitimore on it then that will be the forever unlistenable album. chainsaw

So far I have analysed the results and it is surprising. Generally most of the "Classic" Albums are exempt except for 3 "MAVERICK" Votes. In these, Gold Experience, Lovesexy and Sign o the Times were nominated.

.

I counted all votes for least listenable and some people named more than one album, if they had a tie or said it was the least listenable, I included it.

Heres the results from most votes to least. Some include commerically unreleased albums and extended singles.

.

The Rainbow Children - 8 votes for least listenable album(Good to know we are not all blinded by Dogma and crappy Darth Vader voices)

MPLSOUND - 8 votes (Cruelty, but this album has a few stinkers)

Rave un2 the Joy fantastic - 7 (About right, dated dreck)

Kamasutra - 5 (Anything above this proves how shitty it must be)

Planet Earth - 4

Plectrum Electrum - 4

Chaos and Disorder - 3

Emancipation - 3

Art Official Age - 2

New Power Soul - 2

Indigo nights - 2

NEWS - 2

Truth - 2

20Ten - 2

The Gold Experience - 1

Chocolate Invasion - 1

High - 1

Sign o the Times - 1

1999, the New Master - 1

Lovesexy - 1

.

Never really listened to Kamasutra so my vote goes to the bland and pedestrian Musicology... a couple of nice tracks and a bunch of clunkers...

I can see how TRC divides opinion, but I love it.

MPLS is a strong candidate for least listenable, maybe it's a tie with Musicology, but it has got 'No More Cand 4 U' and I love that one, perfectly wacky.

Indigo Nights, if that counts as an album.

Or Plectrum Electrum, if you go by "Number of songs I like on the album against songs I dislike"-ratio.

At least TRC has some great music on it, and not every song on it is about the JWs. And I enjoy the energy and mood of songs like Everywhere or the anger in Family Name. I think it´s only the two or three weird songs on TRC that make people dislike it.

I used to listen to Kamasutra during bus trips and flights back then, not necessarily a bad album.

But Indigo Nights and Plectrum Electrum are albums that I just can´t get into. There are probably only two songs on PE that I can enjoy.

are there any good songs on indigo nights? i feel like i remember 3121 live is not too bad on it but overall the songs do get boring.

.

not sure why I never really listened to the CD properly either, just never clicked though. the actual aftershows at indigo2 were really fun in person so there must be something about capturing these types of show on CD. never really listen to the one night alone aftershow CD either.

Not a single song on Indigo Nights is worth shit. And I LOVE the bootleg recordings of all the shows he did, the amazing aftershows and stellar musicianship. To release Indigo Nights as the documentation of those shows is nearly sadistic.

I've never made it fully through Rave. I usually make it half way through the album and turn off after Everyday is a winding road.

And TRC as well as many have noted. I've never made it fully through that either.

It boggles the mind how a musician´s musician like Prince releases official CDs or DVDs (like Live at the Aladdin ONA show) that sound or look more boring than the actual show really was.

I had so much fun at the Indigo, yet the official release sounds so lifeless and incoherent.

Same with the Aladdin DVD....some orgers were there and loved the concert, yet the DVD fails to capture that magic , with all that editing and missing songs and whatnot.

Or the Crystal Ball CD set.

Most of us loved most of the songs on that set before they were officially released in the form of the CB album but the album itself is very incoherent and some of the versions on it pale in comparison to the bootlegs.

For me it'd be either New Power Soul or Rave. I only like a few songs on New Power Soul and Rave sounds mostly dated and stale or lifeless. Its like not a lot of energy in the songs.
