Is Prince physically capable of doing a world tour? Just thinking, with Madonna touring the world with 35 dates. Prince did like double that for the musicology tour, years ago. Surly he could muster a 35 date world tour if Madonna can? Or do you think hes just doesn't think his body is up for the strain anymore?

He could do it easily. Easily I say! I got two sides... and they're both friends.

Of course he is. Hundalasiliah!

I've been wondering the same thing as of late. The Hit 'N Run thing has been around for decades, but these days things seem far more erratic. I can't fathom another reason why he would have let 2 records be released and not do any kind of touring behind them. It's nice that he's doing some shows now, but the promo ship has sailed as far as the albums are concerned. "That's when stars collide. When was the last world tour he did? was it One Nite Alone? That was along time ago. So why doesnt he do another one? He has a young and fit (in more ways than one) backing band who im sure would be well up for doing one. Maybe he feels he couldnt give his all everynight , like back in the day?

He could do a show like the act one tour, half new stuff and half hits, which would keep anyone happy! I don't get it either , why release two albums and not tour with them? Some of the material on both albums is strong enough , i feel , to play live. that harks me back to the original question.

I think the 20Ten/Welcome 2... shows would probably qualify as a world tour, and they certainly covered more ground than One Nite Alone. However, I think One Nite Alone actually felt more like a real world tour because it was more constructed and less varied. The 20Ten/Welcome 2... shows seemed like more of a mixed bag.

World tours are really expensive to do. "New Power slide...."

Well the Welcome to tours, ran into different years, but were spread out much longer. The one nite alone tour was more like a proper world tour, within a year ,and lots of dates from japan to america to london etc.

Prince will still be physically capable of doing world tours when half of us will be pushing walkers.

If not, what's the problem? Age? Hell, Bob Dylan is planning another two month tour (28 concerts as of now) through the US while pushing 74. Back to Prince, only one concert announced so far. Who knows how many will follow! [Edited 3/8/15 9:48am]

He'd just sit behind the piano & folks would still come to see him. I saw Bo Diddley when he was 78 years old and he sat down the entire time too. And he rapped! Never underestimate a true artist! I don't think that Prince is in bad health, I mean more in his own head, does he find doing a fully fledged World tour with many different countries too much nowadays? Not since the One nite Alone tour has he done a long diverse, ie many different countries straight tour. We know how much he can sometimes still push himself physically on stage. Dancing/playing and all. I guess i am just wishful thinking for a World tour, and reasons why he never does them anymore.

Okay, thanks for clearing that up. Here what I think: what Prince loves above all is the excitement, the joy of playing music. And doing hit & run shows is keeping the fiction alive, the fiction that he is in a garage band that is hip and happening. Music is something that should be enjoyed in the moment and when it's gone, it's gone. This is what keeps it interesting for him. Doing tv interviews and talk blabla to promote an album, plan a tour with x dates, play them and then go home again...that feels too much like a job. And that's not what he wants. He wants the thrill of playing, of creating and yes, of messing with everybody's minds a little bit. Keeping everybody guessing and then driving them wild when he finally does show up. The instrument he playes best and loves playing the most is not the guitar or the piano, but the audience. [Edited 3/8/15 11:53am]

thats a great reply, and im sure theres truth in your thoughts. Also he tends to go for a certain country now, and tours that place. Like the uk last year, Australia another year. Maybe he feels thats the best way to go nowadays. Pinpointing a certain part of the world only.

Yes, but imo he can't dance anymore. At all. If he does 'dance', he does something similar to his first ever IWBYL American Bandstand performance back in '80 [Edited 3/8/15 13:17pm] Maybe do, just not like did before

Keith and Mick still do shows. Dylan performs hundreds of concerts every year. Prince can easily do a big tour. He's in great shape. His wig, however... "Drop that stereo before I blow your Goddamn nuts off, asshole!"

He is worth 300 million dollars. He can do whatever he wants right about now, besides sell records. All he needs is his small band and a few other people to do hit & run tours. It makes sense and I bet it is fun. He seems to be getting nicer as he gets older. I mean, why else would he go to Kentucky?
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Well Madonna,is worth alot more, but is doing a world tour. And why not Kentucky?

I gather he could but wanting to is a different matter... A robin sings a masterpiece that lives and dies unheard...

Just considering the fundamental rigors of the travel, it is worth noting that he has a built-in mechanism to cushion the blow. He might gig in San Francisco, or dance all night in Rome. He'll play any freaking place he wants to, and then his Lear jet brings him home.

maybe Prince isn't patient enough to do a world tour.He seems to get bored really quickly.A world tour would require him to be on the road for at least half a year or longer.
