Prince gives songs to sexy women artists? Who cares? I'll be excited when D'Angelo gives songs to Prince! Maybe that could spare us from PlectrumRectum Part 2.
It would be nice to see them tour and maybe throw in Lenny Kravitz or stretch a little and mix in Living Colour (who will release a new album). I like AoA but am thrilled about PLECTRUM ELECTRUM....its a rock album not a pop album...hope 3rdeyegirl and Prince make a few more. If D'Angelo had any connection to a future 3rdeyegirl album he should consider himself lucky....its exciting work and I'm really glad Prince stuck to his guns to make a straight up rock album.
It has been highly speculated, that Beyonce used an unreleased track 4 one of her commercials. It undeniably had his intricate sound. But strangely was never released.

Is it this one? I said a while back that the outtake Our Destiny would have been perfect for an artist like Rihanna.
Yea! That is it! , needs to unveil this!!!Pronto!
will ALWAYS think of like a "ACT OF GOD"! N another realm. mean of all people who might of been aliens or angels.if found out that wasn't of this earth, would not have been that surprised. R.I.P.
When The Original7 reunited several years ago, they actually wanted a few songs from Prince but he declined. What's he got against giving songs to male artists and bands?
Apparently, he's been living in "star" land too long and wishes he was on the same level in the mainstream as he used to be. Hell, look at all the awards shows he's been on lately where he had absolutely no business there at all. He wasn't receiving awards but he was constantly making little two minute apperances to present awards in a room full of little kiddies with him standing up there looking like a big dumb overgrown kid in school that flunked several grades and was held back in class with the little kiddies.
.
From the samples I've heard lately, Nile Rodgers is the one that's going to have hot new music in the near future with his new Chic album, not Prince. And if Prince wants to work with the little kiddies, Harts would be an excellent choice since he sounds like he was influenced by Prince and doesn't sound like everything else out there these days. But then again, working with folks like this wouldn't put Prince back in the mainstream that he seems so desperate to get back into these days even though the mainstream of today is not worthy of having someone like Prince in it. He's becoming a sellout and seems to be on the same path as Ronald Isley and Charlie Wilson who have made music so weak in their solo careers, they would need Viagra to get the hard funk back in them.
Yo Vain...u my man and all. But u gotta retire that "shit hopper" barb...lol....Rihanna has been known to dabble in hip-hop from time to time. But 'ol girl is as pop as Madonna and edgier than Paula. Prince hooking up with Rihanna makes perfect sense given his history of working with pop starlets....
I agree and would love to, but how can you retire something that applied in the 1990s and still applies in the 2010s? I agree, enough is enough, and when that ridiculous genres retires, or at least stops dominating mainstream R&B, I'll gladly retire the term. I'm the one that has always wanted change. Too bad the music world doesn't.
Yeah...I'm not trying to go at your hatred for hip-hop and modern day R&B (at times very out of touch, I might add...)....Just saying that Rihanna is as pop as Madonna. Hell, she's at times even more pop than Madge.....
Please explain how it's out of touch to expect singers to be able to actually be able to sing . . . . just a little bit at least ?
I hear a lot of people talk about other artists here on the org in dismissive ways. Obvious that they have no real knowledge of what they are talking about. If you actually ever listened to her music you would not be so dismissive. She is on her way to being not just a star but an icon. Listen to "Stay" with an open mind and tell me the girl can't sing. Listen to her music and tell me the girl isn't rightly a star. [Edited 2/24/15 20:45pm]
Seen her live brother. Heard all of her music. Great songs. She's got great people writing for her. Doesn't change the fact that she can't sing. Icon ? No. Trivia question? Probably.

Besides you opinion that she cant sing, which I respect, ...you like her songs, agree that she has great people writing for her, agree she is a big star and still can't see why Prince would want to give her a track? Yeah it still sounds way out of touch.
I love her voice by the way, she has a great sound, auto-tune or not..
On a slightly different note. (no pun intended) who come up with these daft rumors about her performing the song on the BRITS and such! Someone even posted on social media that they heard prince was performing over here on a WB party!! LOAD OF RUBBISH

Her sound couldn't be more processed for today's radio, like individual slices of tasty cheese and it's fun but now you have to admit you're just liking highly processed music that sounds great on your speakers and that your cubicle neighbor won't mind because it's the common, familiar sound of the era. Nothing wrong with being a person of your time, but artistically, musically and structurally, you're on the losing side of history. Because you admire a well produced singer over a total music man like Prince, it makes you sound terribly concerned with current tastes -- remember Violet, things are only contemporary for less than five years before they have to live on as true classics.
I love Rihanna, I'm happy she recorded a Prince song, I don't know if it will be any good, but I already know very few of her songs will join the pantheon -- unless she does something big and life altering.

Well, I certainly hope so. The more out of touch it is, means I've been more successful at tuning it out of my life. Although, it's very hard though since it keeps popping up in the most unexpected places like the "Today" show while I'm trying to watch the news.

Congrats for staying the 80's equivalent of a pre-Altamont hippie, just way sexier and better smelling.

You can never trust anything off the internet anymore. Unless a legit news reporter says something is confirmed or someone seen something first hand I always chalk it up to overzealous fans letting their imaginations go wild.

To be clear, this arguement has nothing to do with Prince or the current trends in music. You can either sing or you can't. It's that simple. You either have talent or you don't . Rihanna does not. I like the songs written for her. The people who wrote those songs have musical ability and talent. This whole thing now with the Auto-tunes and computerized vocal is just a way of legalizing Milli Vanilli's for a new generation. 'Give me a pretty face and we will fake the rest!' It's the feel good version of C and C Music Factory and you don't have to suffer the guilt of not supporting the heavy chick who they didn't let into the video. And yes, I admit Rihanna is a big star. So is Kim Kardashian. So what? And really, how can you love her voice when you really don't know what her voice sounds like. It's computer generated. Go see her live and get back to me. Again, nothing to do with modern tastes or trends. It's not a trend to sound Auto-tuned. You use Auto-tunes when you can't sing in tune on your own. That's why the program was written. It's not about new or old. I saw Bruno MArs last year and he blew my head off. The guy is mega talented and puts on a jaw dropping show. That is talent ( and hard work) and it trancends any era's trends.
I really don't want to proclaim Rihanna the greatest vocalist ever, and weigh in too heavily here as it makes no odds to me what people think of her voice.
I've seen her live in 2010 (i'm guessing that was the Last Girl On Earth Tour in support of the Rated R album) and I thought she could sing very well. She did not mime, and still sounded the same as on record, had quite a bit of power in her voice on the slower ballad type numbers. I was impressed.
Just somewhere in the middle,
Not too good and not too bad.
I truly doubt that, but if it is, I will welcome it with open arms. But the Prince of today is not the same Prince as the one of the past. The Prince of the past could take an established artist llike Sheena Easton who was known for safe middle of the road stuff like "Morning Train" and harden her up and give her his sound with a hot jam like "Sugar Walls". The Prince of today would work with an established artist but instead of hardening them up and giving them his sound, he would weaken himself and work in their sound. That's the difference.
But keeping in mind that the Rihanna of today is mostly a EDM/dance-pop artist. To my ears, she had done anything close to a hip-hop/r&b track since Umbrella.

And you can add the late Rick James & Teena Marie on that list as well. In her final years, Teena was also guilty for doing the same "play it safe on urban contemporary radio with slow tempo tracks" tactic because of the misinformation that The Funk was "dead".
And Brother Andy, I know you remember years ago when I had a thread explaining my massive disappointment with Rick James' final career album sounding too much like a Sade album! Even today, I still stand by my words in saying that I like Sade, but I did NOT wanted to hear a Sade sound on a Rick James album. I wanted Rick James to sound like MF-ing Rick James, punk-funk and all.
I've very concern that Prince is going for the "play it safe" route with his music and end up disappointing some of us the same way that Ronald & Charlie are currently.

Lies! Teena NEVER changed her sound and "played it safe". She ALWAYS stayed an urban contemporary artist. She was always best known for her slow tempo tracks. That was her trademark..
will ALWAYS think of like a "ACT OF GOD"! N another realm. mean of all people who might of been aliens or angels.if found out that wasn't of this earth, would not have been that surprised. R.I.P.

Bullshit. And don't dare called me a liar. This is TonyVanDam and I'm still a true funk solider, damn you! And I know exactly what I'm talking about as much as Vainandy and every true fan of The Funk does.
I love Teena's classic slow jams as much as the next Teena-fan. But goddamn it, I'm also a even bigger fan of her funk hits!
And excuse you Kcool, but Teena was NOT making anymore funk tracks like she used to during her days with Motown Records & Epic Records. As a matter of fact, she did NOT ever have any funk tracks at all with the only two albums she did for Cash Money/Universial Records. Before she died, Teena was doing the same thing the Ronald Isley AND Charlie Wilson are still doing now, which is "play it safe" by only doing slow jams and forsaking any opportunity of making new funk tracks.
How come Prince never gives songs to male artists? I bet Bruno Msrs would be ecstatic if Prince sent him several songs.
I think he enjoys writing pop songs from the female perspective from time to time. That's pretty much why I think he ended up doing "Elixir" with Bria.
He seems to prefer writing songs from the female perspective most of the time Bria,Andy,3rdEyeGirl.....enough already! Give a few songs to Bruno Mars...some really funky jams!

All that fuss for something that is probably as "good" as "Baby Go-go" or "Don't Say U Love Me".
There are so many good musicians that are emerging now that music does not make huge amounts of money anymore,
except of course for supermarket muzak and all of its devoid-of-substance pathetic posers.
And he collaborates with this clown.
Prince's career looks more and more like a slo-mo car crash video. It's horrible but fascinating to look at.
The Colors R brighter, the Bond is much tighter
No Child's a failure
Until the Blue Sailboat sails him away from his dreams
Don't Ever Lose, Don't Ever Lose
Don't Ever Lose Your Dreams

If you think THAT^ song belongs in the same sentence as Behind The Groove, I'm Just A Sucker For You Love, Square Biz, It Must Be Magic, Fix It, Help Young Blood Get To The Freak Party, Once Is Not Enough, Lips To Find You, Suger Shack, and/or Here's Looking At You, then you are a naive sheep that needs to have his/her funk license revoked.

It's not fair to compare an artist past work to the present. But I see where you coming from. Plus i'm honored that you are a real fan of Lady Tee(my all time favorite female singer). I met her and her death still affects me today.
A lot of rnb artist NOW, are watering down their muziq to become more pop. LIke Usher, Charlie Wilson & Ronald Isley. That is where the real money is. Teena never did that. She may have not been as funky in her last years on earth. But even with her FIRST crossover smash "LoverGirl". She still remained funky, on that album and single. Teena was a rare soul, that was identified as a black artist. I miss her terribly. Robin Thicke reminds me a lot of Teena. So soulful and never tried to crossover to pop. Until "Blurred Lines" (you see what trouble that song has gotten him into).
Now back to & Rihanna.
