Don't really care for her music, but more power to her and more $$$ for Princey.
Prince did an interview with a woman at Record World. They talked about whatever, then he asked her: "Does your pubic hair go up to your navel?" At that moment, we thought maybe we shouldn't encourage him to do interviews.

But yeah--Prince has been slut shaming since at least Emancipation.

--------- Yes, Bart is consistent with his foolishness. He does not remember all the other bubble headed singers Prince wrote stuff for in the 80s and 90s. Prince has always written songs for bubble headed ladies. The problem here is that the music industry is filled with them and as a songwritter/producer your job is to provide the music for said bubble head singer. You want people to hear your music you sell it to people who are going to get on the radio. I love the stuff he has done with woman who can really sing but I do not see the public running out to buy that material. D'Angelo will be Prince's rival when he can get to 38 Albums

Yep...nod

I would add that Rihanna is actually an improvement over the aforementioned bubbleheads that he gave plenty of material to in the past.

Prince, in you I found a kindred spirit...Rest In Paradise.

Everyone is already prejudiced against this collaboration without even hearing the song. That in itself speaks volumes about the posters, and nothing about the actual song. I liked Rihanna's song Stay, and other of her music that I've heard. Anyway, is there any info about when this will be out?
Stay is a good song but the kudos go to the song writer. Fianna kareoked that mess. Maybe in prince parlance it might b better to say she morris day'd it...or maybe she 'Apple'd it... [Edited 2/23/15 10:50am]

"Stay" was written by this guy.....who was on Letterman last week, and killed....

which makes me wonder if Rihanna has ever written a song before

Rihanna can't sing a lick without the aid of AUTO-tunes. Why Prince would choose to give her a song is beyond comprehension.

You should listen to the original Manic Monday duet with Appolonia, or the whole Carmen Electra album.

My point exactly; I didn't bother. Waste of time. Was dragged to Rihanna live once. I can say with authority she can not sing without Auto-Tunes. She has no business being the caliber of star she is. Just insane that Mr 'Real music by real musicians,' would turn around and get mixed up with her.

Man that sounds so out of touch

Please explain how it's out of touch to expect singers to be able to actually be able to sing . . . . just a little bit at least ?

For the most part, when Prince chooses female artists to work with,he chooses them based on their physical beauty, not their vocal talent.Let's be honest, guys lol Look at Apollonia and Vanity. There's no vocal talent there at all.But they're sexy as hell,so they got to do a record with Prince. The cycle continues in 2015 with Rihanna, lol.

I hear a lot of people talk about other artists here on the org in dismissive ways. Obvious that they have no real knowledge of what they are talking about. If you actually ever listened to her music you would not be so dismissive. She is on her way to being not just a star but an icon.
Listen to "Stay" with an open mind and tell me the girl can't sing. Listen to her music and tell me the girl isn't rightly a star.

One of the tracks on the last Larry Graham album was I believe written by Prince (Shoulda Coulda Woulda from 2012). He's uncredited but he plays all instruments but the bass and its just sounds completely like something Prince would have written in his sleep. But yeah, outside of Larry and the one track he did for George Clinton in the 00's he hasnt give much to guys in recent years. The Original7 decision I think came from personal reasons though.

I haven't heard the song, but it wouldn't surprise me at all if the track was bad and Rhianna wanted it anyway just because Prince's name is attatched. Prince could write a song for almost anybody and they would include it on the album, just because he is a legend. It's surprising that no music came out of the Beyonce/Prince friendship a few years ago. Hopefully it's a good song though and the beginning of better things for Prince.

It has been highly speculated, that Beyonce used an unreleased prince track 4 one of her commercials. It undeniably had his intricate sound. But strangely was never released.

[Edited 2/24/15 7:30am]

Is it this one? I said a while back that the outtake Our Destiny would have been perfect for an artist like Rihanna.

I think he enjoys writing pop songs from the female perspective from time to time. That's pretty much why I think he ended up doing "Elixir" with Bria.

Yo Vain...u my man and all. But u gotta retire that "shit hopper" barb...lol....Rihanna has been known to dabble in hip-hop from time to time. But 'ol girl is as pop as Madonna and edgier than Paula. Prince hooking up with Rihanna makes perfect sense given his history of working with pop starlets....

I agree and would love to, but how can you retire something that applied in the 1990s and still applies in the 2010s? I agree, enough is enough, and when that ridiculous genres retires, or at least stops dominating mainstream R&B, I'll gladly retire the term. I'm the one that has always wanted change. Too bad the music world doesn't.

I truly doubt that, but if it is, I will welcome it with open arms. But the Prince of today is not the same Prince as the one of the past. The Prince of the past could take an established artist llike Sheena Easton who was known for safe middle of the road stuff like "Morning Train" and harden her up and give her his sound with a hot jam like "Sugar Walls". The Prince of today would work with an established artist but instead of hardening them up and giving them his sound, he would weaken himself and work in their sound. That's the difference.

Apparently, he's been living in "star" land too long and wishes he was on the same level in the mainstream as he used to be. Hell, look at all the awards shows he's been on lately where he had absolutely no business there at all. He wasn't receiving awards but he was constantly making little two minute apperances to present awards in a room full of little kiddies with him standing up there looking like a big dumb overgrown kid in school that flunked several grades and was held back in class with the little kiddies.

.

From the samples I've heard lately, Nile Rodgers is the one that's going to have hot new music in the near future with his new Chic album, not Prince. And if Prince wants to work with the little kiddies, Harts would be an excellent choice since he sounds like he was influenced by Prince and doesn't sound like everything else out there these days. But then again, working with folks like this wouldn't put Prince back in the mainstream that he seems so desperate to get back into these days even though the mainstream of today is not worthy of having someone like Prince in it. He's becoming a sellout and seems to be on the same path as Ronald Isley and Charlie Wilson who have made music so weak in their solo careers, they would need Viagra to get the hard funk back in them.
