Doesn't that WB deal last year seem like a cruel April fool's joke now? What happened to the PR deluxe and the treasure strove of Unreleased material. I thought the flood gates were going to open up. It seems like it was all a cruel joke right now.. It's almost a year later with empty promises.. I'm surprised we even got those 2 new albums last year. BOB4theFUNK

Yep. It played out pretty much exactly as I thought it would at the time when fams were going crazy about the good things to come. I still don't think, in Prince's lifetime, we are ever getting remasters, outtakes, reunions or anything that doesn't strictly conform to JW beliefs.

He just released TWO albums a few months ago.
The new single, "This Could Be Us" from one of those records, is going to radio now. |

Are there any details on the WB deal? As far as I know the details are very limited. [Edited 1/18/15 13:53pm]

Why are some of you even remotely expecting Prince to follow thru on anything? Haven't you learned that he walks to the beat of his own drum?
This is so 2002. | |

What's interesting is if Wb is goin to distribute also his next album, but I quess it won't happen if Prince refuse to release PR remaster Welcome 2 The Dawn

^^^And with this level of pretentiousness, we're supposed to expect something epic out of this "deal" with WB? I would not be offended if P would just stay far away from the reissue projects. Just release new music.

Meh...excuses. Prince and WB announced PR and outtakes were coming out last year and didn't deliver. End of story.

I guess we'll never know what happened, but it's pretty clear that relations between Prince and WB soured very soon around the time of the release of both albums. Hardly any promo, the non-release of the "Funk'N'Roll" video/single. Who knows from here on...but it doesn't look good...

Honestly,I think Prince just signed that deal so that he could get his master recordings.I doubt that we're gonna see too much more from this arrangement.Prince got what he wanted, now he'll try to ease his way out of it,lol
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
he can't ease out of it.
that's the beauty of a contact. wouldn't it be great if WB ended up with paisley park? Stop the Prince Apologists ™

My take is Prince is infuriated by WB now having an "exclusive licence" on the old masters. Sure he owns them back and he therefore makes more money with sales, but in the end he's still not free to do whatever he wants with them (i.e. licence them to whomever he pleases and rerelease them the way he wants, or not at all). So he's trying to make the PR remaster release as delayed, difficult and painful as possible for WB, and he'll do that for everything WB will wish to remaster and rerelease, hoping they'll eventually get sick and tired of him and let him go out of the compulsary licence as soon as possible. Just a theory, but when u know P it makes kinda sense doesn't it? A COMPREHENSIVE PRINCE DISCOGRAPHY (work in progress ^^): https://sites.google.com/...scography/

Look at the way Prince has treated all his album releases since Musicology. They're bargaining chips and nothing more.

Exactly, after their rocky history together I can't imagine WB signing a new deal with Prince without making sure all 'escape routes' are covered. Surely they will have made very clear arrangements about what will be delivered at which moment in time. I am still hopeful for remasters, it might take a bit longer than expected though. RIP Prince: thank U 4 a funky Time...

In retrospect, it seems strange that he was promoting the fuck out of Purple Rain in 2004 when no remaster was forthcoming. The Grammy performance celebrating 20 years of PR, the Musicology tour, in which he performed almost the entire PR album every night, the 20th Anniversary DVD of the movie. I feel like I'm forgetting something. And of course now that a remaster is (supposedly) forthcoming, he doesn't want to have shit to do with PR. "That's when stars collide. You ain't lying. And that shit he released a few months ago, he could have kept that bullshit to himself. Andy is a four letter word.

"long-awaited, previously unheard music" - yes, that could be take 6 of Happy Birthday, Mr Christian, or the (terrible) full-length/original versions of The Beautiful Ones and Purple Rain. But I think not. Stop the Prince Apologists ™
