He didn't say anything wrong. I am sure he was referencing the current state of affairs with police brutality and racial profiling, towards many in communities of color, in many cities throughout the U.S. Many Americans from all racial groups stood and are still standing against that together in protest.

Also, it's the kind of non-sequitur he loves to throw around to appear spiritually and politically deep.

I don't think it is a matter of him appearing like that, when even in his music over the yesrs, he has always injected spirituality and socio-political concerns/interests.

Prince was right on. Books? YES! Albums? YES! Black lives? YES! Anyone who has an issue with what Prince said should examine their priorities and mindset.

Exactly. People often complain that Prince doesn't speak clearly and plainly, yet still manage to complain when he does.

Black lives still matter ? Why wouldn't it matter ? he could have say " fire is hot" or "water is wet". It's a silly parallel he made between albums and black lives. Album market is about to end, and his owns album are flops. He doesn't even defend his albums. Prince should have stay at home.

PLEASE GET RID OF THE FRO

IT LOOKS SO MESSY

Prince has had so many attractive looks in the past, I really wish he could just step back and borrow a little from there. No need to go Graffiti Bridge waves+beard again, but maybe even hair extensions on the flattened/blown out fro? IDK. Just please, please Prince, get rid of it

I was disappointed at his short time on stage (eh..) but Twitterville+social media went crazy about it so kudos to P for making celebs starstruck

The afro actually looked very full and fluffy

.

I was disappointed that there was no 'surprise' of any kind

I think it's sad that Prince still sees color.

All lives matter.

He's living off his past and less than 1% of people watching him can name 2 songs off his newest albums but he feels the need to say the obvious because... he cares.

I don't think it is sad that he sees color, especially when some bad cops and some people judge many in communities of color negatively, based on race. There would be no need to say that, if we didn't live in a society intentionally built on the system of racism. Right now racial profiling and police brutality have been major issues of protest in communities of color in America, and folks from all walks of life/racial backgrounds, have been standing together in protest, as of late on these issues. Especially since the deaths of Eric, Tamir, Trayvon and Michael, to show that Black lives do matter, and shouldn't be treated as though respect towards them should be obsolete.

--- Because it is mainly people of color being abused!!! How is this movement any different than the Civil Rights movement of the sixties which had black people being denied their Civil Rights and many different races protesting and helping. Saying "Black Lives" matter is not excluding anyone it is just that other races lives are not on the line.

But that's the point..Black lives are part of the human species, and deserves to be acknowledged as such, and should not be treated or viewed as 'invisible' in the eyes of many within society, but I am sure some would like it that way.

In MARZ he's clearly saying more loudly that black lives should matter more to black folk, who let M&M killers and other knuckleheads ruin their lives families and communtities.

His statement last night when he mentioned 'Black Lives', in his comments, seemed to reference support against racial profiling and police brutality, and the recent shootings of 3 unarmed Black males by police officers.

What do you think about Prince saying so at the Grammys? I loved it. It is the kind of thing Prince does that has made me love him for over 3 decades.

[Edited 2/8/15 20:08pm]

Prince's statement was succinct and timely. Have we forgotten about Eric Garner, Michael Brown, or any of the other Black men and women who have died unnecessarily at the hands of police officers in this country? Have we forgotten about the Ferguson riots and subsequent marches throughout America last year? How could anyone have a problem with Prince's statement? I swear, if Prince had said, "The sun will rise tomorrow," someone on the org would shout him down for being too cheery or optimistic. The man doesn't stand a chance on this "fan" site. Fill the hole with love, my brothers and sisters, not hate.

That wouldnt be dismissive and insensitive if the issues around black lives were not completely different than those associated with non black lives. Black men are 21 times more likely to be killed by police than whites. But this isnt the forum - I started the thread because I thought it was cool that Prince and only Prince delivered such impact with only a few words.

The Grammys this emyear was based on raising social consciousness of specific societal ills. With the hands up showing solidarity against racial profiling, police brutality and domestic violence against women.

The society will continued to decline. Books and albums are a thing of the past. People are more stupid than ever. The truth if books no longer matter, lives not mattering will follow. Anyone can go on twitter and complain but the truth is you(society as a whole) continue to eat junk food can you expect to be healthy?

Yeah pretty much lol, but also shows his concern for the Black community as a whole. His comment was timely to the current state of affairs of police brutality and racial profiling in America. Unfortunately some, not all, will always take issue with Prince showing support for the Black community.
