Thank you. Starting this thread has proven to be somewhat of an catharsis and a verification of my hypothesis over the last 50 years that black people are still the least valued and least respected in the world.

Purple Rain the prequal
http://www.startribune.co...27586.html
As youth leader for Park Avenue United Methodist Church -- where Prince had his first wedding in 1996 -- Art Erickson saw him almost every day throughout his teens. Prince came to play ball, and also went to church camp. Erickson made the rounds at local schools, so he often would join Prince at lunch. Blacks, whites and biracial kids segregated themselves, and Prince normally sat with the biracial kids, Erickson said.

I love Prince for what he said at the Grammys. The comment about sitting with biracial kids posted above is pointless and obviously written by someone who doesn't understand what its like to be African American in this country and identified as "different" within our community. Biracial kids probably accepted this 5'2" genious with a huge 'fro and perhaps the more alpha elements of his Minneapolis community were busy teasing him or trying to kick his ass. Colorism is real and there are winners and losers everyday....ask a truly aware and authentic Black person. Prince is a fully conscious person of African descent....more power to him for trying to communicate this the best way he can.

I was thinking about a thread on identity and I believe Prince has always connected via the feminine in different ways along with the whole 'twin' element he has always expressed not to mention even how he duplicates himself via the protege

The only thing with that, is that isn't even Prince's words. He just replicated something whites and black out marching were saying in the streets since the summer of 2014

oh stop I've been clear from the get go that it's peoples reaction 1 way or the other to those words (Prince repeated) it's how people act like the word of God spoke through Prince when Prince as we've said just repeated something people in the streets and protests were saying since 2014

I think, especially back in Prince's day, that there was no bi-racial clique. Kids had to choose one - go black, or go white, or go home. What?

ZsaZsa you are right. I'm 3 years younger than Prince and try to imagine myself at Central HS (Isn't that where he went?) in Minneapolis, MN and what I might have thought about the guy. I can relate to the hoops photo because thats how we looked back then & I can imagine I would have related to him as an athlete before anything else....if he could ball he would be cool with me. But there are lots of haters for whom that wouldn't be enough and this could inspire all kinds of jealousy. I remember being the basketball player who got identified as a "the nerd" of the team even though I was good enough to be MVP....the MVP cancelled out the "the nerd" stuff because that would have set me up for much ridicule. Anyway, I understand some of what Prince when through because we are part of the same generation. Also...you are right "biracial" was just "high yellow Black" in our day.....even though Prince is not a first-generation biracial person.

I've always thought it was a given that P is bi but not racial. Of course in African American circles to be bi is to be talked about so I can also understand why he is extremely strategic about any discussion around sexual orientation.....but its clear he has some well-intergrated femine traits balanced out by the masculine. Bowie can stand up and say it.....but African American and to an extent Latino entertainers have to make the obvious invisible I guess due our own immaturity?

Stop trying to 'punk' other people out of discussions you don't like. Stop trying to PUNK by using terms and words like 'Butt Hurt' wtf does that mean anyway...
I will continue in whatever discussion I choose until I'm done with it or it locks. Like everyone on the org has the freedom too oooh I'm hurt. please

True, 'biracial' wasn't a term used then. But there were still and always has been acknowledged differences in 'mixed' 'not mixed' a and it was not uncommon for 'whose mixture was more pronounced' to gather together, marry etc I use mixed(not biracial) but 'light skinned Black' is an oxymoron
