If these reports are correct, I do believe we may agree on this one. These 3 kids seem to have been shot for no other reason than their religious beliefs. Sad.

The problem is when people like you, who think like you, equate the Trayvon's and Mike Brown's with these 3 kids. Polar opposite situations. TM and MB both attacked their shooters. But, you dismiss that notion, and when you do, you do an injustice to these 3 kids and everyone in their situation, including black kids.

Don't try it, your weak insults will not change my opinion on the murder of Mike and Trayvon. But since you brought it into this thread...Both Trayvon and Mike were unarmed males, where Trayvon's killer racially profiled and stalked him until he killed him. Mike Brown, unarmed, ran from the officer after being shot once, then tried to stopped running, put his hands up in surrender mode, and at the same time the cop ignored Mike's with his hands up in surrender mode, and still pumped 12 bullets into Mike's body, killing him, then left Mike's body laying in the street for almost 4 hours. Stop trying to use Trayvon and Mike's murder to cover for the the racist bastard that shot and killed those Muslim students. That's a cheap way to excuse their killer's actions. Now getting back on topic, you now accuse Prince of being racist and pro-black with his statement because he said albums, books and Black lives matter, all in one sentence. Now let me guess which part of that statement angered you? Lol I mean it is pretty clear in your signature line, how angry you are about that or you wouldn't have posted that rant in your signature line. Lol. [Edited 2/15/15 5:49am]

seems to me that people who bring up the subject of black on black crime only bust in on a thread that mentions cops on black misconduct and killings.

why not start a thread about black on black crime instead of going off topic? might be surprised by some of the replies and how many people ARE in reality concerned.

It is just amazing when some folks don't like to hear the truth about racial profiling, and holding bad cops accountable for killing unarmed Black males/children, they use the excuse about black on black crime, to justify racial profiling and cops killing unarmed Black males.

None of that justifies cops killing unarmed Black youth and mistreating innocent Blacks, when police enter commnuniies of color. If all lives matter then a Black child should be free to walk down a street to buy candy, without being stalked and because of his skin color and labeled a possible criminal.

Furthermore, no one is discounting crime within black communities, no more than they are discounting some white man shooting up a school full of white kids in his community. Only difference is the media doesn't cast a negative, generalized shadow, on the entire white community to the point members of their community get racially profiled, based on a crime committed by one of their own, vs how the media and many in the public, are quick to demonize the Black community on crimes committed by one of theirs. So I can't by your bs.

Best thing is social awareness is being raised on this issue, and some progress is being made.

Don't beg. It shows your desperation. You hate that bad police are being called out on their actions against Black citizens. I love that it irritates you that masses of people from all racial backgrounds are forcing and demanding change, and dialogue on these issues, and many more are raising social awareness on this.

Your extreme bitterness towards this issue is holding you mentally captive. Break free from your prejudice and set that bitter soul free dude.Your hate on this issue is eating at your spirit, and your hate towards this issue will not prevail. comfort

Every time Prince struts onstage to present at one of these shows, the crowd goes nuts — and not just because he's a mercurial genius who dresses like Clarence Williams on The Mod Squad. Resplendent in a Creamsicle-colored number, and clutching a cane, Prince was given the relatively dry task of presenting the Grammy for Album of the Year, though he still managed to work in a couple of great lines. First, he shot the elephant in the room, joking, "Albums, remember those?" while a grin creased his face. Then, he managed to make a statement that spoke louder than any show-closing number, adding, "Like books and black lives, albums still matter," as the crowd whooped in approval. And finally, he was smart enough to extricate himself from Kanye's awkward stage invasion as Beck readied his speech. Thirty years after Purple Rain, he's still one of the most brilliant guys in the room.

The Distorted Exaggeration of Black-on-Black Crime Ignores Much of the United States' Criminality
Thursday, 15 January 2015 09:20 By Adam Hudson, AlterNet | News Analysis

Ongoing protests against police brutality have revealed how distorted the American discourse on crime is. The biggest myth animating this discourse is black criminality: the notion that black people commit more crime, and therefore deserve more heavy-handed policing. Just a few weeks ago, on NBC’s Meet the Press, former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani chided the network, saying, “I find it very disappointing that you're not discussing the fact that 93 percent of blacks in America are killed by other blacks.” Persistent black-on-black crime “is the reason for the heavy police presence in the black community,” he continued. After a heated exchange with author and commentator Michael Eric Dyson, who pushed back against his arguments, Giuliani responded, “White police officers won't be there if you weren't killing each other 70 percent of the time.”

This myth relies on shaky evidence and a selective definition of crime that ignores crimes committed by powerful institutions and the people who run them, many of whom are white men.

Blaming the crime problem on black people is unfair and ill-founded. On one hand, according to FBI homicide data, African Americans commit more homicides than other racial groups. In 2013, there were 5,375 black homicide offenders versus 4,396 who were white and over 4,000 whose races were unknown. However, that is a very small percentage of the national black population, which is over 40 million people. The vast majority of black people do not commit any crimes.

Moreover, so-called black-on-black crime has decreased over the decades. In the past 20 years, black-on-black homicides decreased by 67 percent—a sharper decline than white-on-white homicide—and "[a]mong black youth, rates of robbery and serious property offenses are the lowest in more than 40 years," according to Demos. Throughout the country, crime has continuously fallen since the 1990s. Plus, black-on-black crime is hardly unique. Most crime is intra-racial. Around 90 percent of black homicide victims are killed by black offenders, while white people kill each other at roughly the same rate.

Black people are hardly oblivious of the crime within their communities. According to polling, African Americans are concerned about and organize against the crime that exists in their neighborhoods. The roots of crime in the black community are structural. Crime is caused by socioeconomic factors rather than cultural pathologies or inherent criminality, despite what peddlers of the black criminality myth would have you believe. Many studies have shown that poverty and inequality contribute greatly to crime and other social ills. Continuously high unemployment, entrenched poverty, bleak educational opportunities, racial segregation, economic inequality, generations of trauma, and societal neglect create the cycles of desperation that provide kindling for pervasive crime in black communities. One Oakland city official told me last year that many young offenders experience "violence, neglect, abuse against them" earlier in their lives, which leads to "the victim becoming the victimizer."

Yet public perceptions and biases associate black people with criminality—an association that dates back to slavery. Black African slaves were assumed to be inherently violent and immoral, a justification slave masters used to exert brutal control over them. These methods of control included torture, armed slave patrols that monitored, arrested, and violently beat free or enslaved black Africans, and lynching during the Jim Crow era.

American discourse on crime is deeply politicized and influenced by racial and class bias. “Crime” is synonymous with “black.” In news reports and TV shows about crime, the criminal is usually a black person, especially a black male. But as legal expert and author Lisa Bloom points out in her book Suspicion Nation: The Inside Story of the Trayvon Martin Injustice and Why We Continue to Repeat it, many mass killings and heinous crimes — such as the 1995 Oklahoma City bombing that killed 168 people and the 2012 theater shooting in Aurora, Colorado that killed 12 moviegoers — are committed by white people. White people are also the ones most frequently arrested for crimes like rape, robbery, assault, forgery, and fraud. Yet unlike black people, white people are not collectively blamed for violent crimes committed by people who look like them.

Missing from American discourse on crime are those abuses committed by the powerful. War crimes, human rights abuses, violations of international law and the US Constitution, and corporate and financial crimes are regularly carried out by governments, large corporations, and people with wealth and political clout. These crimes harm large numbers of people but are largely ignored and mostly go unpunished.

The FBI’s Uniform Crime Reports — the official national crime database—leaves out many corporate and state crimes, while largely emphasizing street crimes. It tracks some white-collar crimes, like fraud and embezzlement, but leaves out many others, like money-laundering and human rights abuses or civil liberties violations. These infractions are tracked elsewhere, but extra digging is required to find the information. Such discrepancies have a serious effect on how the public perceives what is and is not a crime.

Black lives do matter. Margaret Sanger, progressive hero and founder of Planned Parenthood, said she wanted to "exterminate the Negro population." Most PP's are located in or near minority communities. Does that matter to you? But I digress...

.

I'm all about truth, stats, numbers. If Prince had said "Black lives matter...so let's stop killing each other in places like Chicago and Detroit," that would have made more sense based on actual, real facts. But that's not as politically sexy in our unhinged PC society, is it? There is an epidemic of black-on-black murders. And it's tragic. But there is not an epidemic of cops killing black people. That being said, even one instance of police brutality is one too many. Like what happened to Dillon Taylor. (And if you have to google Dillon Taylor then I've made my point like a motha furtha.) But when so-called black leaders like Sharpton and celebrities like Prince perpetuate a skewed reality while at the same time ignore what's happening in their own communities, then what Prince said is overall more polarizing than helpful. Did you know there are many black-mob-on-white attacks in the U.S. that are ignored by the media? Straight up hate crimes being unreported every year. Gee, I wonder why. Where's the justice? But it's all about the feels -- amiright, social justice warriors? Speaking the truth these days has become akin to hate speech. For example, watch how I get flamed for this post.

.

DOJ stats show that overwhelmingly blacks commit more violent crimes against whites than the reverse (by pop. %). But I wouldn't get on a stage and say "white lives matter." It doesn't help the situation and it's just bad taste. It would just piss off black people who were trying to do something about it.

.

And this "hands up, don't shoot" thing is insanity. That did not happen. Even several black witnesses said so. But again, anything to polarize. It's reckless and irresponsible. And just maybe it motivated the POS who executed those two NYPD cops in their car. (Which was then celebrated on social media.) This perpetuation of lies really only benefits -- with power, money and votes -- certain black leaders and politicians by keeping us divided. Think about it.

.

I get so tired of people trashing this country; people who see racism around every corner. Instead of healing it's opening up old wounds. We've made amazing progress in a very short time. Name one other nation in history that not only went to war with itself over slavery, but came out on the right side morally -- and still went on to prosper like no other. White people killing white people over slavery. Ain't that some shit?

.

I won't be following up after this post. I can see that many on here are drinking the same koolaid and I won't waste my time engaging. Been there done that. This place is almost as bad as tumblr with all the SJW silliness. I'll just sit back and wait for that PR remastered set that will never come.

.

The truth matters.

Please read post #295. Yet again, you are wrong. No surprise, as you still believe in the "hand up, don't shoot" lie. It's blatant and keeps the pot stirring. But, you do you.

Break free from your prejudice and set that bitter soul free dude.Your hate on this issue is eating at your spirit, and your hate towards this issue will not prevail. comfort [Edited 2/15/15 11:06am]

wink

It is almost as if I wrote this for Rolling Stone. Perfect analysis

No - it is not. Because "Black Lives Matter" is not a rejection of the relevance of other lives. When people decide to be intelligent and logical enough to understand and accept that, it becomes quite simple. The reason people have to say Black Lives Matter is that only black lives are ended with the frequency and disregard tat we have seen through the years in America. Because a black male is 21 times more likely to be killed by police. This doesn't mean that white, brown, yellow, or red lives dont matter - intelligent people understand that all lives matter. It means that black lives seem to matter LESS in our society - and the facts seem to support it. That is the TRUTH - acknowledged or not.

WOW! you said it all. nod

'cause i have a friend who has a son and she is so fearful of his safety. he's a good person, graduated from highschool, attending a jr college currently and has never been in any trouble. yet when she reads about all the trayvon martins, oscar grants and the 13yr old hispanic boy - Andy Lopez that was shot (8 times by a weapon training officer - who is back on duty), she is in constant worry for the safety of her african american son.

mothers and fathers should not have to worry about their male sons because of some loose cannon, over zealous, racially profiling cops. cops are suppose to be here to protect and serve, not kill unjustly and cause racial tension in our country.

sad

anyway, what you posted is right on point.

I think the problem is the only thing that matters to many people is taking care of "their own".

First they came for the Native Americans, and I did not speak out—
Because I am not a Native American.

Then they came for the Asians, and I did not speak out—
Because I am not an Asian.

Then they came for the Caucasians, and I did not speak out—
Because I am not a Caucasian.

Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.
