He is not my favorite but is in top 5. He was my favorite in the 90s but since then has fallen. I have seen him live more than any other artist though.

I'm a fan of Bowie and Springsteen. But we are talking about MUSICIAN here, not stage performer, overall artist, songwritter etc

Come on, I love Bruce but play with D / A / G / Bm and C and you have most of his tunes.

To answer the question: he is in my top 6 with Miles Davis, Stan Getz, Wes Montgomery, Sly Stone and Stevie Wonder.

Yes, because after becoming a fan, I explored his influences and was open to discovering other artists and "genres," and listened to the artists I grew up listening to (which included many of his influences) in a new light.

Dunno, it kinda feels reductive to even have such a thing as a "favourite" musician, given that my tastes have changed so considerably in the past, I feel they could easily change again and someone else could replace Prince at the top of the pedestal I would have artificial raised him to. I mean, if you asked me at various times in the past who my favourite artist was, I would have said Joni Mitchell, or Hendrix, or The Velvet Underground, or a few others (weirdly I used to be really into Thin Lizzy). I enjoy Prince's music immensely, but I can't predict how my taste will evolve in the future.
