You guys are so moving, trying to save from the trash this poor "Johnny Talk 2 Russia" reboot.

Johnny Talk 2 Russia is not great because it was composed in 1981, it's great because :

- The man screams his lungs out, like armaggedon means something.

- Repetitive lyrics, which is one of the major requisites for being qualified as "punk".

- Electro-Rockabilly is a style that only Prince has attempted and successfully realized.
- The machine gun effects are top notch.

- Great solo.

Marz does not suck because it was composed in 2015, it sucks because :

- Vocally, it's a decal from Plastic Bertrand's Ça Plane Pour Moi.

- No one cares about punk in 2015.

- Instead of a guitar solo, we get a dull bridge.

- The lyrics are childish, and carry no real politic message of any kind.

- "Everybody in the world wants to be a star, Few got what it takes to get that far" : further proof that Prince is still mentally stuck in the eighties.

No, Prince, in 2015, no sane person wants to be a star anymore and add more garbage to the system.
And if you're talking to youngsters addicted to reality shows or fake competitions like American Idol,
well, they're not listening to you, so what's the point?

Now Johnny clocks at 1:58. Marz clocks at 1:48.

There is a lot more happening on Johnny, and not because od these extra 10 seconds.
The only "punk" thing Marz can reclaim is a Ramones song timing, that's all.

Now, on haterz :

I think you are mistaken a great deal. Like The Velvet Underground made everyone who bought their first album

to pull up a rock band of their own, similarly Prince has brought a lot of kids to build a home studio (a drum machine and a 4-track tape recorder).

It's fair to say that most of the people who criticize here know a thing or two about music, and that they have eclectic music tastes.
So when we bash the guy, it's rightfully so.

Now I can understand why you need so badly to project yourself into Prince, and think that he's some kind of God
who is totally in charge and aware of what he's doing : Prince has become the definitive "what if" musician,

worse than Big Star, Love, or Karen Dalton and such.

I can't think of no one who spilled as much milk as he did.
And sadly he seems keen on following this path until the end.

It's sad because of outside of commercial issues, AOA would have deserve to get to the 2015 audience,

because it is an album of schizophrenia and paranoia disguised as pop songs.

There is some substance to it.

Marz has the same dull, vulgar, artificial taste of the Kraft Foods® chocolate bar.
Looks and tastes like shit.

He did loads of TV for Rave, he did a fair bit for musicology then as you said staged a huge US tour which drew in more attention. With 3121 he aimed more at the Hollywood party scene but it led to lots of stories in the press and online. Even Lotusflow3r he ended up on Leno 3 nights running? and I think went on Ellen to play "Crimson and Clover" there might even have been some TV in Europe.

As it stands Prince gets more coverage presenting an award than releasing new music.

No Lotus Tour, no TV spots 3 weeks after it was out. In a few months in, it was $4.99. In less than a year it was 99 cents at some Target stores, and even 49 cents in others. A few tiny shows in Europe, the 3 LA shows...but nothing on the scale of Musicology. Wasted opportunity. Rave was dead in the

water due to the issues at Arista, and the inability to release So Far So Pleased. His TV spots were

mangled with poor sounding versions of the songs. Only Baby Knows even sounded close to the song..

Love this song. The video is fine. Prince always seems to want people to LISTEN to music and in this case also HEAR the lyrics which are crystal clear on this song (unlike some other songs). Other acts desperately need overproduced video to get their message across — if they even have moral/social a message.

Powerful. Rocking. Trippy — he want to take us on a trip, journey back into his African American social political passions — the type of music most pop stars reject and most black rappers don't do effectively or with clear heads. He already called out rappers on FIX... for their (and other's) misogyny.

Here he touches on the plight of black men in the US — not in some big pity party #Ferguson etc — "we're so helpless, theMan is responsible for ALL of our problems, but we need theMan to help us solve our problems b/c we couldn't possibly do it ourselves”.

Instead he ridicules that segment of un/undereducated black males for making a lot of stupid easy choices in life (no work ethic, joining gangs, getting arrested for stupid tihsaggin) — in hopes they’ll make better choices.

As somebody pointed out, when it got down to $1, the sales still counted. When it got down to 49 cents, the sales still counted. I would bet that maybe 300,000 of those sales were at 12.98. There were TV commercials, and the Tonight Show stuff, but the only thing that drove that album after week 3 was the price.

True there was no tour Lotus tour, But 3 TV spots on Leno consecutively then he did Ellen, then Travis, then back to Leno. 4 songs on a TV show in France and 3 concerts in France and LA. It's not like he did nothing. Oh and the Verizon commercial. I'd almost say thats quite a lot for such a limited release. (We didn't even get that album released in the UK)

Im not sure the price drop did that much for sales of LF did it? I imagine by week 3 the album was already sliding out the charts? Prince tends to get the majority of sales week 1 and 2. Without a hit single to propel the album sales won't grow much from there.

As for Rave - The TV spots were boring because TGRES live was just boring - Prince singing a long slow song over a keyboard loop. I was watching all the old RAVE tv spots the other day after another thread on here. Prince is visibly bored singing that song, he even stops one performance and says something to the effect of "fuck it - I feel like Prince tonight". The sound is fine on most of them the songs just weren't good. The "Motherless Child" performance however, was a career highlight IMO.

With AOA he's performed a third of the song "clouds?"

The rest of his TV stuff has been in aid of PlectrumElectrum.

It was great to speak with people who were knowlegable about Prince music as well as all genres of music as well. One thing that was clear to me was that because Prince music encompasses many types many types of music everyone has their own favor Prince genre of Music. Europeans Loved the "Gold" Album while it the least favorite of most Americans. American love "Sign of the Times" while most Europeans found it over-rated.

Another thing I realize is that Europeans do not ALWAYS get what the songs are about because things can be lost in translation. A very smart guy I met from Europe who had listen to Prince since the 80's and was a super fan did not know "Tamborine" from Around the World in a Day was about masterbation.

"Marz" is a comentary about the African American situation in America that is very real to me and the lyrics are very timely especially with police brutality and current lack of employment opportunities that many people struggle with on a daily basis.

I thought maybe I'll help you understand

Lost my job at Mickie D's Mickies D's is slang for McDonald which is a minimal wage low paying job
4 giving away 2 much food 4 free
But I couldn't watch another black child go 2 school
With nothing to eat That should be self explanatory, but there is a lot of poverty and hunger in African American Community so while he was actually committing a crime he was helping his community the best he could and lost his only means of income at the time by doing this.
7 of us then took 2 the streets Alternative for African American can be few so Street life consisting of Selling drugs, sports or entertainment are highly sought out
Raised by the music, fed by the beat
C-ing how long we could stay outta jail is how we'd
That's how we'd compete African Americans are 13% of the US population, African American make up 46% of the prison population, so instead of competing for careers avoiding prison is the goal of life.

We never owned the streets that we keep defending This speaks of gang activity killing each other over neighborhood be it for drug selling or pride
So the $ we got we just end up spending Because of lack of not having things growing up, when some poor African Americans finally get some money they spend it of flashy crap
With nothing 2 save & not a thing 4 lending

U're never really happy Kanye West is perfect example where he is cleary not happy at times even with his success
Just really good
At pretending

Everybody in the world wants 2 b a star So Entertainment is another way that African Americans try to beat poverty so everyone wants to be a Rapper
Few got what it takes 2 get that far Very few can actually do this
If a rocketship didn't cost more than a car
A brother might move
2 Marz Moving to Mars is as good as any alternative or opportunity that an African American may have.

The songs that I may like the most you may hate the most. So when it comes down to it, it's about opinion or the ability identfy with the artist. If it took Chris Thomas "a great deal of work to get the sex pistols sound that he couldn't reproduce because the fizzled mighty quickly. The Ramones and the Clash did it better with the same 2 or 3 chords any way, Nevermind the Bulllocks

Do you want Prince to Rule the Charts again like he did in the past? The Music Industry isn't bult like that anymore. An act like Phil Collins probably couldn't be successful these days just beacuse of his looks.

Just because your hating ass don't like it doesn't mean that it's not good. Please why don't put out a record if you could do better.

I think Your album would be on the left
