Agreed. The video fits the song. PE is a great little album I'm just starting to get my head around. Its not for all tastes but neither was the Black Album. Most record labels are pimping artists with high quality, high cost videos, pushing the SAME sounds at the audience, all to make MONEY. Prince is unique and cares nothing about what people think.

I guess they had these cheap videos just sitting there, so they decided to release them. Too bad the album has already been forgotten by the majority populous, and ignored by those aware. The populous wants the Purple Rain Remaster Deluxe Edition, NOT this mediocre crap, from an already flopped mediocre (crappy) album. I thought WB wanted to make some $$$....oh well.

My best guess here is that lawyers have been consulted on all sides, and WB and Prince are positioning themselves, for when Prince inevitably tries to weasal out of his contract for the back catalog:

"You can't say I didn't do my part. I bought ads for "This Could Be Us", performed live on a national network television show, particiated in a live QandA on Facebook, Tweeted, Livestreamed a release party and provided you with multiple music videos. Release my next album."

"Oh yeah, you can't say I didn't do my part. I bought billboards in major media markets, featured you prominently on our website, bought you coverage in several major magazines and I held my nose and released those second rate video clips. Bitch give me Purple Rain."

It's just my opinion, but one thing seems consistent since Prince reupped with WB: He is doing the ABSOLUTE minimum every step along the way. He ain't happy with the deal. Who here actually thinks Prince read the contract with WB, before he signed it? I don't. I bet he assumed they would pay for shit they are not contractually obligated to and he's giving them shit over it. Meanwhile they are putting the squeeze on him to get out of the way and push the remasters project.

^^^That's pure speculation.

He did only answer one question after a heavily hyped Q&A. He barely appeared at his own album release party. He spoke negatively of The Revolution and Purple Rain. He spoke negatively of WB. Quit Facebook. No PR release date. One live promotional performance for AOA. Tour, no tour. Broke up 3EG for the second time THIS YEAR, lol! I'm sure I am missing some known facts, but wait, which part of it was speculation again?? biggrin

Any other kind of video wouldn't suit this song. It's a short, punk style track.

What do you people want? An extravagant storyline with actors? For a song that's only 1m48 seconds long? Y'all want Prince to make the Thriller video for a 1m48 punk song? lol lol

A live performance clip with some psychedelic effects is EXACTLY what this song needed.

Not neccessarily true. I like all of Prince's genre exploration, however this album was not up to par. Marz is no a classic sounding punk track but it is an attempt at the punk sound which I can appreciate, but the lyrics could use some work.

.

I think most Prince fans can appreciate all of Prince's sounds, that's why we love his music because of his ability to bend genres. There are many fans that want him to sound like PR, but I'd say the vast majority just want good music & he delivered for the most part IMO with AOA & few gems on PLE. But to praise the PLE whole album as a materpiece is a stretch, but if that's how you see it, then who am I to argue your taste in music, but we can always agree to disagree smile

Took me 6 months to feel the Black Album. Was just boring loops and screaming, P rambling on, and the mix was horrible. But when I got it WOW. Will be in my top ten forever. Shit hot, a genius at work.

However, if you don't like it round here, MAYBE find anotherlove? Crying with frustration is not helping anyone.

Me personally... I'd love the footage from the recording of the song. Ala PlectrumElectrum. Same for AnotherLove.

Cheap doesn't have to mean uninspired. These videos just seem like bare minimum attempts.

Perhaps part of the deal with WB is Prince either taking a hugely reduced advance or perhaps foregoing it completely. The cheap videos serving as a message to WB. They actually use a swirl transition...

Do you prefer hiatus? That is equally bad to breakup given that they had a new album in stores and were just a few weeks off the SNL performance. Bands don't go on hiatus that soon after an album release unless there is a problem.

Still smells like speculation to me. Most bands don't release a bunch of (low quality) videos after a break up/hiatus either, so that doesn't really support that theory. Are you speculating break up/hiatus based on twitter/facebook shutdown? If so, also not a solid theory, only becaus the rest of 3rdeyegirl still have said sites still up. But to support your theory, in my opnion during the 'release party' during the quick interview with the 3rdeyegirl & the host they looked off, like they didn't support their own sound or something, I coudn't quite put my finger on it, but to me it seemed so AWKWARD! Maybe it was just all that horrible host, but the girls looked like deer in headlights & also afraid they might say the wrong thing.

.

Something is up, I'll give you that, just not sure what. It does sound as thought the WB deal went sour though, what that means is anyone's guess.

Or, it was the sign of him being his typically petulant self - something didn't go his way on the deal, so he took his purple ball & ran. The execs did their job - people were astounded at the amount of advertisements they were seeing at the time the albums were released. It was Prince who didn't step up to the plate.

What does PUNK music sound like?

This :

https://www.youtube.com/w...bDqXr6LbXo

It took producer Chris Thomas a great deal of work to make the Sex Pistols sound like they did.

I took the most popular example in punk, since our friends eclem5 and TASKAE could use a little musicology lessons.
You guys are so moving, trying to save from the trash this poor "Ronnie Talk 2 Russia" reboot.

Ronnie Talk 2 Russia is not great because it was composed in 1981, it's great because :

- The man screams his lungs out, like armaggedon means something.

- Repetitive lyrics, which is one of the major requisites for being qualified as "punk".

- Electro-Rockabilly is a style that only Prince has attempted and successfully realized.
- The machine gun effects are top notch.

- Great solo.

Marz does not suck because it was composed in 2015, it sucks because :

- Vocally, it's a decal from Plastic Bertrand's Ça Plane Pour Moi.

- No one cares about punk in 2015.

- Instead of a guitar solo, we get a dull bridge.

- The lyrics are childish, and carry no real politic message of any kind.

- "Everybody in the world wants to be a star, Few got what it takes to get that far" : further proof that Prince is still mentally stuck in the eighties.

No, Prince, in 2015, no sane person wants to be a star anymore and add more garbage to the system.
And if you're talking to youngsters addicted to reality shows or fake competitions like American Idol,
well, they're not listening to you, so what's the point?

Now Ronnie clocks at 1:58. Marz clocks at 1:48.

There is a lot more happening on Ronnie, and not because od these extra 10 seconds.
The only "punk" thing Marz can reclaim is a Ramones song timing, that's all.

Now, on haterz :

I think you are mistaken a great deal. Like The Velvet Underground made everyone who bought their first album

to pull up a rock band of their own, similarly Prince has brought a lot of kids to build a home studio (a drum machine and a 4-track tape recorder).

It's fair to say that most of the people who criticize here know a thing or two about music, and that they have eclectic music tastes.
So when we bash the guy, it's rightfully so.

Now I can understand why you need so badly to project yourself into Prince, and think that he's some kind of God
who is totally in charge and aware of what he's doing : Prince has become the definitive "what if" musician,

worse than Big Star, Love, or Karen Dalton and such.

I can't think of no one who spilled as much milk as he did.
And sadly he seems keen on following this path until the end.

It's sad because of outside of commercial issues, AOA would have deserve to get to the 2015 audience,

because it is an album of schizophrenia and paranoia disguised as pop songs.

There is some substance to it.

Marz has the same dull, vulgar, artificial taste of the Kraft Foods® chocolate bar.
Looks and tastes like shit.
