unless "this could be us" is released as an ep with Revelation/TheXsFace/ShutThisDown

and "marz" comes as an ep with some acoustic tracks like from the album premier vid,

what's the point in these videos? who are they for? i'd be interested if it meant there'd

be some more new stuff for us to pick up.

i know some people think we should be very happy with this, but why are they? lol we

already have these tracks, and these albums. what need do we have for videos that are

not really videos, just recycled performance clips and promo shots. in the old days you'd

either buy a single because a- it preceded the album and was the only way to get that

particular track or b- it came after the album but had mixes and non album tracks.

this is not a prince problem as such, since no one really releases decent singles anymore,

do they? but it sucks none the less smile

than again, he did release RnR Love Affair, Dance 4 Me and Breakfast EPs on itunes so

why not release these 'singles' as EP format and stick some tracks on them that are sure

to fall between the cracks of this and the next release anyway. only way to get the fans

to invest. because what else is there to invest in for us? we already have the music.

and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

Personally, I think Marz is a great track. And who the hell cares about music videos?? They are the primary reason for the downfall of popular music. Since the advent of the music video, it is more important to look good than to be good.

My best guess here is that lawyers have been consulted on all sides, and WB and Prince are positioning themselves, for when Prince inevitably tries to weasal out of his contract for the back catalog:

"You can't say I didn't do my part. I bought ads for "This Could Be Us", performed live on a national network television show, particiated in a live QandA on Facebook, Tweeted, Livestreamed a release party and provided you with multiple music videos. Release my next album."

"Oh yeah, you can't say I didn't do my part. I bought billboards in major media markets, featured you prominently on our website, bought you coverage in several major magazines and I held my nose and released those second rate video clips. Bitch give me Purple Rain."

It's just my opinion, but one thing seems consistent since Prince reupped with WB: He is doing the ABSOLUTE minimum every step along the way. He ain't happy with the deal. Who here actually thinks Prince read the contract with WB, before he signed it? I don't. I bet he assumed they would pay for shit they are not contractually obligated to and he's giving them shit over it. Meanwhile they are putting the squeeze on him to get out of the way and push the remasters project.

Oh yeah, Speilberger? What "decent production values" would you include? Enlighten us. I doubt you would have word one to say about it, but I could be wrong. Yep, hatin' on haterz today.

Yes, when he's made one in the last 15 years, they've been a disaster.

You probably think this upcoming all-female Ghostbusters movie is a brilliant idea too, don't you?

Never seen Ghostbusters except bits and pieces, wouldn't dream of following any news on a remake.
From Prince's previous statements on how videos are expensive and can turn out to be another big bill to pay for not much oomph, I'd say this video is more a statement on the state of the industry than an artistic statement. It is like: here is what I can give you without blowing my budget, given the shitty state of the industry right now. AKA why should I spend a million dollars on a video when I know artists like me don't get much AirPlay, no matter how hard we try? AKA TOO bad for you I won't spend a fortune, my band is pseudo garage and here is the garage video I made.

Is this the same Prince who's made a video for just about every song he ever released or recorded?

It's good that he doesn't believe in time, for (wasted) time can be a lot of money.

Any other kind of video wouldn't suit this song. It's a short, punk style track.

What do you people want? An extravagant storyline with actors? For a song that's only 1m48 seconds long? Y'all want Prince to make the Thriller video for a 1m48 punk song? lol lol

A live performance clip with some psychedelic effects is EXACTLY what this song needed.
