He's probably recording his own response/influenced type song as we speak. This is what he does right, when something is popular he does his own little twist on it. Although, what that means in this case I'm not sure. Maybe he should just walk into the vault, up to the 1983/4 shelf, close his eyes, spin around pluck something out.

Why is there so much negativity in here. This is a great pop song, in my opinion, and i'm sure others will have there's. But to call it weak, and slag it off so vehemently ? Yet everyone raved about the gold standard, which never found its groove for me. I have no idea what Prince will think about this, but from what i've seen of him in interviews these last few years I can't imagine he'll be anything other than positive about someone else's music.

So folks should just like the song because the general consensus is that it is a good song? The song is weak 2 my ears. It has nothing 2 do with being negative. FOOLS multiply when WISE Men & Women are silent.

When you alienate yourself from your fanbase, the fanbase will alienate themselves from you. Bruno Mars has interaction with his fanbase, he can put out a mediocre sounding song like this and it will go to 1#, whereas we have Prince put out a mediocre song (in which he has being doing for decades) it will flop...like his recent collection of mediocre tunes.

When Prince alienates his fans instead of them going away to better pastures, they become more fanatical in their obsession with everything Prince.. really weird how that happens.. Change it one more time..

It's definitely the best mainstream song I've heard in ages and I hope it does make Prince jealous. Maybe it'll inspire him to throwdown hard on his next album instead of releasing more sellout shit hop sounding bullshit like he did on his latest disgrace of an album. Now, that's what I'm talkin' bout right there. Everybody over here has been creaming in their pants because Prince made an album where most of the tracks would fit in on mainstream radio and might get him back in the mainstream spotlight but that's exactly what I don't want. What good is it for Prince to be back in the mainstream again if his music sounds like everything else on the radio these days? That's not correcting the problem that the mainstream has, that's contributing more to the problem and keeping the problem growing even more. . Shit hop and neo stool should have never taken mainstream R&B radio away from funk. Funk is the baddest genre ever and, sure, styles eventually change, but when they change, they're supposed to change for the better, not the worst. People fought too hard back in the 50s to get rhythmic music in the mainstream and it's damn ridiculous that rhythmless bullshit like shit hop and neo stool came along in the 90s and undid 30 years worth of change and took the rhythm back out of music again and then music never recovered from it since. . Anything that puts funk back in the mainstream, or even attempts to put funk back in the mainstream, I'm all for it. And I'm dead set against anyone who is actually funky who lowers their standards to shit hop and neo stool. I want a 100% complete style change in the mainstream, not the same bullshit that's been dominating since the 90s. Andy is a four letter word.

To each their own. For a couple of artists who aren't predominantly funk artists (since the genre has been all but dead for 20 years if not longer). I think it's a great little party track.

"The song was written by Ronson, Jeff Bhasker, Mars, Philip Lawrence, Devon Gallaspy and Nicholaus Williams. "
It takes a lot of work and people to pull of a mediocre track. Change it one more time..

Is it possible to make a "serious" funk video as opposed to something with an air of comedy about it? Isn't funk at least partly about having a laugh? Jeromes main function in The Time was to make people laugh.

Check out the "Is the a Prince outtake?" thread. This guy does a better job of creating and updating MPLS funk. And he plays all the instruments. Someone needs to ge this guy a production deal.

The sounds do not come from the controller that's close to the camera. He's using the controller to trigger the sounds from the Linn LM-1 emulation software that he himself created(!). He's also played the synth, guitar and bass parts himself (for that matter, he also made the Oberheim synth clone he uses on his stuff).

AOA is not shithop. You have not taken the time to even listen to the CD and everyone is living in a fantasy world if you think P is going to put a funk CD that is going to sale well. I like Uptown Funk but it is popular because Bruno Mars is hot right now. We all know P could do a whole CD of uptempo funk tunes but I would look for a major record lable to back him with that type of project.

What song are we listening to here? This is not in anyway Prince's sound, I hear more Roger & Zapp and Eighties Bar-Kays to be honest. A good effort yes but Mr. Nelson's not quaking in his custom boots. Jeux Sans Frontiers
