Art Official Age - the review Art Official Cage...could be a great song but it's got an air horn on it, totally ruins it. Clouds...could be a great song but it's got talking on it, totally ruins it. Breakdown...could be a great song but it's got lasers on it, totally ruins it. The Gold Standard...could be a great song but it doesn't sound like Black Album, totally ruins it. U Know...could be a great song but it's just talking and uses a sample, totally ruins it. Breakfast Can Wait...could be a great song but has duck voice, totally ruins it. This Could Be Us...could be a great song but it isn't about God, totally ruins it. What It Feels Like...could be a great song but I've only listened to it once, totally ruins it. Affirmation I & II...it's just talking, totally ruins it. Way Back Home...could be a great song but the drums sound modern, totally ruins it. Funk N Roll...could be a great song but it's not the version on Plectrum Electrum, totally ruins it. Affirmation III...again, just talking, totally ruins it.

robertgeorgeakabob could enjoy AOA if only he'd acccept it's not 1995 anymore, totally ruins it.

Fans like robertgeorgeakabob could like at least a few songs on AOA if only they didn't deep down view Prince as a museum piece and a holy relic of their moussed youth, totally ruints.

This review -- could make sense but there's a lot of empty chatter on it, totally ruins it.

Oh and btw: This album -- Prince satirizing himself in a way, but the org fans ruin it for me.

"Somewhere here on Earth" a jazzy chiiling falsetto "Masterpiece"! "The One U Wanna C" a pop classic, "Chelse Rodgers" a disco inferno, reminiscent of the late disco queen Sylvester and the raw funk of Nile Rodgers & Chic. The rock song "Guitar" was #39 on Rolling Stones list of Best Songs of 2007. Plus the album shipped over a million copies. It was uneven. But not bad 4 a album included 4 free in Uk's The Mail on Sunday.

Stop HATING & underestimating prince 's HARD work in the studio.!!

Naw sorry... Can't convince me Planet Earth is a good Prince album...

And it didn't ship over a million copies, didn't even make it to Gold in the U.S.

Are numbers all you really care about, is this what determines good music for you? Most of your posts seem to revolve around this idea that if it doesn't sell as much as you think it should then it's a failure regardless of the content. I listen to several artists under the 'fame/popular' radar that I consider better than ANYTHING on radio, yet you always reference NUMBERS. I don't get it. You either like music for what it is or you don't, I thought anyway.

I love the album so in what way am I parodying myself? I was very obviously parodying the people on here that dismiss the album for the most trivial reason...such as 'it's got an air horn on it'.
Very, very obviously. Lol

I think it's much better than anything he's done since he started dabbling in more conservative, mainstream-friendly pop albums again with Musicology. It's a hell of a lot more exciting than Musicology (his most forgettable pop album ever imo), less desperate-sounding than 3121, and less annoying and childish than either 2010 or Planet Earth.

All that having been said, I'd say it's a 2.5/5. lol

It just doesn't stick with me. A lot of it is forgettable R&B. The Gold Standard, like FUNK and $ before it, at least still proves Prince can craft a catchy upbeat song.

The world is a comedy for those who think and a tragedy for those who feel.

Personally, I really like AOA - a lot. But it's cool that some don't.

Great art often invites controversy - otherwise it can get boring.

I never said it was awful. It has a lot of good moments some exceptional stuff but mostly mediocre song writing .Is it better than a lot of stuff that's selling of course it is. It's Prince and as the New Girl episode stated hes magic. But it's not a killer album. That's the basic point here.

Feels disjointed and the only track that will last is This could be us.This constant protest that it's his best work in years is not understandable by me. If he had released this a year after a previous album it would have been met with a lot less fanfare.

Totally agree! AOA is fresh, crisp, funky, it feels personal at times, has a mainstream sound but also maintains that "prince" aura. I only skip one track on the entire album, and that's This is What It Feels Like. Other than that, I dig the whole album. Prince delivered a great album this time!

personally i'm still loving AOA. imo, it reflects a great range of emotion, and the amazing musicianship and songwriting don't hurt neither. great album, imo

The reason I started this thread is simply because AoA s tracks were being played on an Internet site next to tracks from albums of the past and I thought to myself this revelry for this album is not on point.Tracks like U know This is what it feels like Breakfast can wait and Time are weak and not on par with even stuff from 3121. So what are the tracks you can't wait to rush home and disrupt your neighbours with the blasting of your stereo. The Gold standard Clouds Funk and roll hardly. These are not songs you'd leave work early cause you couldn't wait to get lost in their wonder. Even Artificial cage sounds less and less appealing every times its played. Way back home might be heartwarming for its tenderness but vocally isn't even equal to Future soul song. As I said before the songs don't obsess your mind like true classic Prince.

lol Says you!

Respectfully, I disagree with your assertions as somehow being fact because you feel that way. I sincerely believe in the opposite of most everything you just wrote.

To each his/her own, methinks. Fa real. smile

Stop telling that damn lie up in here. It's not even decent. lol With the exception of "The Gold Standard", it's one of his worst albums ever.

I acually love AOA . Ive been a follower since 1979. The thing is you cant really compare any of P's albums to each other. They all have their own time, space and relevance. AOA acually has his finger on the pulse of current events of the day. I can really feel where P is coming from with this album choice

This thread show, as most of the threads on this site - beauty is in the ear of the listener. I personally think this is an excellent album and don't feel the need to skip any track, which I haven't done since "The Gold Experience". And I'm not a modern R&B fan. Mmmm.

.

Sometimes I think Prince fans can be a bit, sorry, very hard to please.
