We are obviously entitled to our opinion. I am well versed in Prince's music from his first album. AOA in my opinion is a very well thought out cohesive album that plays well into my ears. The songs are well crafted and very unique. The lyrics are on point. But what I like most is that for the first time in the last few years Prince sounds very happy and confident. It comes out in the music for me. And he's finally got back into the mindset of that he's got nothting to prove to anyone but himself. To me that is the point of way back home. He was a little unfocused there for a while but with AOA brings the best of all worlds for me. It's got classic Prince from the 80's with a sign of the times feel to it with a very modern touch to it's sound and production. I love this album and it's on heavy rotation with me. I am very sorry it doesn't do it for you.

Of course many opinions on albums depend on the fans struggles at the time that it is released thats why albums like Lovesexy and Rainbow children have such an extreme love hate relationship. But stop drinking the Koolaid people AoA is not a terrific album. It's decent at best. No classic tracks. Feels disjointed and the only track that will last is This could be us.This constant protest that it's his best work in years is not understandable by me. If he had released this a year after a previous album it would have been met with a lot less fanfare.

I am really tired of these critics. I know that everyone here is not a musician. It's one thing to be constructive, it's another to critize. Most people who have something to say about the music don't know an Amn7 from their elbow. They have no idea of what it takes to write, record, and release your work to the world.

Most people here don't understand that a four minute song could have taken anywhere from six hours to six days. Because when you write and record, you tweak, you change things. Sometimes you put it to the side and do other things and then return with fresh ears and possibly new ideas about making the song in their opinion better.

Why can't people just say: I don't like the songs because the bassline is too low in the mix or whatever. Just stating that something is not good or not is simply rediculoius. How about I don't think you post is a great it's meh, so eveyone agree with me because I know what a great post is. I'm not knocking anyone for having an opinion, but at least don't act like a record executive. Making music is work. Now when you release you CD, I will gladly listen to it. Because unlike you, I am a musican and I deal with the business side of music everyday. I repeat, I am not saying that one can't speak their mind, it's just that soemtimes it get frustrating reading one critism after another without acknowledging that even if a CD sucks, that it's something that invovles a lot of work, especially when you do most of it alone.

IF LOVE WAS A DRUG WOULD YOU OVERDOSE?

seriously?

as big a fan as i feel i am, there isn't a single song on any album from any era (from any musician), ever, that i've 'obsessed' over so hard that i needed to leave work early so that i could get lost in it's wonder...

That's too bad, you're missing on a lot of fun.

I've always been obsessed with music. Even when I'm focusing on a complex task, there's a tune or score I'm thinking about in the back of my mind. When I'm not thinking about music, I'm listening to it, always on loudspeakers as it's unsafe for me to listen to music on the go. Even as I'm typing these words, Chapter and Verse is the tune on my mind for some reason.

I can psychoanalyze myself just by thinking about the music that popped up in my mind as I was walking, typing, doing a presentation or talking to my boss. All sorts of composers and songwriters come up -- I don't know what's the average number of individual pieces of music people think about dayly but in my case dozens if not hundreds. Lots of bits ajnd pieces of different songs and scores, everyone from Bach to Beck, showtunes, symphonies and remixes, a constant stream of musical semi-consciousness that has sustained me through many boring meetings.

I happily call it an obsession because music at its best is supposed to be a passionate affair. I remember taking a day off years ago to be able to download something just issued but I have never been one of those people that line up and have only attended two or three Prince concerts. AOA is the firust album on which I don't skip anything since Lovesexy.

Good song...

Boring album.

"Somewhere here on Earth" a jazzy chiiling falsetto "Masterpiece"! "The One U Wanna C" a pop classic, "Chelse Rodgers" a disco inferno, reminiscent of the late disco queen Sylvester and the raw funk of Nile Rodgers & Chic. The rock song "Guitar" was #39 on Rolling Stones list of Best Songs of 2007. Plus the album shipped over a million copies. It was uneven. But not bad 4 a album included 4 free in Uk's The Mail on Sunday.

Stop HATING & underestimating prince 's HARD work in the studio.!!

I'm with u guys. I really love what 3rd eye girl brings to the table.

I'm not a huge fan of the album either. It's not bad, but I don't see myself playing it over and over like I used to with his older stuff. But to me, ever since probably the gold experience, it's hasn't been about the album in why I am still a fan. For me, it's been all about the live shows. When I see him play on the super bowl, arsenio hall, any of the numerous talk shows, the yahoo screen thing, etc., it always reminds me why I am a fan. For me lately, the albums just lay down a nice groundwork for him to strut his stuff on the stage. For me, there just isn't a better live performer out there than him, and I always find myself scrambling to catch him on whatever shows he plans on doing next.

The Mail on Sunday shipped close to 3 million copies of "Planet Earth"! prince earned and upfront $500,000 over and above the royalties for each CD.

298,000 in the U.S is not bad 4 an independent release. prince owning the Masters of it. Means he cleaned up in the UK & U.S. Don't hate! Congratulate.

I think AOA is just ok. A couple of songs I really like. Plectrumelectrum has more enjoyable tracks for me. But, hey I LOVED 3121 and wasn't a big fan of TGE so I guess everyone's tastes are vastly different. Fortunately Prince has so many different styles that everyone's individual tastes are catered for somewhere along the line.

Art Official Age - the review

Art Official Cage...could be a great song but it's got an air horn on it, totally ruins it.
Clouds...could be a great song but it's got talking on it, totally ruins it.
Breakdown...could be a great song but it's got lasers on it, totally ruins it.
The Gold Standard...could be a great song but it doesn't sound like Black Album, totally ruins it.
U Know...could be a great song but it's just talking and uses a sample, totally ruins it.
Breakfast Can Wait...could be a great song but has duck voice, totally ruins it.
This Could Be Us...could be a great song but it isn't about God, totally ruins it.
What It Feels Like...could be a great song but I've only listened to it once, totally ruins it.
Affirmation I & II...it's just talking, totally ruins it.
Way Back Home...could be a great song but the drums sound modern, totally ruins it.
Funk N Roll...could be a great song but it's not the version on Plectrum Electrum, totally ruins it.
Affirmation III...again, just talking, totally ruins it.
don't play me...i'm over 30 and i DO smoke weed....
